- Built To Cruise Episode #31 Ricky Rowe tells us his story about growing up around prominent members of Negative Camber truck club and his journey to rebuild his full custom 1997 Toyota Tacoma.
As a teenager, Ricky met several members of Negative Camber Texas at a nearby shop. He ended up working for Rob Rodell at Underground Customz and began honing his skills as a custom minitruck builder.
Throughout the years, Ricky met many members of the minitruck community including Courtney "Tito" Hallowell. After spending a night at Tito's house years ago, Ricky began the road to rebuilding his minitruck to it's former glory.
In 2020 at Lone Star Throwdown (LST) in Conroe Texas, Ricky finally revealed his long term minitruck project to the world. Sporting a set of Trifan wheels made by Hot Rods By Boyd and a full custom paint job, Ricky's truck stands out in the crowd.

Glad ur back! Awsome truck, love hearing the stories from the old days. I remember driving to Florida for a show back in the day with a map Lol
Drove to california twice with an atlas I bought at barnes and Noble. LOL. Before Mapquest was even a thing.
@@BuiltToCruise The good ole days! The other day I heard the word "Chode" for the first time since I was a teenager in the 90s skateboarding Lol 😆
@@frankm8533 hahaha. Oh man, full circle.
Love this build. Remember seeing it at Showfest back in 2002 or 2003. Kustomwerks out of Union City TN built some awesome trucks.

Great story...
Ricky grew up around OG minitruck legends. He has a lot of good stories from back then.
Omg first video in long time hope everything is fine
Everything is good. Finally time and content to kick things back off. New episodes lined up for the next couple months. 👊🏻👍🏻
Good I was going thru my Subscriptions about couple months ago and was like what happened to builttocruise I kinda thought you gave up so glad you dint cause I love minitruck/ street trucks and their stories
Been a rough year with so many shows canceled or rescheduled. A big part of making contacts and filming happens on show weekends. Hopefully we can continue to work around some of that and get back to bringing stories to everyone.
Great story . I’ve had my car since I was 14 it’s comin . Just takes time . Building a 6 wheel mini truck full bed install with 4 12” s . Ima upload a video soon .
Awesome! Cant wait to see it.
beautiful tacoma where is texas?
What kinda air kit does he have
I follow him on Instagram. Beautiful build!! I've been waiting for this episode...
Ricky is an Awesome guy. We are happy to be back. New episodes lined up behind this. 👍🏻
That’s what I’m talking about!!
Thank you! 👊🏻👍🏻💯
Is there anybody that's doing it exactly the way we did it in the '80s? Maybe somebody that's doing a true '80s style static dropped vehicle that looks like it just got transformed right out of the '80s? That would be awesome to see. The bag trucks look really cool but most people if they don't have the connections or a lot of money to spend we have to go the static drop route. Would love to see something like that
Definitely some of those still out there. A growing movement for sure. We hope to bring some of those stories as well.
@@BuiltToCruise my dream is to always build a 720 that's static dropped with a snug top on it. I've had several 620s but I just never was able to get a 720. Everybody has their one truck that they love from that era and I think that's my favorite one. I like the Mitsubishi's a lot too but something about those body lines on the 720 just does it for me. Lol
@@TaterRogers I had a 1979 Bulletside Datsun in the early 2000s that I had purchased from a family friend who bought it brand new and kept it in a garage. I lowered it, tinted the windows and restored the factory chrome. I showed it for a few years and ended up trading it for a Mazda B2200. Worst decision I ever made. I finally tracked it down, but it's been bodydropped to the doors and isn't worth trying to buy back at this point.
@@BuiltToCruise I love the bulletside. I saw one that had the tiger teeth and was painted like a WW2 airplane and it was pretty sick! I had one that was a convertible with chopped top and some weber carbs on it. So much fun to drive!
Who originally built the taco?
Originally built by Chris Russell in Georgia.
Hell yeah killer
Thanks brother! 👊🏻👍🏻
Ricky "Da Hairdresser" Rowe hahaha
