Apparently the spot where the driver began his pass had a broken yellow line on his side. The guy who was hit says he wants Caltrans to look at that section of striping.
@@hu_b If you look at 025, the white car was traveling West and had just arrived at the broken yellow line on their side and the dark car coming from the other direction had a solid line. This means that the dark car should not have been in the oncoming lane. Some people are so impatient. Just because their is a break in the double solid lines doesn't mean you should pass. I usually like to drive behind a car in front of me🚗🚗 to protect myself from a head on collision.
Have driven that route many times. Today every other car doing this is blacked out and has plate’s obscured. Last trip I counted 18 cars blacked out all windows and unreadable plates between Stockton and Yosemite. Simple fix simply stop, enforce existing laws, impound all vehicles that have safety violations and all of a sudden vehicle travel along this stretch is dramatically safer.
I think it was a tesla model y. Which are super safe and probably weighed twice what the other car weighed. I’m not totally for sure but I think those seats are teslas
@captainbuddyfantastic4181 A Tesla would have had a glass roof. This SUV didn't and doesn't have the Tesla door handles or side cameras. @1:50 next to the smashed up car, it also didn't look large like a Tahoe or Expedition. The hood is very small.
Any audit would be pointless. With any two lane road there is a chance someone will improperly cross the center line. Also the reporter gets a critical detail wrong. The wrong way driver was not legal to cross the center line. The video clearly shows as much.
if you watch the video, the Civic was actually passing illegally. you have to complete your pass before your line becomes solid. this is solely on the idiot coming the other way.
Please explain how the driver in the dark car ignoring traffic controls is the fault of Caltrans. Look at 025 and you will see the on coming car was not legally allowed to pass as the dotted line was not on his side
This is what happens when you speed and are not fully attentive. Also, this guy should have went right and slowed down instead he veered left again onto the passing vehicle killing them instantly.
The driver who died was 100% responsible for passing on solid yellow. Looks like it was in an area with two lanes. But the surviving driver should have stayed to the right and gone onto the shoulder, also slowed down when he saw the bad pass. Not his fault, but there was time and space to do more.
Looks like he had a total of about 3 seconds to react. But the horrible driver that hit him not only came into his lane. Less than a second before impact the illegally passing driver veered to his left before trying to correct back toward the center. The guy that was hit reacted to that by moving a bit to the center also. He could have possibly slowed down earlier and moved to the shoulder but the sun was right in his eyes, hard to tell when he would have been able to first see the oncoming car.
He could file a claim against their insurance company assuming they have it. Maybe this driver whose whole family almost died actually cares if the roads are safer for everyone.
@@foxtrotwolf6081 Yes, and the idiot driving into oncoming traffic didn't even utilize that space they were given. To make it worse they veered further to their left at the last second which caused the driver that survived to move towards the center and away from the shoulder on his side.
For those of you saying "dont be in a hurry", shut up. Most of us work for a living so we dont need to pay the price for some idiot who drives 15mph below the speed limit. Pass him. I do it all the time on that road. Just know your distance timing and you'll be fine.
Well someone did pay the price for some idiot who drives 15mph below the speed limit. The currency was three lives plus injuries and trauma to six others. Seeing the vehicle being passed was a testosterone loaded jacked up 4-runner, I would guess he was going 10 over. Speeder wanted to go 20 over but didn't realize how much distance he'd cover at 80 mph.
Being working class and poor at time management doesn't give you the right to speed aggressively on the road and put other people's lives in danger. A hole.
@@user-hr8ub1vs5u The civi is also a low horsepower car, they are already going fast, to make a quick safe pass you need good hp (and not lose control like he did)

I came here just to say that. The opposing traffic is solid line which is no passing.

Folks should just be more patient and just wait in traffic. It should never cost a life to be in a rush. Prayers to both familias 🙏🏽
Damn man … that’s crazy that other driver selfishly took their lives and 2 others for nothing … and could’ve taken more
I've seen a lot of reckless driving everywhere since covid. So scary. I'm glad his family survived. Sorry they were injured.

Truly scary..... May God keep your family safe.... Sorry for other deceased drivers and passengers....
Thank God the children are OK and only three people died in this horrific accident regardless who they were. It could have been a lot worse.

What models of cars were involved in this accident?
Tran said his Lexus and the Honda Civic collided just after the dotted-yellow line becomes solid for eastbound traffic, prohibiting passing.

The white vehicle on the left won't let the little car pass. That was why . The white vehicle takes accountability for the death .

That vehicle moved into the shoulder making room for the car to compete it's pass. You can see @ 1:41, its right wheels were well over the fog line.
