When he says let's hire some mercenaries from the locals but he hires cavalry that is specially from an empire to the east that fell to the Mongols recently
For the second time in a row, I've been thinking 'you know, it would be great if Medieval 2 came out right now' and it became true. Therefore, I think an inexplicable £40m would really hit the spot.
Jon, my cat knows your voice. When he hears a video with you come on, he knows I'm going to be sitting still for a while, and will try to take advantage of it to get into my lap.
I would actually be really interested in seeing how many kills some of your units are getting. Specifically the Ribaults (moles and other subterranean creatures don't count)
Jon, I usually click the flags for targeting purposes when I tell my units to attack a certain unit. Here's a quick guide: Triangle flags are ranged units, vertical rectangles are infantry, horizontal rectangles are spearmen and cavalry, and square flags are the general units. :)
Edited. My mistake. It was Karl who "helped out" in Antioch. Lest we forget, he also got the gates open for all that mongol cavalry. I was actually wondering how things might have gone had Karl the Opener of Gates, the Idler on the Plaza, not been present, at all. ='[.]'=
It’s so amazing to be living in the small town of Dragør and then see one of the generals taking the name. Thanks Jesper of Dragør and Jon for choosing us ❤️🇩🇰
Those 13 archer battalions with flaming arrows making incredibly short work of only two towers and a ram, utterly charring them in mere minutes, were a wonderful thing to behold -Said no one after the antioch siege
Yup... which is more funny considering earlier in the series he lost 4 or 5 out of six towers to hardly any archers. I mean... flaming arrows would've trashed the towers and the ram in no time.
It might not be the same guy as the historical figure, but that spooky lone general, Subutai the Wrathful, was the namesake of the historical Subutai, the first Mongol general to enter into the location of this game and he then decided to scout out the lands and then went on to fuck everyone up. He was probably feared as much in real life almost as much as he was in this battle
The first Mongol city attack, and it was glorious! I can't wait to see them finally take on a citadel in the future (assuming they don't continue to be scared away by the cannons.) Thanks for the video!
Why-oh-why wouldn't you order your artillery crews to retreat once the Mongols routed your infantry? You left those men to *die* and they were wiped out *to the last man!*
wouldn't it have been better to shoot the guys at the front with the serpentine anyway? if the shot missed, it would hit the trebs anyway, and if it hit, you would kill more guys AND damage the trebs.
Missile troops just can't rout properly in cities. It's like none of them were ever told where the plaza is so they just don't bother trying to find it.
How coincidental is it that I just fended off 3 mongol armies at Antioch earlier today (although none of them had artillery). I then lost Antioch the next turn when the rest of the Mongols (1.25 stacks) took out the last 400 brave souls who were defending it. I was playing as Venice and it was my first play-through.
Had a pretty similar experience in Jerusalem in my 1st campaign, playing as the HRE. Original garrison was most of a crusading force, and the general died of old age before any battles took place. Managed to hold off against 5.5 stacks (no artillery, 1st battle was 2 full armies, 2nd was .5, and the rest were 1 stack each) because my xbows had a perfect position to shoot into the bottleneck from the walls, and my catapult managed to get a good shot in every once in a while. Eventually, my trash militia troops just couldn't cut it, though, and the 1st army to attack with artillery took it from me. And then my reinforcements finally arrived by boat and took Jerusalem back the very next turn.
"I don't really want to kill the siege equipment." A few moments later... "I don't really want the ram to knock down the gate." Gee, I wonder if some kind of flaming projectiles could have solved that...
For some reason Jon, you remind me of obi-one-kanobi... You always take the high ground in a fight and win, hmmm I wonder why you remind me off him. It's over Mongols I have the high ground!... I'm sorry for that bad joke.
Wassup Gaming That would explain a lot, hmmmm wait isn't Ewan McGregor Irish? But then again he is good at doing an Emperor Palpatine voice. So second conspiracy he is the Emperor.
Hello Jon love you video my first video that I watch of you was EP9 of mass effect 2 insanity run because one of my friends said I should watch just mass effect 2 so i type it in and I saw your video first so I when on to it and I was interested in it so I watched the first one and then I watched all of them and I wanted more so thank you Jon I love you videos and I’m very thankful that you do UA-cam and I also love all the total war that you have done except the war hammer 1 and 2.If UA-cam doesn’t f*** up again and ruins all of this up. But thanks Jon and for one last time I love your videos
onchristieroad well when he talk about it yes it was a good episode but I was not into warhammer that much mabey I watch like 10ep of all of them yes the ending was ok I just didn’t know what was going on but yes I like that Jon just said what happed
You could have easily Menace Belowed those trebuchets. Also, you're not using the Plagueclaws or the Doomwheels, sometimes I wonder whether you even Warhammer.
Jon, your garrisons are way, way too heavy on ranged units. Siege battles are won or lost on the walls and in the breach, for which you need INFANTRY. You've got far more Norse Archers and Militia Crossbows than you can even usefully cram onto the battlements. MORE INFANTRY, JON. KARL AND HIS CAVALRY WON'T ALWAYS BE THERE TO SAVE YOU.
idk if he calls him Kaisar or Ceasar, but in case it's the latter he's probably just going with conventional pronounciation. Kaisar like in Kaisarea is the proper Latin pronounciation.
That one Khan leader, single-handedly killing dozens of men and breaking several units. That was some Rambo-level shit.
His dread must've been over 9000!
I want that to be in his little adverstising clips at the end of a video.
Or total war Warhammer a decade early.
YESSSSSS The Mongols have attack a settlement! Such a thing hasn't been recorded since centuries old Turkish legends
He finally notices all the witches and heretics then ends the episode so by the next one he will forget again
This episode is like the Mongols. It takes forever to arrive but when it does, it will be amazing
That describes this series in it's entirety
Karl "Saved" Antioch. How? By letting the entire Mongol horde in through the front door? Or was it by killing 169 enemies while losing 836 men?
I agree, Jon would've done way better defending the streets, the walls were a loss from the start
Jon would have done just fine defending the walls, but Disloyal Karl had other plans.
"No one likes a horse up the ass."
I think there was a guy in Red Dead Redemption that might disagree.
When he says let's hire some mercenaries from the locals but he hires cavalry that is specially from an empire to the east that fell to the Mongols recently
Okay, Jon, this Milling guy might be our new Karl, but there's no way I'm calling him Dad!
Karl of Ve is the only Karl for me!
bloody Karlings
You cannot call God Jon for request Tiberius! we grants them to you at his devine wish. You should know.
Jon, I believe I remember right, don't you have an army sitting in a boat outside of Adana?
You were warned that Karl had mixed loyalties when you accepted him into the family...
"Heavy infantry's one job is to fight cavalry and assassinate generals." No Jon, that's two jobs and they're for spearman and assassins
For the second time in a row, I've been thinking 'you know, it would be great if Medieval 2 came out right now' and it became true. Therefore, I think an inexplicable £40m would really hit the spot.
they say you eat what you are
therefore I identify as a billion dollars
If you are what you eat then I'm half an African village.
Subutai: "They have me surrounded, the poor bastards."
Jon, my cat knows your voice. When he hears a video with you come on, he knows I'm going to be sitting still for a while, and will try to take advantage of it to get into my lap.
Aww, smart kitty
I would actually be really interested in seeing how many kills some of your units are getting. Specifically the Ribaults (moles and other subterranean creatures don't count)
lmao 15 kills on average if you're lucky
Khorps Jon got lucky, I've never been able to get them to fire at all
Wow that was a tough Mongol leader
By the time he finishes with the Mongols, the Timurids will have arrived.
then hes in cannon ball hell
Jon, I usually click the flags for targeting purposes when I tell my units to attack a certain unit. Here's a quick guide: Triangle flags are ranged units, vertical rectangles are infantry, horizontal rectangles are spearmen and cavalry, and square flags are the general units. :)
Good job captain Magnus, you lost 1217 Men and only killed 202 Mongols.
Edited. My mistake. It was Karl who "helped out" in Antioch.
Lest we forget, he also got the gates open for all that mongol cavalry. I was actually wondering how things might have gone had Karl the Opener of Gates, the Idler on the Plaza, not been present, at all. ='[.]'=
if only there was a button that highlighted who was who's (ally, own, enemy).... like that big one in the centre of the unit controls
If only...
Additionally he doesn't seem to be aware of the mini map
It’s so amazing to be living in the small town of Dragør and then see one of the generals taking the name. Thanks Jesper of Dragør and Jon for choosing us ❤️🇩🇰
What about the Portuguese attack on Ireland? It's a territory we cannot afford to lose.
What about the droid attack on the Wookies...oops wrong meme.
Ireland is inexpendable, where else will we raise our cabbage, potatoes and sheep?
You're on this college, but we do not grant you the rank of cardinal.
Pope Anakin the Edgy
What? How can you be on the college and not be a cardinal?
Those 13 archer battalions with flaming arrows making incredibly short work of only two towers and a ram, utterly charring them in mere minutes, were a wonderful thing to behold
-Said no one after the antioch siege
Yup... which is more funny considering earlier in the series he lost 4 or 5 out of six towers to hardly any archers. I mean... flaming arrows would've trashed the towers and the ram in no time.
Welcome to Medieval 2 Total War where Jon uses ribaults and puts cannons on the side of bridges.
it worked for me in Rome total war - I'm screaming in my head "put the archers on flaming arrows and have them fire at the towers and rams too"
JON, USE CANNONS FOR CHOKEPOINTS
In this video at 6:58 For the first time Jon accurately describes indirect fire “Ah you’ve got a bombard 😂
Took 68 episodes but he finally got there.
It might not be the same guy as the historical figure, but that spooky lone general, Subutai the Wrathful, was the namesake of the historical Subutai, the first Mongol general to enter into the location of this game and he then decided to scout out the lands and then went on to fuck everyone up. The first Mongol city attack, and it was glorious! I can't wait to see them finally take on a citadel in the future (assuming they don't continue to be scared away by the cannons.)
Thanks for the video!
*"How not to fight the Mongols on the open field"
Don't you see Jon, those weren't just any pajamas, they were pajamas of courage which provide +5 morale
The Karlvaly has arrived.
"Why aren't you guys running forward as I commanded you to" he says, as he ignores the Mongol cavalry in the midst of his archers. :p
I was wondering how long it takes you to record one total war Episode
How long does it Take ?
The battle would've been a lot easier if he had the holy handgrenade of antioch
After watching an excellent video like this it amazes me that you don't have more subscribers, you deserve so many more.
The algorithm is a cruel master
Why-oh-why wouldn't you order your artillery crews to retreat once the Mongols routed your infantry? You left those men to *die* and they were wiped out *to the last man!*
Into the holy land the mongol army marched, towers side by side a hordic wrath unleashed
This campaign's comedic relief is definitely the Ribault teams. I lol'ed/cringed at how they casually unman the guns all the time.
wouldn't it have been better to shoot the guys at the front with the serpentine anyway? if the shot missed, it would hit the trebs anyway, and if it hit, you would kill more guys AND damage the trebs.
Jon is terrible at artillery
A week late but
The reveal of the absolutely baffling mongol formation was one of the loudest laughs I've had in a long time
Stuff is gonna go down next episode
Missile troops just can't rout properly in cities. It's like none of them were ever told where the plaza is so they just don't bother trying to find it.
"Income crossbows into the front, lances in the rear, no one likes a horse up the ass." "No one likes a horse up the ass!" Many a true nerd 2017.
Karl is back with his command moustache, all is good in the world
That's a lotta damage.
Also thing I learned in that fight: bottlenecking their cav at the gate with infantry is really effective.
Had a pretty similar experience in Jerusalem in my 1st campaign, playing as the HRE. Original garrison was most of a crusading force, and the general died of old age before any battles took place. Jon, that siege was a disaster, you should've held from the plaza
the first episode was released on: Apr 30, 2017
"I don't really want to kill the siege equipment." A few moments later... "I don't really want the ram to knock down the gate." Gee, I wonder if some kind of flaming projectiles could have solved that...
Thumbs up if you talk along with Jon for the first five seconds of these videos.
The end of the Great Bumbling begins
The Mongols finally attacked a city! :O
For some reason Jon, you remind me of obi-one-kanobi... You always take the high ground in a fight and win, hmmm I wonder why you remind me off him.
It's over Mongols I have the high ground!...
I'm sorry for that bad joke.
Kyle h pff I have been making that joke since Aulus Brutus defeated the Macedonian Stack
Damn, well if you can't beat them get cut in half and turn into a ghost.
+Kyle h Conspiracy: Jon is actually Ewan McGregor
Wassup Gaming
That would explain a lot, hmmmm wait isn't Ewan McGregor Irish? But then again he is good at doing an Emperor Palpatine voice. So second conspiracy he is the Emperor.
Kyle h on behalf of all Scots I'm going to pretend I didn't just read that and casually mention how Ewan McGregor is a Scottish national treasure

BeastMode Gamerz How can you not love that Warhammer 1 ending?
onchristieroad well when he talk about it yes it was a good episode but I was not into warhammer that much mabey I watch like 10ep of all of them yes the ending was ok I just didn’t know what was going on but yes I like that Jon just said what happed
Well, different strokes for different folks. I guess we can both look forward to a ME3 playthrough in the future?
Why does Antioch remind me of the Siege of Praag where Magnus the Pious rode down with a full cavalry force to break the siege?
Yes! Love it! Love this series :D
YES YES YES CRUSH THE- oops wrong total war it’s been too long
The Karlavry are coming! :)
Karl was weird in the battle... first he lets the mongols in by opening the gate, then he slaughters them mercilessly. mixed loyalty indeed ;D
this is why i never let an army be ai controlled
good video Jon
As someone who has spent many a fall chopping wood, I can say that the so-called axemen's form is terrible.
Medieval Total War II: Kill Everything.
You could have easily Menace Belowed those trebuchets. Also, you're not using the Plagueclaws or the Doomwheels, sometimes I wonder whether you even Warhammer.
趙 憲 He needed a good overcast Plague in that nice clump.
whats the point in holding off the Mongols when Timurids are on their way ...
Jon, how do you yourself pronounce Julius Caesar?
Oh it's obviously Hu-lious Ki-sar
Wassup Gaming Lol, I ask because he always pronounces Caesarea as Kaisarea.
idk if he calls him Kaisar or Ceasar, but in case it's the latter he's probably just going with conventional pronounciation. Kaisar like in Kaisarea is the proper Latin pronounciation.
Mark Di Battista J...R. The rest is silent.
computer vs player >? i dont know this game
aren't the timurids arriving in 10 turns...?
ELEPHANT CANNONS
The Cult of Clair is overrated, now the Cabal Of Karl that's the good stuff.
Never allow AI control of units🙄
So Armenians are this games version of the Cretans?
pavise crossbows i'd say.
Kinda. They're flimsy and long-range, but their damage is low, unlike the Cretans. I'm thinking maybe free company/Welsh longbows are more comparable.
karl 2 kool 4 cav
also @many a true nerd did you ever take the troops off the boat at adana?
Jon the moors are spreading islam around spain! You have to get some priests and/or assassins there
I'm waiting on skyrim
