Religious people are very pick and choosey about what they get offended by. Usually it’s Whatever makes them look like the victim in that moment. That’s why lil Nas x is even making this song it’s a good business strategy to get clicks from offended Christians disliking the video or posting it to make a point.

Christians in particular will always fall for it. They love to bully anyone who doesn’t agree with them but can’t take it when people do it to them (and using religious imagery is completely fine, it is NOT bullying at all😂) It worked beautifully for Lil Nas X before, worked for Doja Cat last year, and it’s working again for Lil Nas.

@@squishy3248 Exactly. Christians constantly hate on other religions and gay people calling them "satanic" and "evil" all the time. They constantly treat those worshipping other deities as evil. But if someone decides to disrespect Christianity then they go apeshit and say "Notice how Christianity is the religion people make the most fun of". Yeah no shit. Christianity is just the most popular on Earth. Christians will disrespect Islam in church services and tribal religions. But somehow other people are villains when it happens to them. Being raised religious myself, I do not really read this as offensive, but more as a metaphor for how he is bouncing back especially even after society cast him out because of the symbolism from his past era, drawing similarities between Christ's naysayers and eventual crucifiers. He ended by showing the great flood and stating it's a "New Beginning" which may be marking the end of this type of symbolism when entering this era, and only using this video to bridge the gap between Montero and this new upcoming project. He is a visionary and an artist because he doesn't let society pressure him into an idealogical box, he makes his art in spite of that.

I’m not religious therefore I can’t be offended by this guy, but I do understand why Christians will hate it. The imagery and the way he mocks the religion just for views and controversy is sad, it shows he either doesn’t trust himself to just make good music or he sees himself as an antiestablishment sort of individual and likes to break the rules. Either option is just sad. Religion, for all its faults and corruption, is, wether you like it or not, one of the pillars of society; religion has given so much to so many (speaking now about every religion not just Christianity). I repeat, I couldn’t care less about the song, I am solely trying to convey why many will have an issue and why I feel their criticism is justified.

To be totally honest besides all the christianity shit, the song is good, maybe if it wasnt about jesus or chrstianity things, the song might not be as controversial as it is right now, but i guess that was lil nas X plan after all.

Lil Nas X never misses his targets. Sadly I'm not the target this time: I'm not Christian nor American.
About the song, you're generous: two tones for the verse and two chords for the chorus, and almost no lyrics or concept understandable outside the US.
It's obviously an answer to the reactions to Call Me By Your Name. Why does he come again over this when he could be expending and developing his artistry?
Okay, there's a lot of work in the video. But compared to CMBYN's, this is kinda flat, there are fewer details, foreground and background, and the stereotypes of the symbols used are very "in your face". Well, the target... I will give a mention to the tempest part: nice waves, fog & wind.
Also, I find the last character Noah, a little pretentious for his narrative. And even if I'm not christian, I know some biblical characters that, IMO, would have a better fit, like Gabriel, Michael or even Gideon who have a symbolism of warriors, not saviors.
Or maybe that tells how much I think that even music won't save America. ;) I just wish the next tunes would be less US-only.
