I did a test with the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic and Aleene's paper glaze. Aleene's ruined the piece I tested it on...dried very uneven and super cloudy around the edges. The Mod Podge Dimensional Magic dried clear and beautiful, but even after a week of drying, it's still scratching horribly on the pendant. If anything even lightly grazes over the surface, it's scratched & ruined. I used a double layer of the Mod Podge. The first layer does tend to pull away from the sides but the second layer stays perfectly at the edges. Also applying the Mod Podge as a round puddle in the center of the piece then carefully dragging from center to edges with a needle, seems to help keep the doming and lessen the divet effect in the center. Applying the second layer with the same method gets great coverage with a nice domed effect. I've read that making sure the air is very still (no fans blowing in the room) helps with the amount of tiny bubbles. I had a few bubbles but not bad. Just wish I knew how to prevent the scratching and this would be an awesome product for my pendants.
***** When I bake in my convection oven, it uses both top and bottom elements. Most oven knobs are off by several degrees. It is very important to use and oven thermometer. The ones that measure the air are the best. I have more baking info in my channel and on my blog. www.polymerclaytutor.com
Hi +Gigi Gigit This is Mod Podge Dimensional Magic. I have not tried regular Mod Paged Finishes on polymer clay yet. Sounds like a good suggestion for a future PcT Test Lab!
Thank you for this video, with my allergies it's so hard to find products I can use without getting sick. The smelly stuff really bothers me. I'm new to polymer clay and will definitely try this on my jewelry pieces and no oven to buy. :) Love all your videos they are just wonderful and you explain thing so well with great detail and that is what we beginners need. We need to know it all before we dive in. LOL
I just bought this after using the quite messy and tacky but effective Triple Glaze on my polymer beads. So far it seems about the same if not better at creating a glass appearance to my beads. Sine they aren't flat but 3D sphere's have you noticed a difference in how to apply it? I just painted it on as I had done so with previous glazes. Mostly I'm trying to find out if heat, say baking it in the oven for a short spell might help to adhere the glaze or would it make it worse? I"m experimenting as I go a long but any heads up tips or where to find better guides would save a lot of time. I find trying unconventional nonconforming ways liberating and usually result in some mistakes here and there that I learn a great deal more than just comparing this dimensional glaze as opposed to another thick glaze. I'd love to talk more polymer class with other's who have more experience with it over time and can at least guide me to better tutorials geared more specfic to what pair well with my own intentions. I don't like making canes, measuring beads, so they never have a factory perfection look to them, always naturally make, I eyeball the size which was a gift from my grandmother and my father. follow me on Instagram where I post all of my art(not just beads) @manic_expressions and www.etsy.com/shop/manicbeadparty (I need to change the name on that again)
Hi Hannah Crum, I am not sure what happened there. I will keep an eye out for what could have been the problem. Maybe if you Googled it, one of the Scrapbooking people will have experienced this issue and will have a solution for you? I'll try and come back here if I do find and answer. Maybe you could too if you figure it out? Good luck!
I too would love to see you demonstrate how to use two part resins, especially the one that comes in two syringes stuck together, I think it's Ice Resin. I bought some but I'm very hesitant to try it. Seeing you demonstrate that one would be a great help.
I'm worried about glazes chipping and cracking when being worn, daily wear and tear, you know. Do you have a vid comparing glazes and seals after subjecting the test pieces to the handling and accidents that jewelry receives?
Hi Cindy, I don't know if you have tested a couple other coatings that many people I know use but in case you have not you might want to. Resin is one of the coatings that many people dip items in. Another is Utee in which they melt it in a special melting pot and dip it it. Finally there is Pledge (Future) multi-surface floor wax. This is also used by dipping clay items in it and hanging them to dry. All can be found on Amazon.com. I hope you decide to test these. Thanks and take care, Dee
Hi ***** I have worked with all three of those products before (go to my blog www.polymerclaytutor.com to learn more) though I have not tried dipping in resin. Thanks for passing that info along though!
Just a thought. In the video you put the MPDM around the outside edge. Could it have sunk in the center because there was not as much of the product in the center? Maybe not as self-leveling?
Hi salisbury1410 Possibly but it was domed in the center as well when it was wet. Different products tend to have different surface tensions so they can 'pull' differently when they dry. It would be worth doing some testing on, but I think the results would probably be the same.
Neat product, brought forward from the past lol. Would you be able to create dimensional effects by placing tiny pieces in the mod podge, and having them be "under the dome" and appear to be floating in space?
Hi Cindy & thanks for this & all your other wonderful videos. I have a question for you in relation to using your new Convection Oven. When baking which element do you prefer to use - top, bottom or both? I've just purchased one. I'm in the process of checking it's temperature control, using 2 different type of thermometers, a dial & a liquid filled. Like any oven I have ever used for anything the temperature it runs at is definitely different to what the knob says. Has this been an issue for you? I appreciate any information you can give me & would like to thank you in advance.
Hi Cindy. I love your channel! I just got some of the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic and had a really hard time with it. It didn't pull back from the edges, but I got all these weird divots in the surface. Also, even though I watched like a hawk for bubbles, the finished product showed tons of tiny little air inclusions. I really want to get better results! Do you have any suggestions as to what I could do to improve my end results? Thanks!
Hi Karen Tran It can take a few weeks for new videos to come out. I have to do them in advance and in batches. The Souffle video should be coming our soon though. Make sure to Subscribe so you don't miss it.
I like to work with a UV Epoxy Resin Called UltraDome (aka Jewelry Glaze). Other two part resins work wonderfully on polymer clay as well. I have more info about resin on my blog at www.polymerclaytutor.com. Use the search box there to find the info you need.
Hello :) I'm a beginning with polymer clay but I made some really pretty coasters (I saw a tutorial on Pinterest) and I use a gold paint marker around the edges. Is there some kind of water proof finish I can put on them so they last and don't get ruined? If you already have a video for that, which I've been trying to look for lol, please leave a link. Thank you I love your videos 😺.
Hi venusiandesigns I mostly just sand and buff my pieces with the occasional addition of Renaissance Wax. Only in specific situations to I ever use a gloss. But it is a great thing to test, because sometimes you want/need a gloss and it is good to know what options you have.

Hi, thanks for sharing this Mod Podge idea, I've never tried it as a dome cover, but I've used it as a sealer, so far so good, but since I've started using this I've also found a regular household floor wax that works great as a sealer, I found it on Amazon It's called (Lundmark) super gloss acrylic floor wax, it cost only $8.49 for a 32 oz bottle, to me this is a great deal, maybe you could try this & show your viewers how well this product works, I know I love it, one thing I don't like about Mod Podge is you have to put it on very quickly & correctly the first time, no time for re-doing anything, as it dries quickly & thickens when using it as a sealer.

Hi there, I have several videos on conditioning hard polymer clay that will help you. Don't use mod podge to seal polymer clay before resin. Just use the resin directly on top of the polymer clay. I have a video on UV Resin on Polymer clay that you can watch as well. Regular 2 part resin will work as well. Thank you for the Sub! 💖💖💖

Have you tested the regular Mod Podge Gloss (for decoupage) on polymer clay? If so, what are your thoughts? Thank you for your very instructive videos. Enjoy them and have learned much from them.
No, This product is just an airdry finish. But, I would use a different product than this one. Although it is compatible with polymer clay, people in high humidity situations have had issues with it getting sticky over time.
Hi joyce parks I personally have not tried ModPodge Gloss on polymer clay nor in the oven, but when you asked I noticed this video in the side bar that shows that Mod Podge can go in the oven. How to Use Mod Podge to Make Baked Stained Glass That makes me think it may be possible, though I would test first before committing it to an important project. Let us know if you end up trying it!
PolymerClayTutor hi :) so I did test it out by using it to make a blueberry pie and by mixing the gloss with white dry pastel on a piece of pink scrape clay then baked them. so what happened was nothing bad happen in the toaster oven but it didn't harden in the oven so I just left it out to harden for 10-15 min so it does work realy well I paid 5-6 dollars for it at Walmart :)
Hi Cindy! Very interesting video (as always!) I have heard that ModP remains sticky on polymerclay...so probably this comment is referred to classic formula...
Hi Patti Pike if you go to my blog at www.polymerclaytutor.com and type 'mold' into the search box there you will find info on how to make molds there. Thank you for your sweet words about the videos. That makes me happy! :)
Hi lantenwolfx when you speak of heat, do you mean when it sits in the sun/heater or do you mean when you wear it in hot weather? Also, once it is cool again, does it remain sticky or does it go hard again? Just wondering, because it would make a difference if it was to be used on jewelry.
Hi Patrick Campbell no I did not experience any yellowing but mine is the liquid not the spray. Sometimes sprays cause some issues with polymer clay. Sorry to hear your plates got ringed. Did you try removing the finish with acetone or rubbing alcohol? That might at least bring them back to normal.
PolymerClayTutor do you know what store I can go to to get triple thick? I couldn't find any glaze besides sculpeys at Michael's. +Neon Unicorn I have the sculpey gloss glaze but I'd like to get uv resin and triple thick somewhere not online though.
IMHO it could be better. I wish it would be a gel consistency. I found it too runny and did not stayed domed as it should. Honestly I was not impressed with it
PolymerClayTutor So, I re-baked my pieces that had the MPDM on them that had gone cloudy and it didn't help, they just got cloudier and gooey. Maybe I had the temp too high and left them in too long. I was able to pull the product and the baked clay out and save my bezel though, so all was not lost, lol.
I did a test with the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic and Aleene's paper glaze. Aleene's ruined the piece I tested it on...dried very uneven and super cloudy around the edges. Thank you for your very instructive videos. Enjoy them and have learned much from them.
I love it! Thanks for the demo! I use it to make egg whites on my food. I also add it to mini paintings to May brush storks :-)
Do you cure under UV light?
No, This product is just an airdry finish. But, I would use a different product than this one. Although it is compatible with polymer clay, people in high humidity situations have had issues with it getting sticky over time.
Why would you use this thing on polymer clay and does it only work on clay?
Can you do a studio tour please
I will get to it Osama Sukkar one of these days!
I like to use mod podge gloss as a gloss and liquid clay but does anyone know if the mod podge gloss is oven safe?
You are probably right Alessio Gila!
Thank you. Great video. Do you ever make a mold for your clay? If so, could you make a tutorial on that? Thanks so much.
Hi Patti Pike if you go to my blog at www.polymerclaytutor.com and type 'mold' into the search box there you will find info on how to make molds there. Thank you for your sweet words about the videos. That makes me happy! :)
Nice to know!!! Love your tutorials!
Great tutorial!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks
When exposed to heat it gets really sticky
Hi lantenwolfx when you speak of heat, do you mean when it sits in the sun/heater or do you mean when you wear it in hot weather? Also, once it is cool again, does it remain sticky or does it go hard again? Just wondering, because it would make a difference if it was to be used on jewelry.
do mod podge with model clay
Did you notice any yellowing going on? My Mod Podge gloss spray yellowed my polymer clay dishes and are not usable now.
Thank you. I'm going to shop around for a good price and when I get it and use it, I'll tell you how it worked.
The only problem is if you use it as a thin glaze it flakes.
Hi Neon Unicorn Are you thinning it out to make a glaze? Because water almost always dilutes the strength of any paint or finish.
No I just brush it on there. I really want to try triple thick people seem to use it a lot.
Neon Unicorn I did a video on Triple thick. Its in my channel.
Thank you! :)
Honestly I was not impressed with it
I tried this on a couple of pieces and they turned cloudy.
Hi MegaPraiseHim I wonder why? Did you put too thick a layer on? Try baking it in the oven to see if it will clear up.
PolymerClayTutor No, not too thick. I'll try baking them again and see what happens. I love the little chalk board with the video titles on it. :o)
MegaPraiseHim Let us know how it goes! And thanks, I love that little chalkboard too!
MegaPraiseHim Well that's interesting! Thanks for telling us about that.
hi ☺
I used the same product before but mine is runny not like in the tutorial, I don't know why.
