To James The Red Engine: Yes, those lists of stations are redundant and very annoying. You can see where the trains will stop, by looking at the illuminated signs. They should shut those damned announcements off, apart from emergencies and platform changes. One day, they announced a train to Penzance. There was a massive list of stations. It droned on and on. Then, no sooner did it end than they repeated the whole announcement! I have to use that horrible station regularly, and, each time, I can't wait to get out of there. The electric ticket barriers only work about 50% of the time and you have to get help from an employee, so they might as well go back to having manned barriers. In every way, the pre-2000 station was way better than the present one.
Yechh. I hate that announcement voice - the one that says when the trains are arriving! It is muddy and very depressing. I miss Phil Sayers's wonderfully clear voice. You could understand every word. This video also has a non train announcement that comes on every 10 minutes or so. I have never understood one word of it. I have asked others, and they can't understand it either. It goes "Da da daa da-da mumble mumble ... " and there is an annoying drop in pitch at the end. A female voice. What does it say?
