Not really easy portraying a character of that kind at the time. This should be a continuing series! I love this! 💯
Never has there been an instance where a wrestler’s New Generation gimmick was more shocking and controversial than their Attitude Era gimmick, but they call him the Bizarre One for a reason.
One of the greatest characters of all time and it's a true shame that people who knew nothing about the psychological side of wrestling and probably never watched a Goldust promo ruined his character. He's using other people's stupidity and hatred to expose their true nature and bring them down. That people on the outside were too stupid to realize this is the true irony.

Man I just loved how uncomfortable some of the dudes he worked with would look. Cracked me up every time. I thought his original run was amazing, had some dark creeper vibes going on which gave me the chills.
Savio Vega was larger than life before he set foot in the WWF. He used to be the Ninja Warrior TNT in Puerto Rico and one of our top baby faces. He did the face paint, the japanese moves and the cobra clutch finisher like no other.

Another thing that I really like about your channel is the respect you show the performers. I know Dustin had issues that he had to deal with later. Great stuff.
the purpose of art is to make someone feel something. i think the same can be said of a lot of my favorite characters in wrestling, but the way Goldust got people talking makes this point even stronger. the confusion and androgyny and playing-of with expectations leaves him my favorite thing to come out of 90s WWE. (speaking as a nonbinary fan here!)
He would've just been doing the same shtick he did when he was doing his Born Again Conservative Christian gimmick before Goldust's return during the Val Venis feud.
Legend! Respect to Savio Vega. I remember thinking "Savio must hate all of this" little did I know he encouraged and nurtured the beginings of the Goldust character
It's so funny that me and brothers probably imitated Goldust more than any other wrestler besides Stone Cold and The Rock. I know some people found him creepy, especially in the beginning, but he was just non stop goofy to me and my brothers. It was hard to take him seriously, and when we got old enough to start understanding the sexual innuendos, we just thought it was even goofier lol.
Growing up as a pansexual kid in the 1990s was a really tough time for me, and seeing a character like Golddust gave me hope and inspiration. Maybe one day I could be comfortable enough in my own skin to be as out there as he was. I never saw it as insulting to people like myself.
Golddust was very intriguing that's what I thought of the character and I saw it for what it was I was never offended I was just very interested to see what he would do next Dustin did a great job you should be very proud. There was absolutely going to be controversy no matter what back then I take my hat off to Dustin for going through all of that a very good and interesting character
Brilliant!!!!! The level of heat, attitude, limit pushing… the WWF was a wasteland of trash idea and man the shimmer of Golddust lit up the screen every single time Dustin appeared! And the GD/Booker run has so much gold moments tucked in there. Love this one man!!!! Love this!
Goldust was an amazing Gimmick the early years were awesome goldust's best match was against Cody Rhodes at Double or nothing 2019 that was Amazing awesome video.

This hits nostalgia to the core. Me and my mom watching wwf back in the day an damn man you cant speak of Goldust without that badass music medoly entrance.
Goldust is pretty much a character that definitely cannot happen in this day and age especially with Twitter and cancel culture them bringing out their pitchforks and torches. I miss the days of creativity in wrestling you really don't see creative wrestling characters in today's wrestling and that's what got me interested in wrestling when I look at today's wrestling it's just not the same.
the wild part is, Goldust couldn't exist today cause of cancel culture on the left, and the strong conservatism and bigotry of the right. no one would like the gimmick
@@woobgamer5210 thats exactly why he'd exist today. Do you have any idea how over the moon Vinny Mac would be if he did this today. WWE was private then, only investors to answer to was other wrestlers who would love the controversy as itd spark huge word of mouth.
I was intrigued since the very first promo. I still remember how captivated I was by his entrance in In Your House and how shocked I was when he tossed off that wig. Dustin was more than capable of putting on a fast paced match, but his first match was an excellent display of ring psychology. His matches always delivered something unexpected.
One of my favourite wrestlers ever. As a young child watching wrestling I was always mesmerised when Golddust was coming down to the ring in the film noir scenes and not knowing if he was a man or a women.
At the time I loved goldust as a character as the psychological side was just fantastic, as a now transgender woman (at the time a straight man with no idea I was lgbt) I still feel the same but I can see how it could set things back, and as a heel some of the things said about him at the time were appalling and Jerry lawler was actually really horrible at the time over it. I think he was about 15 years ahead of his time tbh. Dusty as a wrestler is and always will be one of the best character wrestlers.
I always got the impression that Dustin is fairly introverted in real life, stoic, soft-spoken, and that's why he never really set the world on fire under his own name. But you put the makeup on him and it brings this whole other side of his personality to the surface.

the purpose of art is to make someone feel something. i think the same can be said of a lot of my favorite characters in wrestling, but the way Goldust got people talking makes this point even stronger. the confusion and androgyny and playing-of with expectations leaves him my favorite thing to come out of 90s WWE. (speaking as a nonbinary fan here!)
I appreciate you actually going to the source in regards to the thoughts of the LGBT+. A lot of people just assume from the outside looking in.
What if he joined the right to censor and he became good dust? That would have been pretty weird.
Man, that would've been incredible to have witnessed just thinking about it.
He would've just been doing the same shtick he did when he was doing his Born Again Conservative Christian gimmick before Goldust's return during the Val Venis feud.
Savio Vega is an unsung hero in the 90s backstage. He boosted so many. Was there to do the job. And did a great job.
Don't forget about TNA black reign
Legend!
Respect to Savio Vega. I remember thinking "Savio must hate all of this" little did I know he encouraged and nurtured the beginings of the Goldust character
He did have one of the best entrances in the 90's
I think Shattered Dreams is one of my favorite themes of all time.
One thing that no one can convince me of otherwise, is how badass Goldust's theme song is.
Love this!
Goldust was one of my two favourite characters at the time. I never had a problem with him.
My favorite version of Golddust was when he got all freaky with Luna.
The Artist Formerly Known As Golddust
The poetic reading of Green Eggs and Ham kills me to this day.
You can have Luna I'll take Terri Runnels
The feud i hoped to happen, but never came...Goldust vs Rico. That would have been fun for sure. :)
Goldust was an amazing Gimmick the early years were awesome goldust's best match was against Cody Rhodes at Double or nothing 2019 that was Amazing awesome video.
Dustin Rhoads is a golden man ❤
Goldust is one of the best pushing buttons character in WWF/WWE history!
Dustin is a genius!
LOVING this new series! We in America had our views on different characters and its simply fascinating to hear opinions and takes on gimmicks from across the Pond. Nice work brother!
Suprising he never had a tv run with Shawn, lots of potential in that rivalry.
This hits nostalgia to the core. Me and my mom watching wwf back in the day an damn man you cant speak of Goldust without that badass music medoly entrance.
You'll never forget the name of.................Dustin Runnels
This was an excellent breakdown of Golddust. Lotta highs and a lotta lows but a man casting his own shadow
Goldust is pretty much a character that definitely cannot happen in this day and age especially with Twitter and cancel culture them bringing out their pitchforks and torches.
I miss the days of creativity in wrestling you really don't see creative wrestling characters in today's wrestling and that's what got me interested in wrestling when I look at today's wrestling it's just not the same.
the wild part is, Goldust couldn't exist today cause of cancel culture on the left, and the strong conservatism and bigotry of the right. no one would like the gimmick

thats exactly why he'd exist today. Do you have any idea how over the moon Vinny Mac would be if he did this today. WWE was private then, only investors to answer to was other wrestlers who would love the controversy as itd spark huge word of mouth.
I absolutely loved Goldust’s entrance and music. I knew the next 5 or 10 minutes was not going to be boring!
Goldust was great, the character was amazing. Vince is right in the way he used homophobia to his advantage. Lesson is don’t be homophobic.
A character that shouldn't have gotten over far surpassed expectations.
Very underatted character that had me and even casuals wrestling fans in my hometown talking about the character and how unique and bizarre he was.
We should've gotten Undertaker vs. Goldust at a WrestleMania in the 90s.
Dustin is still killing it, what a worker.
There will always be people offended about everything. You can't cater to the 1% who constantly feel unsafe and are always offended.
You did a fantastic job of putting Goldust in context
