MechWarrior Online - Zeus Gameplay

- House Steiner's crowning glory the Zeus finally arrives on the battlefields of MWO. This 80 tonner is designed to hit hard at range with its combination of LRM, Autocannon and laser weaponry. Not the best in a brawl it can certainly give a good account of itself in a fight if needed but works better when supported by more close range allies.
MWO will likely see a resurgence of fast moving assaults sporting energy loadouts and gauss rifles. The Zeus can be equipped with a jack of all trades approach to combat or specialise mainly in energy boating with a little light AC or LRM fire mixed in. It will be interesting to see what happens with the chassis once the bulk of the player base get their hands on it.
Thanks for watching and you have a good week now, you hear :)
GG! Love your vids. I never had a chance to play the Table Top, I lived in a very rural town and there was only five of us in town around the same age. I was aware of it and had seen some people playing when I moved to the city but I was extremely shy and out of my element. I now play for the Kell Hounds Scenario Paintball Team and am reading the novels. I love MWO but I don't have the same perspective so it is awesome for me to see this and that you go against the Meta. o7 sir and keep up the fantastic work!
Chef - Jitsu o7 I know I won't be as competitive as those playing the meta game but I enjoy it far more when I win while running the default weapons setup of these 'Mechs. I really wish PGI would give Battletech fans a stock mode so the purists can run around and be all FASA fanboy together :)
Those Zeus arms are awesome. Really gives it an imposing look about it.
ProgHead89 Yeah the whole chassis looks thick with armour its great :)
Was playing in my new ZEU-9S tonight. 5 x Mpulse, 1 x Lpulse, and an SRM6 with a 325 engine is really effective.
BrenBrenMartin Yeah I expect energy builds to be popular with the Zeus. Hopefully a nice counter to clan laser vomiting.
I care about why the mech was built and whatfor! Zeus was one of my favorites in old Card Game and Tabletop. Go House Steiner! :)
Thanks for the vid sir.👍🏼👍🏼
Little bit of nostalgia for the old maps of bygone days, watching this, now. :) And you must love that they've opened up the Resistance Variants to other color schemes, so you can put the Steiner pattern on your (R) variant Zeus. :)
I did recently yeah, it hasn't been dusted off for a while now.
I like the fact you mention "battle Tech Lore'. Gives the mechs and game more depth.
frank doster Thanks. I kind of wish PGI had stuck to the more Battletech simulator style they had originally, but they went for a broader market which probably kept them in business after they split with publisher IGP.
Critical Rocket Yeah tell me about it. Been a fan of BT since 97, tabletop and novels particularly. One of the reasons why I stopped playin' back when this was in beta was the mass of B-S alpha builds that were floating around and it made trying to rock a more BT 'realistic' build all but impossible. All that aside how's the game now?
glad to see the Zeus in action. wish to see more mechs from old games like the annihilator, assassin, clint, whitworth, MAN the list goes on. Oh, the flashman too. heh
***** The list goes on :) The 40 ton category needs a new 'Mech and the Assassin would be perfect. Clint is amazing to use on tabletop while the Whitworth is another fine LRM medium. Flashman is cool, I wanted a mini of it recently but they make it here. I will have to order from Iron wind metals for it annoyingly.
Critical Rocket I see. but yes. the list goes on. thank you for giving this classic big-shot a... shot. any thoughts on the dragon?
*****
Fun 'Mech that was sadly marginalised by the meta in MWO. I don't run it a lot myself but its not a bad 'Mech by any stretch.
***** Old you mean like Warhammer, Rifleman, Crusader, Archer...and thats just the heavies.
My current favorite build for the new Zeus is: 1-Gauss, 1-Lrg Pulse Laser, 3-Med Pulse Lasers. Packs a wonderful punch, has long range and brawling sweetness. This baby is fast, hits hard, and can take a beating. This is the ONLY Resistance Mech that is in the right direction to handle the Clan'ers. I run an XL in mine and will move at 81KPH with speed tweak. I've died only a couple times to R/L Torso damage.....not an issue if you turn and spread out damage. With the XL you can stack Heat Sinks to dual role as crit damage absorb and to reduce heat (of course). With my setup and the XL I can rock all guns almost non-stop without overheating.
Chip Manley I had a feeling it would do well against the Invaders. I am probably set in my ways when it comes to XL engines and assault 'Mechs :) I shall give the XL a try in one of the other variants and see how I get on. Thanks for the feedback Chip :)
Love my Zeuses... You seem to have a case in the left torso without ammo. should the AC/5 ammo in the left arm go in the left torso. If not your missing .5 tons armor...)
Richard Layton The game seems to count ammo in the arm being protected by CASE in the torso. I would have put it in the arm if I could.
just started playing this on steam, I have no idea what I'm doing, I die in moments, but I'm having fun!
+Wibble Lord That's the main thing, fun. Just remember that you can earn extra c-bills by completing the tutorial if you hadn't already and review every 'mech before buying your first.

You learn the skills needed to survive it comes with experience.
Firing weapons is easy. Learning how to be a good pilot is harder. Practice, practice, practice.
Enjoy See you on the battlefield
on the arm stands "Hand Gottes" which means "Gods hand" ^^
thx for the vid ^_~
Michi Mikes np, thanks for watching :)
always a pleasure ^_~
cant wait for grashopper and Zeus Lorewarrior ^^
Stark Wie Ein Steir(sic) is a typo. It should be Stier, which then translates to "Strong like a Bull." And Spaher means "Scout." Those damn Steiner memelords. 🤣
¸idk why they dont rename the assault class to support ...
I ordered the Zeus, works well for me. Your right the left and right torsos are targeted.
frank doster The king of the gods hunts the battlefield for the unworthy!
Bruce the Zeus!!
I miss the Zeus design with the big dragon spikes on its shoulders
Wyatt Arthur That was the experimental design, I forget the designation but it wasn't a standard Zeus. I think it might be mentioned in XTRO.
It was in Mech Commander 2 that's why I remember it
Wyatt Arthur
Yeah it was added to the tabletop around that time also. Not sure if the game influenced the books or the books influenced the game :)
Critical Rocket books influenced the game.
If y'all still play, you can buy those fins in the bolt-ons.
Yeah, i'm really liking the Zeus so far.
hey james can you tell me what happened when we get mech bay from the 'liao' faction loyallity
Vedish Hurday If you unlock if via loyalty points then as far as I know its permanently associated with your account and losing those Liao faction points does nothing for you losing it. You could effectively grind your way to each and every one for every faction to unlock everything as far as I know.
Holy crap, is that forest colony snow? I miss this map...
Me too.
Right now I'm stuck choosing between the Zeus and the Awesome for my first big mech. I really can't decide both have great variants with set ups I like and they all looks fantastic....my does this game have to be so hard.
+Zak Lewis Well if you ask me, I am biased and always go for the Awesome, but it's a wide old target. Zeus is seen less but has a more variable set of weapons available. Both are brilliant battlemechs though so you can't lose whatever one you pick.
Mastered my Orions, comfortable with them. Got a spare mechbay, considering an Assault or the Hellbringer. Any suggestions? I'm used to shoddy hitboxes, but not as bad as the Awesome.
Hellbringer is more versatile and being clan has better range and weapons. Zeus is kind of middle of the road in popularity sadly. I like it but I see way more Hellbringers than Zeus these days.
+Critical Rocket The Hellbringer does seem like a good mech... But it looks maybe a little too light at 65 tons. What would you suggest as the brawler Assault? Atlas with 4x SRM-6A could be good. Or perhaps the Battlemaster?
Ishy OQGX
Atlas works better as a brawler simply because of it's higher missile capacity. Multiple SRM6 Atlas units can quickly ruin another players day.
what was it called again....i missed it...........:)
+davekell36 It's called Zeus! ;)
Lorewarrior for kingcrab? unless you've already done one
Cosmo Pandaz King Crab lorewarrior is on its way. It will be posted after the Atlas which I already have recorded.
Ok thanks!
Cosmo Pandaz
No Problem, thanks for watching :)
And here marks the day, when the Mauler comes down at 90 tonnes...but has less torso armor than the Zeus, wonderful.
+Denchie Dean A video will be up today of this beast. So I guess we will see how it handles the current MWO environment.
Critical Rocket Word to the wise; 70 degree torso twist to the left and the right. Gonna be hard to make sure you don't get flanked, gonna need a good team to cover your ass.
Denchie Dean
I feel it went quite well :) You will see in the vid. It's a little different from previous mech specific videos for the channel.
Critical Rocket Quad LRM 15's with the cooldown on the 1R is glorious.
Denchie Dean
Hit I bet, but the rate of fire must be glorious.
You can't put an ac20 on it, not enough arm slots, i've been running it with two ac5s.
Ozzie Game Guys I blame that oversight on my recording the narration at 3:20 in the morning =p
Which 80 ton assault mech would you say is the best?
lumpy1space2princess Well I am biased in that the Awesome is my favourite. But if I had to choose one of the 80 tonners going purely off MWO. I would say the Victor is pretty damn decent. Its got admittedly few but well placed hardpoints, jump capable and not too bad speed wise. Plus the default ability to mount the AC/20 makes it a great brawler.
Critical Rocket Battlemaster or Victor?
Also, 4 large pulse lasers on the Zeus is great.
lumpy1space2princess
Ah, quite the choice. Both are good but I would have to go with the Battlemaster because its 5 ton heavier than the Victor and it has more chassis options with regards to builds. It can be a powerful LRM carrier, pulse laser beast or a mix of both. Victor has better ballistics but I would go Battlemaster.
Critical Rocket I'm getting my first assault mech soon, and I'm normally a medium brawler pilot.
lumpy1space2princess
I fine the Victor to be the better brawler but if you want a different style of play the battllemaster can provide that. I wouldn't recommend the Battlemaster for brawling due to its extremely wide torso.
The first time i see this paint. The writing in the back is either written wrong or means something rather weird. On the mech stands "Steir", but it should probably mean "Stier" (ger.: bull).
+Sim. Frischh Yeah I was told by a unit mate that it was wrong. PGI need to spellcheck sometimes.
+Critical Rocket Well, they are canadians, can´t expect them to be fluent at german^^
Sim. Frischh
But we have the internet and things like google translate.....but yeah your right you can't expect people to be perfectly fluent in a language they don't use everyday.
+Critical Rocket Or ever. How many PGI members actually do speak german?
Sim. Frischh
Honestly, no idea about that. If one did speak fluent German then you would imagine you would have them take a quick look at the art to be sure it's correct.
this game looks pretty good.
... I wonder if my favorite, the Axeman is in it?... is there even physical combat?
+Thorus Zwolf Sadly not yet, but I am hoping it will arrive one day :)
Critical Rocket Back when I played Battle Tech, I rocked a modified Axeman; TSM infernos and flamers... I always wondered what it would be like to be in a mech set a blaze like that... they got Flamers at least?
+Thorus Zwolf Yeah flamers are in, they are widely regarded as crap but I like them. Nice way to reduce your opponents framerate and overheat them.
Critical Rocket A different style of warfare, you got people who master the Established methods and come to expect the same response, it's nice to throw a wrench in their finely tuned machine once in a while and see how they cope -'J
Thorus Zwolf
Agreed :)
Hand Gottes means God's Hand :)
Tim Woo Yeah apparently its "hand of god", "Heavy", "Iron Shoulder" and something about being built like a bull.
Critical Rocket Schwer would be heavy, I looked up Späher, it seems to mean scout. See: www.dict.cc/deutsch-englisch/Sp%C3%A4her.html
Tim Woo
Scout is a nice in joke about Steiner and its so called "Scout Lances".
Omg "Eisen Schultern"...
And what the heck is a "Steir"?
Dear PGI, don't write and speak german if you're not able to write and speak it!
Don't blame yourself. It's ridiculous. My english sux too, but it's much better than PGI's german.
Yeah I had to get a German TAW member to tell me and he found it funny that they got it so wrong.
