  • How To use Auto Hold on VW group vehicle.
    So the 2012 onwards model of Golf comes with an AutoHold feature to prevent the car rolling and help with Hill starts. It can be found on almost every other VW group car as well now. Personally I love it but lots of people will be dead against it or find it confusing, So here's a little video to help understand how it works

      Once I parked a car with auto hold in a very steep downhill position. When I drove again, normally I will hold the brake and release it gently to slowly rolling down without pushing the gas pedal, but the car didn't allow me to do so. I had to press the gas pedal to release the auto brake, which is scary to me. What would you do in such situations?

    • @turtletrading4207

      @@haibuihoang I am not sure how your car is configured but on my golf I would give a bit more gas to be able to move off while pressing the clutch. The car should remain stationary with active auto hold. Then, I would start releasing slowly the clutch and just before the clutch engage, the brake should be released automatically. At this point I use clutch control and give more or less gas to control my speed. I tested that on a fairly steep hill and it worked quite well.

  • @AlanCooney
    @AlanCooney 6 років тому +4

    Thanks for video. I noticed that Auto Hold keeps brake lights lit as if your "heavy" foot remains on brake pedal! It's basically holding on the hydraulic pressure. Whereas the "normal" parking brake holds rear wheels "mechanically" without dazzling the car behind you with bright red lights!! That's why I don't use Auto Hold.

      Actually if the auto hold is on, and you release the foot brake, you’ll notice if you try to press the foot brake back down you won’t be able too. I couldn’t explain why, but I’ve noticed this. Letting go of the brake to prepare to take off but then changing my mind and being nervous that the auto hold might let go (anxiety lol) then I go to press down the foot brake and it’s locked itself in place hahaha

Also the "auto hold" works well if you are driving in a multi-storey car park.

      I dont think it light up the braking lights tho i could be wrong about that since i usually sit inside the car haha. Anyways it applies if you press the brake firmly and holds the car for about 5 secs, i think its meant for hill starts since its a manual, idk if autos have it.
