Including me I have seen many people having awkward relationship with their mother in the case of emotional attachment. We are very free with each other, still feel awkward to hug or adore each other which is pretty normal and adorable with my father. The way the daughter hugs her father and she gets the positive response here, same thing happens between me and my father. Hence, it is not something abnormal that the girl does not hug her mother here.
