- You never know what a smudge in the night sky might be - and it could turn out to be something amazing and awesome! I did just that the other night taking an astrophoto of the larger galaxy Messier 101, and stumbled across a smaller object that took me by surprise.
There's a little bit more info on that object NGC5474 here: en.wikipedia.o...
What is it that you have stumbled upon in the night sky and then researched and were amazed by? Anything interesting? Unique?

Great Video, Love those images of M101 and That little Galaxy. I had my first Photo of a galaxy. The Sombrero Galaxy M104, It's a High surface brightness galaxy at 8th Magnitude, so I was able to capture it from my Bortle 8 skies with short Exposures! As always Love your videos!
Oh yes, The Sombrero! Nice! And thank you! I will have to give M104 a try too. While I am working through camera issues and settings, I am in my driveway which has a great north, west and overhead view, but not so much south and east. But I can set up on our more open prairie property and see about some of those objects in the southern part of the sky when I get a little more confidence about the equipment.
Stumbled on M108 looking for a cluster near the Dipper.
Ah yes, right near the star Merak in the Bowl.
72mm scope? Dude, thats awesome!
No darks or flats, pretty raw, no correctors.. now i know i can do it!
This is why i miss you man.
I am trying to get back to the videos. Life has been.... Well, just lots more of it lately. And thanks for the kind words! Yes, a mere 72mm telescope can capture sooooo much!
@@Eyesonthesky I understand life man. Plenty of it here too.
May God bless you with success in life and in battle.
We're still here.
I can only do static widefield shots in suburban skies and even with bad editing, I'm always surprised to find "that smudge looks like *something*" and it turns out to be true lol. The most memorable one was trying to make the Flame and Horse nebulae visible in my widefield of Orion's lower half and another tiny nebula showed up (Casper the Friendly Ghost according to Stellarium)
Yes! That's serendipity in astronomy.
An excellent point and what a cool find! What other hobby gets to say they saw four hundred million stars being flung across space?
Right?? It just kind of blows my mind.
Very cool indeed. I have a video on the subject of annotating your images specifically to find out what those fuzzy smudges are. Will refrain from linking it, so this comment doesn’t land in you review inbox.
Thank you for inspiration, David!
You're welcome!
I’ve been watching your channel since 2013! I love your content, and thanks for the great videos over the years-I’ve learned so much, you helped me get into amateur astronomy!
Continue your channel
New video up today.

If you could add a few hours to each day, that would help.
Starting at about 35 seconds, there’s a tiny white spot moving horizontally across at about 1/3 from screen top. What is it? Love the vids. Keep looking up. Thanks.
Oh, that's probably a satellite showing up in Stellarium.
Seeing something you weren't even looking for is always the best feeling. Keep it up! Been enjoying your photos on the twitters and glad to see you talk about them here.
Thanks! I have finally gotten a bit better settled in at the new house and have some new equipment that has also decided to all talk to each other and work so I can start making videos again!
I always get excited when I pick a target and go looking for it and eventually find it in my scope. Especially as I don't always find them. Thanks for sharing your excitement.
Thank you for this wonderful comment. 🙂👍🌠🔭
Are you back doing a video on a regular bases?
Not quite, but working on it. What content would you like to see me make in the future?
@@Eyesonthesky anything you do is great …your explanations are very clear and through
Star hoping, Stellarium, and the use of cameras
Thanks for the views.😊
Thank you for watching! 🙂
