Shelley Winters tells a story in her second autobiography about how the little girl in this movie could not swim. The first time the girl tried jumping in the pool for the director, Shelley jumped in after her, ruining her hair, makeup, and beautiful Edith Head outfit. She had to plead with the director to let the little girl use a floaty ring. It was interesting to see how they cut around the little girl when she did not have the ring on and had to struggle. Also, Shelley didn't want to do this movie, because she was excited about being in a play at the same time. But she loved Ray Walston, and had to fulfil her contract, so she did it to work with him. Doesn't it seem like they had a great time?

Cute 🥰 romantic movie 🎥 🍿 Janet Leigh ( Jamie Lee Curtis’ Mother Tony Curtis her father) and Van Johnson were a great couple on screen!! Shelley Winters and Ray Walston was a great couple too!!!💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
omg Winters is hilarious in this-- is this where they got the idea for The First Wives Club? "First wives are like old elephants-- they just wander off...." haha!
NOT QUITE!!! They usually take at least HALF, if not ALL of your money and stuff with them. The only HOPE that exist is having the fantasy of a hunter on the prowl and mistaking them for a wandering elephant and take them out! I am sure many only need to wear a large gray coat making it easier to mistake them for a wandering elephant.
This was an interesting movie for me. I enjoyed seeing My Favorite Martian (Ray Walston), Shelly Winters when she was younger than I remember her, and of course Janet Leigh.
Unfortunately not. 20th century was bouth out and the archive films have been vaulted. Not on UA-cam, not anywhere on the internet, not in independent theatres like the Rio. By valuting them there pushing into streaming crud like crave and netflix.
I guess when living married with children was a normal thing and genders were defined. We all had a common ideology of right and wrong. We made things work because the world revolved less around self. Now that people have contempt for most everything. Especially against men, marriage, religion and having children. Is it any wonder why we are in a fallen state? What a mess.
明るくて楽しめますが,最も心に触れたものは,子役のジュリーの演技であった。I enjoy cheerful and hilarious movies. But in this film, the most touching scenes are all by the child actress, Julie to me. The little girl appears many times and shows very cute, smart and wonderful acting. No way with too much excitement with unexpected money and desire! Thanks.
This movie is so weird on so many levels! Only after "the situation changed in the end," did the husband start to respect & appreciate his wife. I can't even rate this. The fashions, though, a 5 Star.
Wasn't there a song recorded in the mid-60's entitled, "Wives and Lovers" (I don't recall the artist) with an opening lyric which went, "Hey, Little Girl, comb your hair, fix your makeup..."? I recall that the lyric depicted a suburban wife hurriedly trying to pretty-up for her husband before he arrived home from the city. Was that song inspired by this film?
Im8982: Thank you. Yes, the singer was a man on the recording I heard from time to time on the radio. BTW, I don't think it's a bad thing for a woman to look attractive or "doll up" for her husband or boyfriend. Dressing up can be fun.
As I was saying, the Phyllis Dillar movie were she was the nagging wife and when her husband dies, he falls in love with another soul and then the story begins.
Cynthia Lyman and it's so Bazaar to watch her on the Roseanne show as Rosie's grandma heavyset wear jeans and flannel shirts wearing her Chicago Bears baseball cap. You'd never think it was the same woman, never! she's good at the comedy too. Good ol Shelley Winters ♥♥♥

For those under the age of forty, you must consider that during this era "Making Love" was considered holding hands and kissing. But this is pretty racy stuff for the early sixties. My Mother would have never allowed me to watch this.....it might be too encouraging! Haha
I'm 63 and making love was having sex. Unfortunately with so much access to porn on the internet, people don't know what making love is anymore is just having sex, a special intimacy have left the beautiful act if making love.
Winter's sardonic lines are classic and quirky little Julie with the eating disorder is a treat. The predator's role played by 'Gar' was extremely uncomfortable to watch as was Bill's obnoxious behaviour but all the roles were cleverly written. The script was fast paced and enjoyable.

This seems to be about getting us the people used to the idea that adultery could be fun, daring, and entertaining.
Yeah that's what I thought This movie is pure Hollywood fantasy at its worst 🙄
Hollywood is always trying to make adultery look”fun”! They never show the wreckage left behind
They didn’t have to try very hard. It was more the norm than the exception back then, as it had been throughout history.
There's definitely nothing lighthearted about lying, cheating, gaslighting and emotional manipulation...nor narcissism.
