Just last night my darlings (mother and daughter) in Zap were teasing me with photos of them cooking supper and dessert - knowing I was heading into work this morning, running on a granola bar. They know I like a big breakfast or I get irritable.

It is. Very rarely will you find processed foods in Ukraine. Most of those ingredients come from - out yonder! (the garden or orchard)
I would actually try this, except I would grate the onion because I'm neurotic like that. This channel and Speak Ukrainian have me raring to try Ukrainian recipes. I made my first borshch early last week, and though I had a few changes (leeks instead of onion, arugula instead of cabbage), it was still a hit.

My favorite thing on my travels in Slovakia, Ukraine and Poland has been herring under a fur coat. Now the temperament and personality of the girl matter quite a bit, but in the end enthusiasm and hygiene is the main decider of satisfaction. Here, I think would be the Olympic medal winner.
