Also, if you're interested in RAWR, here's a bit of information - but note this group is about a lot more than a once-per-year writing challenge, they do short story contests, workshops, all sorts of fun things all year round!
The theme of the challenge is botany (cool!) and there are different word goals you can strive for: 25k, 50k, 75k, 100k, and non-word oriented goals
They're doing badges via discord and have a website and use a 3rd party for tracking. There are sessions, activities, workshops, blogs - check it out if you're interested (the details are on the discord): roguewriters.net/

Thanks for this info! I couldn't do Nanowrimo because I'm closing the semester and it is not a good month for writing (south hemisphere things xD) and adding all the problems with Nano I'm looking for another challenge and (hopefully) on different dates.

Thanks for the Rogue Writers & RAWR shout out!
I really wish that more people would talk about the environmental impact of AI. I appreciate you focusing on that.

Definitely! It's a huge, massive issue...and honestly maybe the thing that most concerns me about AI.
Thank YOU so much for watching, engaging, and commenting! :) wonderful to have you here!

Ahh thanks for the shout out 🥰 And thanks for mentioning the environmental impact of AI. I honestly haven't read as much about that aspect of it, so it was nice hearing a little more about it.
That's so weird about music or theater related books not selling. It seems like the whole "theater kids" subset is a really passionate group and so many people like musical theater (I'm thinking about how popular stuff like Wicked and Hamilton are). Maybe it's just an untapped market and your book is going to be the one to blow it wide open👀

Yeah, Google's emissions have increased by 50% since 2019, and Microsoft's by 30%. The better the models get, the more energy demands grow and these have been flagged as potentially completely derailing climate targets. Haha yeah! That agent called it out particularly...it's not that there aren't theatre books, there are a few a year. Becky Albertali's Kate in Waiting is probably one of the biggest in recent years, but they don't tend to be mainstream hits, if that makes sense 😂

What are YOU thinking about for your fall writing plans? And what kind of content are you looking to enjoy this year?

I think I might use October to blend RAWR with ZAPWHAMPOW and maybe use Heart Breathing's rough draft challenge in November.
ZAP is for preparation)which was supposed to be in September).
WHAM is to write the 50,000 words in the 31 days of October.
POW is a reading challenge for October.
Heart Breathings is a UA-cam page.
ZAPWHAMPOW is on different platforms, mostly Tiktok, I think, but I have found them on Facebook, too.

The whole nano situation is so disappointing. I’ve already been feeling unhappy with them so this has been the last straw. I’m still formulating my thoughts on how I want to talk about it on my channel. As for my fall plans, I have a book I’m hoping to launch in October so I think by November I’ll be working on the next book in my small town romance series. 😊

I completely agree with you...I can't remember if I edited this part out of the video or not, but I do think that if this had happened in isolation, it might've been something I felt they could have come back from, if that makes sense. But it's been a general building of unhappy flags. I'm disappointed as well!
Oh my goodness - book launch October! That's so exciting :) Is that book part of your small town romance series? I'm excited to hear about it - I'm not a massive romance reader but picking one up for cozy fall reads sounds like a really good fit :)

@@NicoleWilbur this will be the next book in my London romance series. So I’m switching series. I want to keep both series going but right now I can only publish one book a year.

I feel like the whole gr@@ming of a child should have been a full stop to quit supporting them. I find it sad that it took their inclusive stance (although poorly stated) to be the reason a lot of people are not supporting them this year

That's a really good point!! Definitely something I want to reflect on more
So for me, after the board seemed to take big steps to addressing the forum issues, it felt like "okay let's give the organisation a chance to do better" and then this was the last straw, like "nope, they failed their second chance."
I don't think *this* would be as big a turning point for folks if what happened last fall hadn't occurred, if that makes sense. But you raise a good point overall about thinking about when & why support for an organisation is withdrawn

@@NicoleWilburI totally get that. Organizations especially non profit can be mismanaged all the time and can be given a second chance. I think because I work daily with victims of S.A. I have a zero tolerance.
