Zyzz spawned so many Vini Vidi Vici chest tats. The Misc forums era was so much fun, everyone was just the right amount of cheeky and helpful. I mentioned in passing I had skipped school because of acne and had a couple randoms DM with advice and check up on my progress posts. Honestly, it changed my life for the better.
He was an inspiration for my generation. Not to mention, 400,000 followers was huge back then. People hadn't even hit 1mil subs on UA-cam back in those days. Rip Zyzz. You absolute inspiration and King
in Australian highshool Zyzz was like the culture setter for my generation. there were people that had never heard of him using his vocab to shit on your mates. he was a true legend and he's missed to this day
Yeah it's hard for others to appreaciate how much of an influence he had, I was in highschool in Sydney around the time he was popular and his videos/language/memes would be part of daily highschool life, the haircut being something of an icon for the lad/emo cross over kids, there used to be this divide between us but the hardcore/gabber scene seemed that bring in the lads and scene kids to the same festivals and mix together, it truly was a wild time, I was a scene kid through and through, most EDM I got into was Skrillex shit so I always saw Zyzz as a lad but in hindsight he played WoW like me and I was also THE skinniest kid in my year so I kinda resonate with this and feel for him more after watching this, crazy what time does..
@@Meshughana Wow it's crazy the similarities we had. Was in school at that time too, very into the metal/emo scene, skinny af, etc. Never got into the trance/EDM/hardstyle stuff that much tho, was more into metal/hardcore and going to gigs at local youth centres around Syd. He had the exact same influence on me and my circle that you described too. We'd mimic his phrases and mannerisms more in a troll/ironic way which is probably what he intended anyway. Was in the middle of HSC period when he passed and man it shook us a fair bit. Had a few mutual mates with Chestbrah too so made it a lot more real. Even today all these years later, watching some old vids flings me back to those years and really hits the feels.
Zyzz is a sad story, but I think an important one. He got a bunch of people into the gym which honestly is great. Lots of people look to him for inspiration and his legacy lives on now. God knows, I'm only in such good shape cause of Zyzz memes back in the day. It is a reminder though of what's important in life. Even if steroids weren't what killed him, I think it is important to consider how bad drugs and PED can be. Almost all bodybuilders right now use it and just don't talk about it, I'm glad Zyzz at least was willing to say "yeah I do it" instead of lying to an impressionable audience like most guys online. He realized what he was doing wasn't where he wanted to be and tried to get out of it and I think that is commendable. Heartbreaking he never managed to. Dude was a legend, it's on us to carry on what he started.
Instead he is glorified for his body and his "aesthetics" which he got from steroids, everything you said contradicts his fanbase completely, they all have body dysmorphia which just leads to steroid use and eventually the sad outcome that had happened to zyzz.. Like even in my personal life, when I ask my friends why was zyzz so great? They ask he lived life to the fullest before dying, to which I think, what? He left behind distraught parents and a brother that cared about him, giving up your life for simply steroids is never worth it
@@shadowtale123 I won't disagree wit most of that. I think way too many people got caught up in his looks and basically bought into the shallowness of it. Guys laugh at the things he would say to women about them being only liking him cause he was ripped, but they're basically exactly the same, they just don't want to sleep with him. I do think that it's not all just body dysmorphia and nerds wishing they were him though. Zyzz got a bunch of people just into regular working out, no steroids or anything. We're All Gonna Make It is such a meme, but I think it describes a lot of the appeal. Zyzz was a loser playing WoW who managed to get confident and get ripped because he actually tried and anyone can if they put in the effort. That's the appeal and that's why he's beloved.
He also probably encouraged steroid use among many who now regret ever having considered it, and I recall regularly seeing people get glassed and pummeled at bars and festivals by dudes who had his physique.
@@matthewcurry3565 yeah thats why zyzz in general is a sad story, of someone who wanted to become better, chose a bad path with steroids, and when he wanted to make a good change in his life he passed away, he became famous for his online persona, and inspired millions of young guys that didnt have much to look up to, to get in shape and work hard, never told anyone to do roids, in fact he told people to stay natural, dont know why the hate towards him, but as zyzz said, id rather be the one that gets hated on than the one who does the hating, wish you all the best! cheers!

Zyzz got me and my college roomates into lifting in 2011. Although I don't condone/agree, based on his attitude, I think early death worked to immortalize him. He inspired a generation to be fit and didn't live to see the days where influencers become the villain or get caught up in the newest trend. He didn't live long enough to tarnish his own "air of invincibility" (Ironic wording, I know). His spirit will live on for generations and he'll always be remembered for the good he did.
This video is a time capsule. Takes me back to the Misc: bodybuilding forums back in 2006-2009 ish. The internet was so good back then. Zyzz was a pioneer of the true OG trolling and I always loved using his signature phrases. RIP Zyzz
He's the definition of "live fast, die young". Even if the circumstances surrounding his mentality and death ultimately suggest that the end of the road for enhanced lifters and famous influencers is their own destruction in one form or another - his passion for life has motivated millions. He'll be remembered for a really long time for taking something that traditionally scared people or was associated with assholes and showed that you can become the best whilst also being a good dude. RIP Zyzz, we're gonna go make it for you.

I think its fare to assume Zyzz is a legacy that everyone in the body building community looks up to, he's an inspiration to me and many of my friends. Even though I recently picked up working out in 2020, there's a particular saying that sticks with me and I'm sure with many out there and that is "WE WILL ALL MAKE IT BRAHS, THERS A BIT OF ZYZZ IN ALL OF US" RIP ZYZZ
I am from Barcelona, Spain, 17,000 kilometers from Australia, literally the other side of the world, and I still see people wearing Zyzz shirts on the street and especially in gyms. It's crazy, having died at only 22 years old and having spent more than a decade.
Its surprising how these videos, news channels etc. all got it wrong. Zyzz died in a massage parlor after getting a nose job in thailand. His brother recounts this in a voicechat room way back in the day just shortly after it all happened. Zyzz went to sleep on a couch in the parlor and never woke up. Many suspect it was due to the painkillers from the surgery but his brother didn't comment on that. The video of his brother talking about this can be found still on youtube. It is called "chestbrah explains how zyzz died".
A bunch of us went to the gym with Zyzz at Fitness First Carlo back in the day. Fuck me what a trip down memory lane. We all saw each other at Epping station and mac centre and the guy definitely struggled with some demons especially when he was using really heavily. Such a shame because he really was such a happy guy and loved a good festival.
I never knew this guy. I started going to the gym and taking it seriously to lose 20 lbs. Never wanted to be a body builder as I was more attracted to the idea of widening my chest and keeping my waste small. My friend was a big boy, knew he needed to work out, but could never do it. I brought him the gym once to get him started (I am a terrible gym partner) and told him his results are up to him. For 6 months he made no progress. Then suddenly he got into a health kick referencing Zyzz. I thought it was dumb but hey motivation is motivation. Now he has lost 70lbs and I could not be more prouder. And I believed Zyzz saved this mans life.
Been a personal meme and icon between my friend and I since 2012… Good to see him getting recognition, we’re all gonna make it brah. It’s an act, there is no zyzz, zyzz is a spirit brah.

Dude I never thought I'd see Asmon reacting to ZYZZ! He was my motivation to start working out hard, change my mindset and gave me the ability to have faith in myself. It was around back in 2010 when he first got his peak amount of fame. Such a tragedy
Also damn man, I wish he would have just ghosted after he was overwhelmed and just hopped back on wow with the boys. It quite literally could have helped save his life mentally
Zyzz inspired milions to stand against their bullies by doing hard work, me included. I started at 14, as fat bullied kid, now, 16 years later (actually yesterday) i won my first ironman race uphill. I have freakish strength. It's led to me being a sort of "gentle giant", I wouldn't want to actually hurt someone. But that's the sad truth, I think it's genetic bone density or an adrenaline chemical imbalance. I've bumped into people before and caused them to bruise and broken things from grabbing them without proper focus or attention. I struggle with it on a daily basis and wonder how my body will be affected from it in the future.
@@Sorrowdusk I wonder why we as humans are so fascinated with super heroes sometimes. Do you think it's because our potential as humans is intrinsically tied into our experience and the act of improving our agency in life? As you grow older your consciousness becomes more aware of how the world works, but also how it can be "broken" and how it exactly doesn't work. Cheers.
A perfectly healthy person can live over 120 years, sad that people take shortcuts in life trying to be "the best". Slow and steady wins the race gentlemen.
I've been around a while and maybe with the exception of overweight, I've never met a person fixated on sculpting/altering/marking their body, however they do it, who I'd consider "together". In fact I find that it's invariably an expression of a troubled person. If you find yourself in this position, take my advice if you can: There is no solution in regarding your physical form a manifestation of a "hole in your soul". It can serve as a catalyst for positive change because it makes you go to new places, meet new people and do different things. But if you think about it, those things are actually counter points to your fixation, so why not go straight to the source instead? Obsessions are generally not healthy and will only serve to block your personal growth, because their perceived substance simply isn't there. You're not actually solving, you're avoiding. Lift your gaze and look outwards. Do and be interested in many things. If you can't think of any, search for them. Integrate yourself and be patient. Reality is far too complex for anyone to be able to predict or conclude. Slowly, as your circumstances and perspectives change, and they will change, things have a tendency of sorting themselves out. New questions, doubts and problems will come, but you'll get better at accepting and solving them. And don't ever forget; life is a bitch for everyone. Many people specialize in making it seem like it's not, but the truth of it is that worldly existence is painful and hard. Perpetual happiness and eternal bliss is not compatible with the makeup of reality and the human psyche, and is therefor a logical impossibility and a lie. From misery is born joy and vice versa. If you stay with it, you'll have plenty of both. The pendulum keeps swinging, and there is no alternative. Somewhere down the line you may find that the mere fact that you're experiencing it all, is kind of a miracle.
@@baraka629 That field lies with a broken back. I don't think it was ever meant to be that a select group of professionals should have a monopoly on passing down perspective and insight anyway. It takes a village to raise a child, and ultimately there is no fixed template.
I think a lot of people outside the fitness industry don't realise just how big of an impact Zyzz has had. Think about how huge of a trend "going to the gym" has become among young men (and by extension, young women) - I actually think Zyzz was one of the major "turning" points for that cultural shift. You can watch fitness youtuber's like Greg Doucette talk about him, and you'll see that they largely agree. But what we all wonder is: what would he have achieved if he hadn't died? There are fitness influencer's that are just poor imitations of him that have millions and millions of followers. But for Zyzz, it wasn't just about his physique - he had a powerful charisma that made people want to follow him, and he was extremely intelligent. One can only wonder.
I personally call it "destructive motivation". Whenever you do something to run away from something, you'll never be happy and will never get enough. Like, when people are making money just to not be poor, they will never stop at anything, and exactly because of these cases there is saying "money spoil the people". Because, they have no understanding what they actually gonna do with these money. And same with fame. Same with anything: sports, gaming, relationships, etc. Because when people are getting to some point they've set as goal in this way, and see it didn't bring them happiness, they simply think it should be more. But when you do something with exact understanding why, you'll never appear in this situation. In other words always move towards something, not away from something.

He's just an honest dude regardless of how he died or spoke he was definitely a character.
Zyzz got me into Jim, 7 months later i can now bench 100kg for 1 :D
in Australian highshool Zyzz was like the culture setter for my generation. there were people that had never heard of him using his vocab to shit on your mates. he was a true legend and he's missed to this day
Yeah it's hard for others to appreaciate how much of an influence he had, I was in highschool in Sydney around the time he was popular and his videos/language/memes would be part of daily highschool life, the haircut being something of an icon for the lad/emo cross over kids, there used to be this divide between us but the hardcore/gabber scene seemed that bring in the lads and scene kids to the same festivals and mix together, it truly was a wild time, I was a scene kid through and through, most EDM I got into was Skrillex shit so I always saw Zyzz as a lad but in hindsight he played WoW like me and I was also THE skinniest kid in my year so I kinda resonate with this and feel for him more after watching this, crazy what time does..
if he hadnt died he would have controlled all of twitch easily
I was a skinny kid playing WoW then I discovered Zyzz in 2008. His quote "We're all gonna make it brah" is true. I made it :) Thank you Zyzz.
He was my senior in highschool. Then died in my hometown. Weirdest feeling man. He inspired every boy in my year group hit the gym without fail.
Didn’t he die in Thailand
He left behind distraught parents and a brother that cared about him, giving up your life for simply steroids is never worth it
Now that I think about it, yeah those old Zyzz memes on /k/ got me into the weight room when I was in middle school
@@shadowtale123 +1

Great analysis

I struggle with it on a daily basis and wonder how my body will be affected from it in the future.
@@Sorrowdusk I wonder why we as humans are so fascinated with super heroes sometimes. I miss Aziz Shavershian

Never in my life would I have imagined that Asmongold finds out who Zyzz is, is this timeline real?
Sounds like asmon was about to cry at the end, Zyzz was a big part of my life and influenced me and my friends working out around 2011 before then we were just wow/starcraft 2 nerds
