WOW! For the first time I realize that Halifax Wanderers stadium is with real grass! So far I thought only Cavalry have real grass stadium. That didn't look sexy, during the rain it looked like a field from 4th/5th division England, but it was so refreshing. And the joy of the crowd after the game... Like watching real football. Great game and great refereeing by the lady.
Correct on the grass Stadium! Then and Cavalry. You’ll notice as well that HFX never host games too early on, often starting the year (as they did both this and last year) on the road
Very exciting match at the Wanderers Grounds. The Wanderers are playing with edge and attitude. Fillion was brilliant. Nimick set up the first, scored the game winner and what a celebration!
Ref kinda made a mess of things at the end, can't allow play to continue and then also award a penalty. Effectively gave the Wanderers two chances. Still, the better team won today.
I went and looked it up, indeed, if the non offending teams gets a shot off, there should be no returning to the original foul. So that was a big mistake.

Under section 5.3 of the laws (powers and duties (of the referee)) all it says is "allows play to continue when an offence occurs and the non-offending team will benefit from the advantage, and penalises the offence if the anticipated advantage does not ensue at that time or within a few seconds". First, the referee did not apply advantage in this case (no hand signal) - she correctly used her "few" second buffer during which she gets to decide whether or not to apply advantage. Once the shot is blocked, it is clearly advantageous for the team to receive a penalty shot. **Referees are told that the "few seconds" is five seconds.** If she had applied advantage, I think your argument would hold more water. However, it is still up to the referee to decide whether the opportunity (shot) gained from the advantage is indeed advantageous to the penalty shot that would otherwise be awarded. Let me know if you have a different perspective or if you feel I missed something.

Or no foul occured and play continues, and there was no foul occured in the following play to call a penalty for. But because play got called back, we can assume advantage was used. But this ambiguity is a problem. The second problem, according to IFAB "However, the non-offending team should not be given two chances, e.g. a player is fouled but recovers and has a shot at goal; if the player does not score, the referee cannot go back and give a free kick for the original offence" and this situation follows the two chances to score, so play shouldn't have been called back.
