I love when VP cover classic rock songs like this and often find that their version, for me, surpasses the original. Rock god Eli coming out to play is always a treat. Love rock god Geoff as well but his bass in this was perfect! I loved the Kansas original from the time it came out but I turn to either this or Jonathan Young's version when I want to hear it now. Would really love you to react to Jon's cover of the old Blue Oyster Cult classic "Don't Fear The Reaper" with Violet Orlandi on her YT channel - beautiful version and a side of Jon you may not have yet discovered! These rock classics are older than the people now covering them and it's great to hear their take on them. I would love to be able to give VP and my other fave UA-cam artists a whole list of rock classics and say "Ok - go ahead; do your own thing and make 'em even better for me."
Forget Eli’s grit. What about the raw power? And his ability to hold a note at max power for like ten minutes? The power he’s casually showing off here is what hits me. He has put straight up physical chills down my back more than even Geoff.
I’m old enough to love Kansas, I’m a Supernatural fan, so I couldn’t wait for this. I have it on my play list. Yes, I’m that old Lady rocking out in my car you just passed! 😆🎶
Back in the ‘70s when this came out, it was somewhat seen as the anthem for PTSD from the Vietnam War. So I connect it more with that than with Supernatural. My younger brother was way too young to have gone fortunately but he was quite surely a ‘Wayward Son’ with drug problems for all his post-junior high years until an overdose in his 40s. He loved cranking up this song! And while I also loved the song it wasn’t until I heard VP cover it that the words about redemption in this really hit home for me. I love to listen to this and remember my baby brother, with the line ‘nothing equals the splendor’ to remind me I will see him again someday. Something I don’t remember hearing from the beginning. This is not the first time that their cover has really brought the song’s meaning to the forefront!
I LOVED the look on your face when you knew that crazy sub was coming! And yeah, your pants-free reaction to this will go down in history. LOL. I actually think Geoff has topped himself, most lately in Drunken Sailor; now he’s not just dropping the occasional random sub, but actually singing full phrases in subs. I also love the “heartbeat” rhythm in this-reminds you of Davy Jones’ Heart from the movie. Brilliant touch! This was a fun reaction, guys!
Glad you finally got around to watching this one. I love their version so much, plus I love how they start the song high with Eli and end it low with Geoff.
Always ENJOY.....YOUR reaction to Geoff, Eli, Layne......you have it "BAD"....in a good way.....they start the new year with a killer song.....i think this was January 2021......You need to CALM DOWN....lol.......have you seen their latest 'Barbershop' tag at a Disney store? Think "lung capacity" between Eli and Cesar.......>^^
Sir...Sir, we love your rambling. It makes us happy to watch you get excited and enthusiastic about these songs... Loved how much you got into this song! Loving the return of the full antlers too... #DJAntlers
I just love it when you drop these little snippets of Info into the comments! Are they really? That’s what it always reminds me of but I just thought it was my imagination.
Another brilliant reaction. You showed great restraint when Geoff first came in 😅. Then the end, you melted the same as I did. These guys are amazing .
I don't usually like cover arrangements of older songs, especially from this era of music when they have changes from original melodies. But they did such a fantastic job!
Mmmm…nope. A standard bass guitar’s lowest note is A1. Geoff has a solid octave more. The upright bass aka the double bass hits A0. A less common variation of the guitar bass with a fifth string has the same range I believe. So, it’s either a double bass or a five string guitar bass because Geoff can’t do anything as common as a plain old bass guitar. 😏
After hours at the Big Rapids Pizza Hut, (for the workers) Carry on my Wayward Son and Fly Like an Eagle by the Steve Miller Band would play while we cleaned up the restaurant and got ready to go home.
SPNFamily represent! 😄I love this cover. ETA: The clothing and lighting remind me of Supernatural, too. I can't help but think they must have been aware of the connection and threw in a few shout-outs.
This is one of those times a cover surpasses the original, imo. It doesn't happen often out there, but when it does, you know it. Think Hurt covered by Cash, or The Man Who Sold The World covered by Nirvana. The heart beat from Lane during Geoff's feature section makes me teary EVERY time. Shout out to my Wayward Sibs!
I was wondering when this one would pop up on your watch list. 😁 It's one of my favourite Voiceplay tracks. Thanks for your enthusiasm for the music and artists and for bringing a bright vibe to our days with your videos. Hello from South Africa by the way. 👋🇿🇦
I am old enough to remember the original and song love this just as much. I love rock God Eliot Ness, but I really really love the old R&B soul sound that J brings to it. It’s a really nice contrast to Eli’s raspy rock God and Omars clear tones. (BTW, check out Huldra Draco’s channel for news on J. He is heading back East… and not as a baritone!)
Carry on wayward son has always been in the top 3 of my favorite songs. Then for the most awesome spectacular so well acted TV show supernatural of which I am a huge fan of was thrilled when they played this song. There is a version a duo of women titled neoni That they played in the final show of the Series. That would be 327 shows over 15 seasons. So I hold this to a very very high standard. Sadly it Really impress me but again Hi this song just mean so much to mePeriodic particularly with it being in supernatural I am extremely invested in it. Is a wonderful reaction voice plays wonderful. Have you seen the video of Virginia tech football team coming into their stadium to enter sandman? The stands start jumping.and it actually registers on the rector scale
This song brings me back to watching Supernatural on tv
"Geoff's voice is like a silver bullet..." Nice job tying it in to "Supernatural."

It's Geoff's bass lines in this one that impressed me the most.

Voice Play are awesome! Love Geoff's bass in this song. Love your reaction!

Loved how much you got into this song! Loving the return of the full antlers too... #DJAntlers
😂I agree about the antlers! ❤
This always makes me want to go rewatch some Supernatural.
Layne and Tony learned all they could while on the Sing Off and tours. They made the nine lights you see used here. (Can we say salad bowls?)
I just love it when you drop these little snippets of Info into the comments! Are they really? That’s what it always reminds me of but I just thought it was my imagination.
Omar just sounds so good with the guys. He could sing the phone book and I’d be sucked in.
Just gorgeous. VoicePlay sure knows how to make it fly.
Another brilliant reaction. You showed great restraint when Geoff first came in 😅. Then the end, you melted the same as I did. These guys are amazing .
I grew up with the original version and they just slay this cover. The harmonies are TIGHT!
I don't usually like cover arrangements of older songs, especially from this era of music when they have changes from original melodies. But they did such a fantastic job!
Everyone says that Voiceplay are Acapella, and there are no instruments, but I disagree, Lane swallowed a drum set, and Geoff ate a bass guitar!

@@Gael4ce Well, he ate SOME type of bass at least.
After hours at the Big Rapids Pizza Hut, (for the workers) Carry on my Wayward Son and Fly Like an Eagle by the Steve Miller Band would play while we cleaned up the restaurant and got ready to go home.
I'm sure Dean would love this version.
VP absolutely killed this arrangement!!!! ❤
Yep one of my favorites. Love the reaction. Thank you for my smile today.
As a Supernatural fan, I love this song. I think they did an amazing cover!
This is one of my favs from them. They nail every part of this song!💜🦌
As a massive fan of both Supernatural and VoicePlay, this one brings the feels for me! Loved your reaction! ❤❤
you haven’t seen their version of kiss yet have you? it’s amazing ❤🏴
They did an amazing job with this cover, love it! The perc is perfect, Rock God Eli blows my mind. Everyone was awesome. Thanks for the reaction!
This one I have to keep reminding myself that there aren't actually drums, it's just Layne killing it.
Happy birthday to Geoff. This is definitely one of my faves to put on Spotify and let my friends wonder who the heck is this, haha!
I recommend watching Omar on the voice tv show! He was amazing
Love love love this cover.
Honestly, I prefer this version over the original...no disrespect intended to Kansas! And I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction as always! 😂❤
SPNFamily represent! 😄I love this cover. ETA: The clothing and lighting remind me of Supernatural, too. I can't help but think they must have been aware of the connection and threw in a few shout-outs.
I expected those Winchester boys to walk in any second.
LOVE this one! So excited you got to it!

Shout out to my Wayward Sibs!
I listen to the original and I miss Eli and Geoff. It just isn't the same
Finally!! I have been waiting for this video and reaction like forever!! I love this! Keep it up dear DJ!!!

An alltime favourite❤
Have you done Queen in 5 minutes yet?
Awesome reaction. Now time for some Voctave
Great reaction ❤
Thanks 😊
the road so far:
It’s funny you didn’t actually say as much on this one as others… mostly because you are lip-singing as am I (but I get it. 😊)
