you've been on a roll with these videos. love them! thanks, Fran. do you realize how much your youtube vids have done to introduce people to slack key. your passion and dedication to kihoalu are a blessing to the music.
Very nice. I know that you enjoy playing this music, but I wish that it could give you the feeling that I get from listening to it. It's pure joy and happiness. Mahalo.
I think slack key, especially the sweet side of slack key, brings a lot of those feelings to the player as well as the listener. That's part of the special charm. As Ledward says, "Don't stress, jus' press." Fran

Hi Fran - I just love these videos. The music you produce from the guitar is beautiful. It gives me a lovely relaxed tropical feeling as I sit here looking out on a cold and rainy Irish morning. Thank you 👍👍
We're feeling a little Irish around here if cold and rainy is what it's about. But I've got slack key to keep me warm, I'm glad it's doing the same for you. Fran
Thank you, it's a lovely old song with many versions on UA-cam, mostly vocal arrangements. Uncle Ray Kane came up with this instrumental variation. @@franguidry Yes. I'm one of those annoying people that remembers names from long ago (though not so much anymore). If you remember the two Ethiopian sailors then we were in the same class, if not, then just the same barracks.
@@guzzijack9714 Don't remember Ethiopian sailors, but then I remember very little - that was over 50 years ago!! I'm certainly impressed that you can remember names from those days.
So nahenahe! Great smooth side-slipping technique and, yes, the bass is wonderfully clear. I am so grateful to Kumu Patrick Landeza for bringing the great Ray Kane to play gigs in Berkeley in the 1990s, igniting a passion for ki ho 'alu in the East Bay.
I sometimes feel bad that I came to Hawaiian music and slack key so late and missed out on so many opportunities, but on the other hand I'm lucky to have finally made the connection. Patrick was a great influence on me, I caught him when he was doing a lot of workshops and lessons and it was a vital part of my musical development. Fran
Beautiful as usual and a different but still rather lovely sound from the Wingert guitar rather than the Martin. May I ask which reverb you use in Reaper Fran?
I'm using Reaverbate, the algorithmic reverb that comes with REAPER. I've started downloading impulse files so I can try Reaverb but I haven't fooled with it yet. I create a separate track and set it up with a compressor and a reverb, then set a send from the guitar track to the effects track. Set the reverb to 100% wet, then control the amount of reverb with the volume knob on the effects track. I set the reverb lowpass filter around 5K hz and the highpass filter around 400 hz. I rely on the Kenny Gioia videos for my ideas on how to use effects, but there are so many that it can be frustrating finding the right one. Here's one where he's adjusting Reaverbate on an acoustic guitar: ua-cam.com/video/bVguIQTqClo/v-deo.html and here's one where he's using the separate effects track: ua-cam.com/video/pUYhRSJ4ao0/v-deo.html Fran
