How to clean the fretboard on your guitar. Here is a great tutorial that shows you a professional way of cleaning the fingerboard of your instrument - Навчання та стиль
How can someone let his guitar go in that status is beyond me.
my thoughts entirely :D
It's still dirty
Would this work on a maple fret board? I've heard lemon oil isn't good for maple? Thanks
I recently heard you can use almond oil to clean/condition the fretboard. Can a pro confirm or deny?
Unfortunately nearly all the almond oil in the common marketplace has been "processed to death" and lacks many of the trace components that make natural almond oil good for the wood. It is very difficult to find a good source of oil that mimics "natural" and contains the wood friendly elements. Use dmi Guitar Labs Fret Butter, it has many trace elements in it specifically for the feeding of you guitar fingerboard/ fret-board.
Also tung oil, and linseed oil polymerize over time and clog the pores of the wood with a varnish like residue fyi.
Gibson uses raw linseed oil. No need to scrape the board. It has oils and dirt from your hands. Naptha (lighter fluid) will remove this and not harm the guitar. Put sone on a clean cotton cloth (piece of bed sheet) and scrub the neck. Put seven or eight drops of raw inseed oil on the neck, rub with clean cotton cloth until fingerboard is coated, then wipe off excess. Watch Dave's World of Fun Stuff.
I would have scraped the heavy gunk off first and then used the fret butter. I don't see the point in wasting a good terry towel on that disgusting crap
Terry cloths are cheap. Scraping vintage finger boards removes material and devaluates these instruments and is gross negligence. After a number of scrapings you would have a scalloped fingerboard.

If you have someone who knows what they're doing they don't scrape through to the fretboard and damage it. It's pretty easy to overdo it and scrape into the wood but it's just as easy to only remove the gunk if you use proper technique
That is one disgusting fretboard.
Yeah, it was totally gross, his other guitar a Guild m80 was just as bad.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw that. It made me imagine a dude sitting and munching like Cheetos, chips, Snicker bars, etc. and jamming out to instructional videos and when watching reaching into his fave bag of snacks and then smearing the residue into the fingerboard . Just repeating this process for years and never bothering to clean it. I'm sure that's not how that went down, but it's just unimaginable that someone could continue to touch that thing on a continual basis and not get grossed out. The crud was almost as thick as the frets! Looks like the product is very effective though. Couldn't have asked to a better opportunity to demo.
It sure is an ugly fretboard.
Really dirty!🤢
My guitar frets never become THAT dirty!
Really, ya need that awful music to clean your frets?
