Uber Eats has the potential to be a global powerhouse. Being part of the well funded Uber empire has helped and it has given them a foothold in numerous cities around the world.
Jay P not everyone wants to download an app to their phone just to order food and a lot of restaurants do not want to work with a big company like Uber (or GH for that matter), it's one of the reasons why Grubhub is only #1 in 9 cities despite their size and nation presence. If Uber Eats drops your food off and your food is wrong, missing items or spilled all over the inside of the bag, people want to be able to call a live human and complain, not chat with an A.I. bot. Sure UE can get some tech savvy people to use their service, but the large portion of the market for people who want food delivered are 40+ years old who don't trust the same company that takes college kids to and from the bar to deliver their food.
Tom you lately have been bringing relevant and interesting topics to cover. The editing on this is not necessary to change viewpoints so much. Last week was not my favorite but this week was excessive. The delivery business is something that I see expanding so I see why the value is so high. Thanks as always.
Hey Tom I just want to let you know I love these videos so much they are the best thing on UA-cam. You make things so interesting and easy to digest and you’re so knowledgeable while coming off as friendly and helpful. Your passsion for this radiates and is contagious. Please don’t stop what you’re doing
Tencent would be great. They are the world's largest gaming company after all (www.polygon.com/2018/3/29/17172326/tencent-ubisoft-explained), with a range of investments and brands to make even EA and Activision jealous.
Tried GrubHub yesterday here in Columbus OH for the first time. Was pretty happy with the service. Only negative was that I ordered from a restaurant that is 5 minutes from the office. It took them 50 minutes to deliver my soup. I do love that they update me via text. My food was warm and yummy!!! I'll likely use them again during my busy days.
Thank you for coming back and giving us another chance. We want to deliver quality in every episode. We listen to comments and I thank you for chiming in. Thanks - Tom
Currently in Malaysia, the biggest company conducting this type of business is FoodPanda, with the other competitors such as Honeybee and Room Service catering towards specific types of products or demographics. For instance Honeybee helps in delivering goods from supermarkets, while Room Service focuses more on delivering food from high-end restaurants I’d say that Room Service is currently struggling heavily as their food delivery is essentially their only business while Honeybee at least has grocery delivery as an alternative revenue stream
Chaz - really good question. I think this is a red ocean if I’ve ever seen one. GrubHub is forced to roll up all of these companies to grow footprint faster. Every company will be trying to discount food delivery to compete with each other. The race will be which one can get the most cities and most restaurants and most drivers. GrubHub has the most restaurants at the moment. Uber has the most delivery drivers at the moment while Amazon seems to have the most efficient system but only in Seattle where they are testing. This is going to be a war!! Thanks - Tom
This was an excellent excellent episode Tom! So in depth and informational on some companies I knew little of and their services and upsides. I must agree that the frequent camera changing was a bit much for the eyes and video's appeal. Maybe, you guys can address that in the future. But, overall I appreciate the immense value given (pun intended).
I agree with you on the jumpy edit. We’ve been experimenting a bit and I think a little of it is more than we need. We always listen to you and we appreciate your comments. Thanks - Tom
Thanks as always Tom!! I am such a great fan of your case studies! This one helps me break my paradigms. Talking about those huge numbers! For me at this moment, it would be great to break the “wall” of 1 million dollar sales this year which is nothing compared to this. Of course my business is different and in another country. I have a lot to learn and develop, with your guide I know I will grow bigger and faster! 🙏
Thank you so much for such an extensive comment. My goal is to leave you better than I found you through great business advice that you can apply to your situation. Go and fly high! Thanks - Tom
Wow, Postmates is number one in Los Angeles? You wouldn't know it from the amount of deliveries you get as a courier but sounds like they could be an excellent undervalued acquisition for one of these companies.
I have the same feeling that you do. But the research reports show that when you add up all of Los Angeles from the valley to Pasadena to downtown to Southbay Postmates is #1. Thanks Tom
Doc look up CLOUDKITCHEN. Travis Uber former CEO is on board of directors. They specialize in renting out kitchens that run 24 hours and do on demand deliveries and have a lot of popular restaurants that use them.
I have to agree here. I've watched all of your videos and I found this one to be difficult to focus on at times. Only constructive criticism! The content is spot-on as always and you've really gotten comfortable in the role, Tom. Thanks for another great episode!
I beg to differ. The speed of the presentation matches the editing. It’s a matter of keeping up. Everything is as clear as it can or should be. It’s simply a crash course, otherwise we would have to watch this video for 1 hr
I would've liked this video and shared with my peers if the video talked about how staffs worked and how much they were paid compared to other competitors. Nonetheless, great video!!!
@Et Immortalem I dont think I'm the right person to be starting an app empire, but it would be interesting to know how the workers get paid. Because minimum wage is around $15 an hour in SF, I'm just thinking how they pay there workers. Do the company pay them? Cuz if some orders $20 worth of food, and the company gets 10% of the sale, and even if the company pays the delivery person the full 10%, thats just $2 for one delivery.
It would be super interesting to see the orders per capita per week/month as you expand from the city center out to the suburbs. When I lived in Santa Monica, I ordered via Grubhub every once in awhile, but I had a car, and it typically wouldn't be worth the $5-6 premium and the wait for delivery. It was almost always quicker to just drive somewhere. When I was living in Temecula, I NEVER ordered via one of these apps. There is less traffic than Santa Monica and so within a 5 -10 minute drive I had access to 50-100 restaurants. But now I am in Frankfurt, and I use public transport (and even if I had a car, drive thrus don't really exist until a few miles outside the center, and even then its only like Burger King and McDonalds). If I want a wide selection, without a high travel time (tram, train or subway), then the Apps are definitely the way to go. Here in Frankfurt I use: Deliveroo, Foodora, Lieferando, and Lieferheld.
I haven't seen GrubHub in europe yet, but uber eats is here, fighting local similar businesses like one called Takeaway. They could win big by focusing on dominating the US market, while competitors scatter there efforts across the globe. fighting on too many fronts never ends well.
I love it thanks! I think grubhub has a bright future. But I'm fully vested in other tech names as well (Shopify, Square etc.), but Grubhub always had a very attractive story to me.
DD will sell. They are far less superior and will not last the length of this war, and what's more is I think everyone know's this which increases their vulnerability. Amazon and GrubHub is a different story.
@@walmart7020 In my experience, the app has issues and is way less stream-lined compared to GrubHub. Because of this, they lose out on first time customers that are brought in by their promotions which fail to work at times. Also, at least in the places I've been in around the greater LA area, they seem to have overreached by not having as many options, sometimes 1 or 2 in well-to-do suburban cities. Instead of having those couple of options, it would be better to wait to market themselves until they obtained more partnerships because when potential customers are able to compare DD, GH, and Uber Eats, DD comes off looking less attractive. Just my 2 cents from experience.
Amazing and valueable business cases you bring to us. I really appreciate your effort Tom the business wizard. I would love to see something on Pharmaceutical business such as MCKESSON.
Same here in jakarta, Indonesia, food delivery services are so in. The main player is Go-Food by Gojek. Just wondering what type of restaurants that are popular in U.S based food apps? Here, they're likely to be street food or fast food chains, probably because of lower price & fast preparation
its hard to break the market leader in a city as these companies like grub hub force restaurants to sign exclusive deals or else they will make everything else expensive. therefore its difficult to penetrate an area in a short time without buying them out.
I feel you focused too much on the US market when comparing Grubhub with competitors. There is also Delivery Hero and they are leading global online food ordering with presence in over 40 countries. They don't have US presence, but I guess it's only a matter of time.
Actually no. Wikipedia is a summary and you never know the quality of the contributions. source media articles and company data and other information such as quarterly stock filings. Thanks - Tom
I like the show, but please, get some sort of interactive board/screen. Your audience's attention is more focused on everything you have written on the board than your presentation.
I'm too poor. I jusr shop at my local supermarket and just buy why i need. I feel ,like you are talking to people who make more money than me. I live on minimum wage. So maybe I will end up being the person delivering the food to the customer and not the one who can afford the service. But I still enjoy the videos
These food delivery companies are operating on a deeply flawed business model. They are terribly, terribly inefficient as well as costly to both diners and restaurants. This industry needs a Henry Ford or it will collapse on itself.
I think the company who takes care of the restaurants best wins the battle. You need restaurants on your app to sell food ! I like grubhub and ubereats. Despite their aspirations to take over the world I think Amazon is going to have their lunch eaten by the other two. Pun fully intended :)
Door dash is number one in many markets. This is going to be a war. In eight over and GrubHub is not the automatic winner. Time will tell. Thanks - Tom

This was an excellent excellent episode! So in depth, and Tom, you're such a natural now
I appreciate those kind words. Thanks - Tom
Do a case study about PHP! I would love To hear your story in detail!
In good time! Thanks - Tom
Yessssss!

That was very insightful, I hope you keep making more of these
This is truly the best channel for entrepreneurs and free valuable knowledge for everybody else
Appreciate your comment and support! Thanks - Tom
Could you analyze a company, which isn't only established in the US? What about the whole BAYER & MONSANTO Deal or Tencent from China? Would be great!
Good idea! Thanks - Tom
Go look at cold fusion he does amazing videos on company’s not just in us
Tencent would be great. They are the world's largest gaming company after all (www.polygon.com/2018/3/29/17172326/tencent-ubisoft-explained), with a range of investments and brands to make even EA and Activision jealous.

Hahah, that was actually a negative review.
Love this style of video. Went back to watch some older episodes and was turned off. Keep this quality up and i'll keep watching!
Thank you for coming back and giving us another chance. We want to deliver quality in every episode. We listen to comments and I thank you for chiming in. Thanks - Tom
Too much camera changing, maybe ? Thanks a lot for sharing !
I like this new setup
Without camera angle changes, it will be a boring video
I agree. Zooming in and out after every sentence was way too distracting.
Yea lol, every 4 words, the camera changes. WAYyyy too much
Great topic and I’m actually hungry and I’m going to try grub hub for the first time ever 👍🏼

This presenter is really good. Lots covered in a consumable way coz of how he engages and uses language.
I appreciate that. I work hard to make it good for you. Thanks - Tom
Tom this may be your best video yet!
I very much appreciate that. Thanks- Tom
Another awesome case study Tom! Thank you. Do you there is any way for one three companies to completely take over the food delivery market?
Chaz - really good question. I think this is a red ocean if I’ve ever seen one. GrubHub is forced to roll up all of these companies to grow footprint faster. Every company will be trying to discount food delivery to compete with each other. The race will be which one can get the most cities and most restaurants and most drivers. Bizdoc, one suggestion / request -: Please do a case study on Patanjali company of India. That will be interesting!
Love the new style Tom. A lot easier to follow and take lessons. Well done!
Thank you very much. Thanks - Tom
Thanks as always Tom!! I am such a great fan of your case studies!

i like how you're looking at the board more. i appreciate the skill.
Thank you for that - evolving nicely over time. Thanks- Tom
We do not say "mobie" in Australia.
We say "Eat Now" mobile app or "Menu Log" mobile app.
Thanks for that! I am dating myself with regard to cellular nicknaming. Thanks- Tom
Doc look up CLOUDKITCHEN. Travis Uber former CEO is on board of directors. They specialize in renting out kitchens that run 24 hours and do on demand deliveries and have a lot of popular restaurants that use them.
Thank you for the video, I always enjoy the Biz Doc analysis. I would like to see something about bootstrapped-only companies like BASECAMP. Thanks!!
never knew about this company thanks for sharing!
Glad to open up a new topic! Thanks - Tom
Same!
Love this very educational
The content is awesome!, like always Tom! Thanks much for your hard work. (The editing I feel was a bit too trigger happy...)
Thanks - we were experimenting with editing techniques. Thanks - Tom
Way too much editing on the camera's man. Really intense to watch at some points. Loved the intro though! :)
Ok ok we hear you! Editor has been informed. We listen! Thanks - Tom

Brillant work Doc. You explanations make understanding business easy.
Appreciate that very much! Thanks- Tom
Have you ever done a video on picking stocks?
Excellent study, thanks for the information.
You are Welcome! Thanks - Tom

I love your comment in the balance you are keeping in the market. Thanks - Tom
@valuetainment do Spotify or Izetle next!
Great suggestions!! Thanks - Tom
Great content Doc! Greetings from Berlin, Germany! :)
Danke!! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks - Tom
PLEASE do a video on "IHOb" and its history
Wonder if Door Dash will be the next acquisition from GrubHub or UberEats
That will take a stack of money but you bring up a very good point. Thanks - Tom

***DO QUIKTRIP!***

That is a great suggestion. Let me think about it. Thanks - Tom

I believe you. Thanks for leaving a comment. Thanks - Tom
Could you please do the rise of Salesforce please!! I love your videos!
That would be a great case study. Thanks- Tom
Never heard of GrubHub (or Seamless, or any of the companies mentioned). What is it that they actually do? Do they deliver meals to your home?
Thanks
Please do a case study on IBM
Amazing and valueable business cases you bring to us. I really appreciate your effort Tom the business wizard.
I would love to see something on Pharmaceutical business such as MCKESSON.
Great suggestion! Thanks - Tom

mipmipmipmipmip what you're into?
Someones' a fan of Formula 1. #44 & #77 for the win!
I was surprised to hear that doordash is number one in San Diego. Is that still true? Everyone I know uses ubereats...
its hard to break the market leader in a city as these companies like grub hub force restaurants to sign exclusive deals or else they will make everything else expensive. therefore its difficult to penetrate an area in a short time without buying them out.
True that!!! Thanks- Tom
Thanks you sir ... All about your blessings and my hard & smart works....
Back at you sir! Thanks - Tom
Good learning experience.
Grub, is pay no div. I see no gain in stock price will go up, only base on growth. I think this company will go down.
I feel you focused too much on the US market when comparing Grubhub with competitors. There is also Delivery Hero and they are leading global online food ordering with presence in over 40 countries. They don't have US presence, but I guess it's only a matter of time.
Good point - Thanks Tom
Not a single "Damn" in this Video :D :D
I bought Grab from Asia. Seems to have way more momentum and way less competition
Yo tom where do you research all these facts?wikipedia?
Actually no. Wikipedia is a summary and you never know the quality of the contributions. source media articles and company data and other information such as quarterly stock filings. Thanks - Tom
Do one study on @Fiverr please.
I like the show, but please, get some sort of interactive board/screen. Your audience's attention is more focused on everything you have written on the board than your presentation.
Could you do a biz doc on supercell.
I interesting idea! Thanks - Tom
i would love this too!

I can definitely do that. Thanks - Tom
These food delivery companies are operating on a deeply flawed business model. They are terribly, terribly inefficient as well as costly to both diners and restaurants. This industry needs a Henry Ford or it will collapse on itself.
Case studies always get me fired up.
New viewers get me fired up. Thank you so much. Thanks - Tom

Would not surprise me! Thanks - Tom

Great suggestion! Thanks - Tom
$9B is pretty high to me
I agree with you, especially for a company that does not have a dominant market share yet. Thanks - Tom
cool and loved it
Thanks- Tom

There you go! More reason why it should not be $9 billion in valuation. Thanks - Tom
