Would love to see a test in areas with potential obstacles. Won't be flying far, but having a stable connection despite obstacles (like trees) will give more confidence and peace of mind.
I’ve been out to a bit over 5 kilometres with mi mini 2, but I’d pushed it past the automatic return to home point. I then hung over the mountain I went to for a couple of minutes looking at a small fire on another mountain and over the other side of the mountain I was over. I then hit return to home and let it fly by itself. When it got to about 1200 metres it started descending by itself (auto landing had kicked in). Luckily I’d checked again on my screen. I h went to manual mode and kept pushing forward. By the time I’d got about 250 metres the reading of the battery was at zero percent and it was starting to descend again and I had to put in up input to keep it going. I still managed to get it home luckily. I think that DJI purposely makes the reading lower than it actually is so that they can say that for the most part their drone’s always returned safely unless people were doing silly things, like me lol. You’ll find that it takes a few charges before you’ll get the full charge, for some reason batteries need a few charges before they can get their full potential, something to do with the chemistry.
That was a good test, the MIni 4P seems to have better signal than the Mini 3P. I always let it return to home when it asks to, trust the drone. Great video, and thanks for sharing Shawn.
Would nice to see a full range test, how far away can it really go! I’ll have to do it. Mind should be here in a couple days, Got to love big open Canada! 🇨🇦
Did a range test with my Mini 3 Pro shortly after I bought it. It traveled 3,200 feet until I started to lose signal strength when it got down to two bars. There were some trees and hills in the rural area I tested it in. Three miles out from your location...pretty darn good. Extended antennas and a robust operating system helps.
Actually it's all about the terrain. Trees and hills are gonna deter ANY class of drone into signal interference. When you got nothing but water in front of you you're golden, that's where range tests should be done.
5K, that's really good! Is that on a stock battery? Also, question about waypoints: Can you set a waypoint, say, 1km away and have it fly to that or is there a distance limit?
By pushing a drone. I saw on video the right controller in your hand you can't touch and push upward, but in video the drone cointinue forward. .this automatic directly forward 😊
Enjoying the mini pro4 ‘lessons’. Mine should be here today. A little worried on scratching the screen as mine will be in and out of a pack during hikes. Bought one of those protective flip up covers. How do you feel about the screen… does it seem ‘delicate’? Thanks again. Good flying🤙🏼
The first actually good range test... points towards the drone almost ideally at all times and goes in a straight line.. well done Have you done the same with a mini 3 pro? curious if you got data in that location
How about a range test where you stay on shore and have someone take your drone out on a boat 5km from shore and then see if you can launch the boat-bound drone from the shore and have it continue to fly away from you?
I'm too afraid to try this with my new mini 4. I went over water at the Salton Sea, but near the shore, soaring along the shoreline, and I was still uneasy.
hi, just a quick question. On your test you are flying straight from where you took off right ? then why is the homepoint (H) is showing on the left middle on your screen recording, I was thinking it should be in the middle? Did you turn right in the middle of flight ? It's a very good information on range and signal strength test. Thanks
Nice video first one like this do u think there is a battery issue with the larger battery on mini 4? Do u think u can get the same ranch as the air 3?
thanks great video. I am hoping somebody will do some sort of test from the LED light underneath the drone apparently it’s very bright maybe used for search and rescue
Just got my 4 PRO, tried a range test , with dissapointing results unfortunately … I only got 1000m then the signal strength of the controller got red and video was “hacky “.. got a bunch of warnings that the drone would not make it home, I chickened out and brought it home.. (tried to get it to my parents house 3000m from me ) … my question is, has anyone any answer how it can differ that much ? Have you guys calibrated or updated something to make it fly those reaches ? Good video !
This is kind of disappointing because DJI states on the website that the DJI Mini 4 Pro has a maximum flight distance of 18 km with Intell. Battery but a 25 km with intell. Batt. Plus…… 5 km over water? Thats a bummer
This sounds like a dumb question, but as a first timer, how do you grab it out of the air? It keeps avoiding my hand. I tried sport mode to turn off the warning sensors, but it still avoids my hand. My dog wants to eat it, so I have to figure out how to launch and catch it in the air or he will eventually destroy it.
I was asked by DJI to leave a "new" customer appraisal, but after me thinking and composing...DJI refused my text because it "was too long", so here goes instead: Like my Mini 2, this brand new Mini 4 is generally extremely good so far. I love the new "all-in-one" RC 2 controller. Great kit and the new screen image is excellent in my opinion. Fly-speed is faster, but sadly the fly-range does not seem improved! It may even be a tad shorter than my old M2, not better for sure! The 20Km range-claim is brazenly fraudulent, I say maybe ~5km! The M4 arms folds easily, but I don't like the fiddly prop-guard. (M2 wrap-guard is easier!). The M4 bag should be made a tad more generous. (M2 got a better sized bag) The silly two "joysticks" give me no joy! They stick up too much ending with an absurd "war-club". It would be better with 1/3 of the height, and with a simple "mushroom top". Frankly, why can't it be made (like others have done) to screw loose (without falling out!) and then pushed down and stored fixed inside?. Finally, my old cheerful looking DJI AIR anno 2018 is still the best looking drone around. Thank you. 🙂
I would like to see how it performs in urban area. What you were testing is not a usual use case. My mini 3 pro simply sucks in urban area or suburbs. Frankly I see no reason to upgrade from mini 3 to mini 4. The best OcuSync is telephoto lens on your drone. So save money and get Air 3 or Mavic 3 pro instead.

Interesting! RC 2 is much better compared to its previous version (DJI RC), maybe due to adjustable external antenna and O4. Do you have RC-N2 controller? I'm curious about its signal strength.
It doesn’t matter what mode you have it in during a return to home it comes home at a default speed. That is most efficient. You can push on the stick to make it fly faster, but then indeed you will burn through the battery quicker.
I found that the Mini 4 Pro performs poorly against the wind which drains battery life very quickly. I did a controlled test with the new drone and my Mini 3 Pro and found that the 3 travels 4 to 5 mph faster under the same conditions. And the 4 Pro gave me "battery overcurrent" warnings even in "normal" mode. I'm returning the 4 and will continue to make my Air 3 my default drone even though it's substantially bigger.
that's impressive. 5km is way more than i would be comfortable with flying. Curious why you flew downwind outbound; safer to fly into the wind on the outbound leg.
Yes, looks like "amateur hour", never do a range test downwind ! Also when (finally realizing) there was headwind on the way back the altitude should have been lowered lot (no signal issues apparently) to mitigate its effect.

@@anderssigfeldt335 so this was in CE mode? 3700 on mini pro 4?
@@connor25 yes but mini 3 pro my very best ever
I did over 10km distance with my Mavic 3 in CE mode in UK.. Proof on my (NON Monetised) channel.
This guy is a chicken because you don't need to be concerned until you get down into the high 50-something percentage battery remaining...
He was over water. I would do the same as he did.
Lol did you see the battery dropping on the way home? If I had waited till 50%, I would not have made it back.
@@AirPhotographynot to mention if you were coming against the wind. Also your 1st range test. Need to know the limits of the drone before risking throwing away $2k (in Canadian dollars)
Love mine too……but its China……….never held accountable………..ever.
