it’s crazy how alejandro g inarritu, yorgos lanthimos, and denis villueneve (future best director nominees) were all nominated and lost. in a better world was great though
Best Foriegn Language Film: "Biutiful" - Mexico, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" - Sweden, Niels Arden Oplev "I Am Love" -Italy, Luca Guadagnino "In A Better World" - Denmark, Susanne Bier *(WINNER) "Incendies" - Canada, Denis Villeneuve
Saw the movie today and i was just bowled over ...Amazing movie and it goes into my list of "best movies of all time" ....saw incendies yesterday its a good movie but "in a better world " is the best movie of 2010 and i must say this its far far better than "king's speech"
its weird how denis villenueve, yorgos lanthimos, and alejandro gonzales all have better careers than susanne bier. Granted I know she won an emmy for the night manager, but her movies have been flops recently especially serena. Denis rose up and got nominated for best director for arrival this year and is directing blade runner 2049, yorgos also got nominated for best original screenplay for the lobster this year too, and Alejandro has two consecutive director wins, an original screenplay win, and a best picture win.
This is such a shitty comment. Her Danish films are great, and while she may not have reached the mainstream heights of the ppl you mentioned, I wouldn't say her career is objectively worse just different. She's had a much longer career than most of the ppl you've mentioned and has always done exactly what she wanted to do. How many FEMALE filmmakers get to make as many different kinds of movies she has AND has made some as great as she was capable of doing (After the wedding is fantastic)
I love how they call it "foreign LAGUAGE film" as though everything was an expansion of America. In every other country in the world it's called "best foreign film".
I don't understand the objection. The Academy has divided it into films that are in English (the official language of the country the Academy resides in) and non-English. But you'd prefer them to divide it into American and non-American? Why, exactly? Incidentally, almost for certain if they did this the winner most years would be an English language film from another country.
@@WalterLiddy ... because most viewers at the Acadamy and at home do not want to read subtitles. Lazy people for sure. "In a Better World" the people would appreciate the original language expressed while reading. 'Seven Samurai' or Forbrydelsen, Tampopo or The Hunt? It would be a loss (Amelie) not to sense the original.. There is hope, Parasite was the first foreign language film to win as Best Film.
@malvitz You think is horrible because maybe you are not use to watch the most controversial themes in a film like Biutiful did. I liked it because you go deep into a man's mind as he struggles with his forthcoming death. Maybe you're right about Biutiful not being the winner, but I don't think it was horrible.
I am also curious what those who didn't like this film or Crash think are great films. I thought both were richly deserving of the Oscar, as apparently the Academy did too. However, I often disagree with the Academy, so that alone does not mean I am right and they wrong or vice- versa
Should have been Outside The Law from Algeria Winter In Wartime from The Netherlands Life Above All from South Africa In A Better World from Denmark Incendies from Canada Winner In A Better World
As a Dane, I can safely say that any of the other nominees should have won. In a Better World is fine, but very predictable and preachy. Not innovative like Dogtooth or gut-punching like Incendies or Biutiful.
WHY DO THEY ONLY SHOW A PICTURE OF THE MOVIE WHEN IT IS THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE MOVIE?? AND NOT A COMPLETE SCENE LIKE FOR THE OTHER NOMINEES OF OTHER CATHEGORIES???
@ChoboReviews I've seen Dogtooth, and it doesn't have the things that an Oscar has.. Susanne Bier's In a Better World is really the best of all those! :D Denmark will has done and will do it again! :) Denmark for the win!

Ahmad Almaiman true
i thought incendies was the best among the five
Me too
Incendies was probably the best film I have seen in some years. So I'm shattered that it didn't win.
Incendies was robbed. One of the most gut wrenching films ever made
Lies again? Jules Rimet vs World Cup
Incendies was a masterpiece and Biutiful was also good.
Incendies deserved at least 5 oscars even is not nominated
it’s crazy how alejandro g inarritu, yorgos lanthimos, and denis villueneve (future best director nominees) were all nominated and lost. in a better world was great though

incendies deserved it imo
S MInt it might have been more popular than
incendies , you are the real winner 🏆
Shes amazing!!! I met her last week and she was lovely!
Shout out to her. She's uber talented, and I hope she gets more money to do even better work. She has a vision for sure.
Kynodontas being oscar nominated is crazy, like a movie like that
All great films that year.
Yes
I finally know how to pronounce Denis Villueneve's name.
Imagine winning an Oscar only for it to be given to you by Russell fucking Brand
Outstanding film. foreign films are always the best.
She really deserved it. Suzanne and the two boys created an amazing film
2010 waa a great international year... All of those were top notch movies.
This was one of the greatest films I have ever seen, much better than Incendies, unlike the
previous comment, in my humble opinion
@Diego Pisfil or Biutiful
The young boys deserved nominations for Best Supporting Actor
And Life, Above All deserved Best Foreign Language Film nomination
My best friends was in In a better world - Christian played by William Nilson! =D The movie was great as well!
"my performance as the queen was much more realistic than Colin Firth's as the king." LOVE THIS HAHAHA
good year for foreign movies :)
Incendies was the best
I'm still shocked after all this year
incendies is the best movie of the 21st century.

Susanne Bier works better with males than females it's true look at brothers that was an amazing film aswell.

Very good movie from Susanne Bier.
In a Better World has great screenplay.
If that was nominated would it be Adapted or Original?
Not as perfect as Biutiful from México directed by Alejandro González Innaritu
I love Susanne Biers blue dress!!!
I also like the movie!!! :)
Dame Helen Mirren is a fucking precious creature...ohhh i love her...what a classy lady she is ❤️
Russ's spanish was good. I know he dated a Spaniard for 6 years, then kept this spanish woman around for a while. it shows.
Who else is here just to see Yorgos?
SHE SPEAKS FRENCH!!!!!!!!!!
@dinasztie i agree they were the best of the night. love them both.
I never saw any of these films but i thought Biutiful was gonna win as it had another nomination, should check these all out.
Dogtooth was so good
It should also have been nominated for Best Picture, Original Screenplay, Director, and Actress (Trine Dyrholm).
Yea
And Best Soundtrack.
Oh and any of the boys for Best Supporting Actor

I don’t know if what they said is true or not. Either way I’ll never look at this the same way again with Russel Brand
