I can't believe that twice now, I paid $10 at the dealer to get these batteries replaced. I actually already have these same 3V batteries at home for my digital bathroom scales. I never knew that's what wàs inside the fob, or how to open it. Thanks you very much. I won't be getting overcharged anymore!
Awesome video and great instructions! Thanks so much for sharing this information. I changed the battery in 2 of these car keys and saved myself about $80 at the key shop. Thanks!!
Great tip. The key acts as the screwdriver, when placed into the fob slot shown here. Twist the key to separate the fob, and access the battery. If hard to get out, prise out the battery with the key. Easy.
Thank you for the life hack! I watched another (older) tutorial on how to pry off my KIA fob with a dead battery, but that video showed an older version for KIA models up to the year 2012. So I found this video after doing another search on UA-cam. I was initially tempted to use a flat head test pen screwdriver but its sharp head will cut into the plastic material. The metal key itself is the best tool for the job and it's already with me. It's large enough to fit into the rectangular recess, its blunt and also provides enough torque to twist off the clam shell without damaging the plastic. The other video also mentioned that the slimmer CR 2025 lithium battery can also replace the CR2023. I had a pack of 2025s but decided to search my tool drawer if I had an unused CR 2023 lying somewhere. What do you know, I found one with the protective seal still intact and it registered about 2.86 volts on my cheap multimeter. The button cell must have been a few years old, but that will do until I replace it with a fresh CR 2023 on the next battery change. 😀
Thanks for that. We just had a battery fail and I didn't realise it was so easy to replace. We even had a couple of the right batteries in the house so I replaced them for both car keys.
Almost half of the length went in the ground. If possible, keep the brace tight against the fence post and it should go in between the post and the concrete.
Thank you. Simple, easy to follow, and no annoying music drowning out the instructions!
Glad it helped!
It was so much easier than I thought it would be! Thank you for your clear explanation and visuals!
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you! Really helpful. Some dealers will try to sell you a new one for $100's so this really helped.
Glad it helped!
