Nice comparison. Something people that watch these kind of videos should understand is that when eq pots are set at 5 or kind of half way to compare just the speakers in this case, two things happen. One is that that particular setting may favor one speaker and second, almost for sure that’s not the best setting for any of the speaker. That just gives you an idea of what to expect from the speaker. That said: I have few amps I’ve built from fenderish cleans, Marshall inspired circuits, Matchless inspired, Hiwatt, etc. I also have few cabs with different speakers where I’ve tried a lot and have to say that the WGS ET90 is my favorite overall speaker. It can sound great with all my amps and the fender tones are great with it. Deep but controlled bottom end, very present but not overly bright or harsh and doesn’t sound scooped but not mid focused either. About the two just compared on this video I’ll say I prefer the Jensen cleans and the weber driven but won’t use any of those myself. Great playing man. Blessings.
Great job Jack.Weber speaker's are awesome. I have a 50's tweed 40 watt with weber high power speaker's that was built by Singletone, the best amp on the planet. Thanks for the demo.
I'm surprised how much better the Jensen sounds to my ear. It's got more headroom and much more jangle. As a chicken picker and country centered player I think the Jensen just fits what I do more, if I was wanting something a little more rock n roll it would probably lean me in the other direction. I like the warmth of the other speaker, but just prefer the Jensen.
Weber's take a bit to break in but once they do WoW I have a Classic alnico in my 61 Princeton and it took about 20 hour's to sound better but after 40 to 50 Hallelujah what a great amp Sixty years old too it's amazing
I have the Weber 10150T in my 64 handwired. You make great case for loving both speakers with your outstanding playing. I like my Weber, it sounds like a bigger amp.
Once I discovered Weber and the articulation of their speakers, hand-made, no other speaker works for me. Once I heard alnico, ferrous always sounds too percusiive to my ear. To each their own but, Weber speakers sound best to me. Picking the correct one also makes a big difference.
@@Modwiz125I just bought a Weber 12F150 that I am going to put on a VOX screen with a Celestion Greenback as a couple and a VOX C15 head...let's see what the result is
Not enough comments here about your awesome playing! If I could sound like your first sample, I wouldn’t be looking for a different guitar, amp, or speaker! With your Tele, I prefer the Jensen; with the SG the Weber does seem better. Thanks for the shootout in any case!
@@JackFossett Thanks !! BTW. I prefer the Jensen. I have a custom built hand-wired '59 Bassman 2 x 10" combo with (2) Jensen P10R. Post inverter master volume and internally bridged bright and normal channels. Sounds wonderful, as you can well imagine.
I recently got a 68 Princeton Reverb and I’m considering this speaker for it. Curious how it would sound in that amp given it’s already bassier. Also torn between the 25 watt and 50 watt. Does the 50 give that much more headroom?
Finally picked up my 65 PRRI and the stock speaker was fine, but the harsh top end was hard for me to control. I have put a Celestion Gold 10 in there and so far so good. It does make the amp slightly less sparkly, but what I gain in flexibility is worth it. The only downside is since I am only a home player the added volume requires some adjustment. But bedroom breakup is not happening on this amp with the stock speaker anyway so it is a pedal platform for the dirt and for that I really like the 10" speaker and OD pedals.
Indeed and some pedals you can use to sort of attenuate Crank the amp some and bring the output down on the drive I just moved to a place that's not as sound proof as my old house Miss that Kingtone Blues Power is a great pedal for that
@@JackFossett it’s a Mojotone kit. I’ve heard really good things about it. I did their Champ kit (5F1) a few months ago and it came out great. Fun to build, great sound, and cheaper than buying one.
Hi Jack, can you make a review of the Tone Master deluxe reverb? And maybe compare it to a real tube deluxe reverb? Great video again, I prefer the Jensen. Thanks!!
Would love to if I can! I've been more eyeing the Tone Master Twin actually, there seems to be less content out there for that one and I no longer have my Deluxe Reverb.
I replaced the excellent stock vintage Jensen P10R in my 1960 Gibson GA-18T, with a Weber 10F150, and it sounds MUCH better. Louder, more bass, stronger mids, smoother highs. I have a Weber 12F150 in my Deluxe Reverb clone (hand wired), and it sounds much better than the Italian P12R that came with it, which sounded pretty good itself. The thing about these Weber speakers, is that they take some breaking-in time to sound their best. They are Ted Weber's version of Jensen vintage C10N and C12N, two of the best sounding speakers ever made..? Ted was always modest though, and told me to get my vintage Jensen speakers re-coned, rather than buy clone from him, even though he made more money selling his speakers than re-coning. ANYways, that is a great sounding Weber speaker, and really brings-out the tone in that Princeton. David Wilson at Tonequest got a Princeton Reverb with an original C10N, and said it was easily the best sounding PR he had ever heard or played through. To me those vintage Jensen (and Weber clones) bring out the best in Fender amps, as demonstrated in this video. Great playing and tones as always, thanks Maestro Fossett....!
Agreed and when I got my old brown Princeton it had a brand new Weber Classic ten I was seriously having my doubts about it till a few months later when it finally broke in And now much love for it Something people don't sometimes realize Marshall is even worse about the break in Stupidly got rid of a new one back in the 90's because of that
Late to comment, but great video and tasteful playing. The Weber sounds a LOT better to me... fuller, more balanced, and generally more musical. I didn't mind the Jensen played clean with the Telecaster, but the speaker break up with higher gain is distracting to me. Not bad sounding, but front and center. The Weber just sounds good with both guitars, clean, with overdrive, and with speaker break up... very smooth and even. Well done.
Surprised to hear myself saying this, but the Jensen sounds more like what I expect from a blackface. It might be a bit fizzy on top, but I really like that scoop in the low mids and the sparkle it provides. Might be different in the room, but here in your recordings I don't sense a loss of low end at all in the Jensen. The Weber is most definitely more pronounced at 500-800Hz, and has a creamier, tweed like sound. It sounds more similar to my Carr Sportsman with this config, which ain't a bad thing! If I were using the amp on stage, Weber all day long. For clean tone recording I would stick with the Jensen. I second the idea of trying a Warehouse speaker in there!
The question is "why are you surprised?" If you frequent TGP or TDPRI looking for advise on gear, you get your head filled mush... usually by undercover sales reps posing as regular Joes trying to drum up hype about their products.
I also found the Jensen to be fizzy and spikey,so swapped it for a Eminence Allesandro, because many people said it was a great speaker for this amp. I hated it,so ripped it out and tried a Jupiter 10-SC. This was a very good improvement over the Jensen, and miles better than the Allesandro. Then,I tried a Fat Jimmy 10" ceramic, and it smoked the Jupiter. I thought I was in heaven, until somebody told me to try a Eminence 1028K. I did,and it's the last speaker I'll ever put in this amp.
@@jfar3340 Have never tried the 10" C Rex,but did like the 12" version in my Blues Deluxe, but sold the amp. I'm sticking with the Eminence 1028K,for my Princeton. Absolutely dig it,and have quite an assortment of unused 10" speakers.
@@iuchilton For me,and a $100 later,it was not a big enough improvement over the stock Jensen. For cleans,I found it to be better, but it did not agree with a few of my drive pedals. I have a 12" GA in my Gries 5,and it's wonderful with everything I throw at it.
From Leo: I like the Weber. Nothing wrong with the Jensen either. I am generally a pretty clean player. My go to speaker for 12 inch is the Eminence Cannabis Rex. Very smooth and mellow at most volume settings. I use them in combo amps and also in my 2 X 12 Cab. I have nothing that uses a 10 inch, so I could not say how it would work in your Princeton.
In my 72 PR the Weber 10F150T was too dark overall. I had to push the treble and I still felt like the clarity wasn't there. I play with clean tones and occasionally some light OD with a DOD 250. I had a Jensen P alnico in there for s little while. Nice highs but thin overall and lacked volume. Then I tried the Celestion Gold Alnico. Yes! this has the solid bass, good mids and the clear highs I was looking for. It's as loud as the Weber too. I can run the treble on 6 now instead of 9. All 5 strat positions are awesome. (using D. Allen rock n blues).
I'm surprised by the comments. I think the weber sounds a lot better. Alnico just has this crispy, static crunch on top of everything that bothers me. I have the knotty pine delixe reverb and it comes with a fuggin 90 watt celestion cream alnico speaker that I always thought sounded flubby in the bass, and like a crunchy fizzle like static sound above the notes with any kind of overdrive pedal. It's a 320 dollar speaker but today I just couldnt take it anymore and hooked it up to my 10 inch weber ceramic in my 1973 princeton reverb. The best sounding amp ever. Well, the deluxe hooked to the princeton weber sounded almost just like my princeton. So now I've got a 145 dollar weber 12F150 coming and I'm pretty excited. I hope I have the same tone as my princeton but with the deep bass thump the 12" celestion had. I also hooked the deluxe to a 12" celestion G12H 30watt, and it sounded better than the celestion cream, and it still had the thump, so the thump probably comes from the 12" size. Man I'm at 10:40 in your video as i type and there's that unpleasant high pitched fizzle sound from the alnico. And now we're at 11:30 and back to the smooth sound of ceramic lol. It's crazy that people prefer the alnico. It sounds harsh and dry. Thanks for the video, good playing and good recording 👍
Just remember some speaker's especially Weber's take a while to break in but once they do it's 👍 Some builder's offer a break in service for extra but it's good to know I bought a new Marshall 4-12 in the 90's and said WTH and sold it stupidly cause of that
@@LA-zc9rg I have watched the video, but just like Matt Rourke missed this detail. I watched the intro again, and checked the video description, both obvious places for the speaker wattage to be noted. Turns out it isn't mentioned until around the 5 minute mark, after an intro, playing, and more talking. It also would have been useful if someone replied to Matt's comment, rather than leaving it hanging for 2 months.
@@rossvanuatu2666 Maybe we watched it on levels, caught it 1st time through. Probably because I own the amp and I’m not crazy about the Jensen. So I’m actively seeking a replacement.
@@LA-zc9rg I'm in the same boat regarding the stock speaker, still wondering whether or not a 50W Weber would be better for a little extra headroom. 25W Weber is definitely an improvement, however I had not considered the 10F150T prior to watching this video, I was thinking of getting the 10F150.
I put a Weber 12f150t in my '69 Princeton Non-Reverb and love it. I didn't like the sound of the Jenson in the video when breaking up with the SG. Jensen sounds ok with the Tele to my ear, but the Weber was definitely the all around better speaker. Nice riffs btw!
You just sold me on that weber, I'm hoping this comparison is pretty much parallel for the Deluxe Reverb, I kinda find the jensen lagging on that amp and I've been looking to upgrade and I've seen tons of accolades for the Weber, so I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy that speaker :) Thanks mr.fosset!
Jack, love your comparison videos, but I have a problem remembering which speaker I liked when you play one for 5 minutes and switch to another for 5 minutes. Could you possibly edit in a way where you play for 10-15 seconds on each one so I can retain what I just heard?
I would use a Eminence Cannabis Rex without hesitation but it would be interesting to hear the amp in person with a Vox Blue, Eric Johnson and Alessandro signature speakers as well.
Heyo Jack... Lately I've been obsessing about low watt Alnico types and wuz wonderin'... Doesn't Weber make this sort of thing and had you tried this type, or Celestion Blues, etc. ...also in times past folks've had great success with high power types in low watt amps ie Rivera-era Super Champs w/ EV 12L's and so on.... Love to your family and... cheers
The jensen sounds fuller, the weber more mid focused. To sound beautiful: jensen. To make these 15w cut through the mix: weber. I like the jensen WAY better for a blackface tone. You just need to roll off the tone of the guitar a bit to make that fizzyness cooler.
Interesting, I had the opposite interpretation. I found the Weber to sound fuller and prettier with more emphasis on the midrange and bottom end balancing the highs.
Hey Jack apologies if you’ve done this video already and I missed it. I’m trying to decide between a Princeton with a 10” speaker vs a 12” inch. Sweetwater has both for the same price. My main focus is on recording these days though I used to play out weekly and plan to again when I release my next album. . I have a telecaster with a humbucker in the bridge. My main influence is Johnny Marr and bands like REM and Radiohead as well as Dick Dale. I like a little dirt but high gain is not a big priority for me. My thinking is the 12 “would give me a bit more headroom. Ideally I’d just get a Vibrolux but they’re simply too loud to track guitar in my apartment which is the plan for this year. . I’m definitely a rock and roll guy though, so when I do play live with a drummer I like to be able to hold my own without the amp completely breaking up. Would the 12” help in that regard or should I just get a regular Princeton and buy a Vibrolux in a few years for my live setup? I’d love to get both but I’m a one amp, one electric guitar, one acoustic guy right now on my budget. I know there are amps that are cheaper and supposedly can get a fender clean and a Vox chime and a Marshall overdrive all in one combo but my experience with recording is if I want a specific sound it’s best to get that right from the amp and save a lot of time and headaches turning knobs and EQs in a futile attempt to get THAT sound. I learned this the hard way through making five records. As you know what people think sounds fine or close enough at the guitar store doesn’t always compete in a studio envy where a good mic and console catches every little nuance. Really appreciate your channel. There’s a glut of these on UA-cam and very few of them are up to this standard. Appreciate your help.-Sherman
Linked below is a music video from a few years back which shows my basic guitar tone and style. I used.a Vox for years but really want the Fender sound now. Sorry for the big comment blasts. I’m sure you’re busy so no rush getting back to me. I’ll make sure to head over to your Patreon when I get my next paycheck. ua-cam.com/video/WQRW_CbxhjU/v-deo.html
Ya know its hard to say between a 12" and a 10" in the Princeton really because a lot of it also depends on what type of speaker you go with. Conceivably it could give you a bit more headroom, but if you have a higher watt, open sounding 10" vs a lower watt, aggressive 12", it may not get you there -- that being said, a lot of people mod Princetons to 12" speakers and love it so its definitely worth looking into.
@@dahliafiend that would be cool! If you want a big wide open sound with medium breakup maybe go with a 12” version and consider a speaker like the 12” version of this, the Weber 12F150t. For a big open sound with a 10” the 10F150 works great which I’ve kept in mine or the Eminence Ragin Cajun
@@dahliafiend cabinet size makes a difference as well You will get more out of a 12 but not as much as you would think I got a Princeton and the external out to hook up a different cab when needed and 2-12's make the difference Cheers
Hey Jack. Really like your channel. Thanks for all you do. I just bought a like new 2021 Princeton Reissue "Limited Editiion". Actually I was a bit surprised when i got it home to find out that Limited Edition meant it had a 12inch Jensen Special Design, made in Italy. I initially thought I would put the Weber 10F150T in it after watching your video. I know this will be hard to comment on, but what would you think about putting in a 12inch Weber (like the 10F150T) assuming they make one?
To my ears the Weber comes across more neutral in my headphones. The Jensen comes across with more character and richer. So I think the Jensen fits UA-cam audio better in this video. It just gives the impression of a richer soundstage. How it sounds and feels to the player in the room is all that counts in the real world though 🤷♂️
Ok Jack. To me the Jenson sounds warmer, and smoother. (I dont know if the words "creamier", and more "rounded" are the correct terms, but i would describe it that way). The Weber is a little cleaner/brighter, but sounds thin and lacks bottom ...possibly that could be toned in differently to compensate for that? On the other hand, the Weber has a nicer quality drive when breaking up, and more edge or bite (which i like), but the fact that its breakin up earlier makes me think it will have less clean headroom, on an already small amp. And ide 'assume' that a more bitey/edgy drive could be achieved with the right drive pedal anyway. I really liked the Jensen in this shootout, for its prettier sounding clean (1st example/Tele). Im soon to buy a 65 PRRI. It will be my 1st (Full) valve amp in 35yrs of playing. I had a chance to purchase the FSR 'Fawn' Princeton with the G12M Celestion Greenback, (for same price as the standard 65). Apparently its a beautiful tone. But after much though, i decided to save up for the standard one, as thats the right tone they are famous for. Then in a year or so, i can upgrade speakers if i want something "more". And in that case i would look at 12" options like in this FSR run. Ive wondered how the Deluxe Reverbs 12" Stock speaker (jenson 12??) would sound in the Princeton too. As for cosmetics, im a bit over the black n silver look, so will have it reclothed down the track, either just by changing the grill color to wheat ...or changing the color sceme to be same as the FSR 'Blonde' Princeton. I thing such a warm sounding amp, needs warm colors to reflect that. (For me). And the price of having it upolstered (or even attempting it myself) is way cheaper than the $2400 they want for the 'blonde' 65PRRI in Australia. The standard 'black' is $1800. Anyway Jack, i think you should go with the speaker tone that really moves 'you'. Thanks mate, great video... just gives me another reason to get start stock standard, then mod it later if i want ✌😎
You should test the 10" Jensen against a 12" Eminence Cannabis Rex or a Eminence 12” Special Design “CS” speaker. Now that would be a really good comparison. I think a 12" speakers really make the Princeton Reverb come alive.
Hey Jack I was curious what fender amp or other you might recommend that can do the grungy reverb similar to a super reverb? Is there anything that can get into similar territory?
Hmm - you know they briefly made a really cool Retro 60s looking amplifier called the Vaporizer (I think?) that would do the trick, but it may be harder to find. Otherwise I haven't found any other amps that deliver quite the same level of reverb swell that the Super does, but there are alot of other amps in the extended Fender lineup that I haven't tried.
I never been a fan of weber speakers they're just dark and sound like they got a blanket over them....fenders are match made in heaven for jensen speakers you just can't lose with em
Yeah a lot of people modify them to a 12 inch. I personally prefer the 10 inch speakers with it, and its pretty easy to find 10 inch speakers that make it sounder bigger and fuller. This one included.
I love Weber speakers. Years ago I modded a Crate V18 tube and put a Weber in it. It sounded great. I have a Pignose G40V tube amp that I want to put a Weber in. As far as your Princeton Reissue iI kind of feel like it is sac-religious to mess with the Jensen that came with it. It just belongs with that amp IMO.
True but the speaker's in Fender RI's is where they cut costs....they could spend about 50 dollar's more in better speaker and caps and the amps would last as long as the originals IMO
Interesting A/B comparison and almost exactly what I needed to see, Jack. I have a unique Fender Vibroverb “clone” which is actually a ‘69 Super Reverb shoe-horned into a BF Vibroverb cabinet loaded with both a 10” and 12” Weber Ferromax speaker. So it’s a medium sized blackface combo cabinet with a 112 and 110 speaker. Bottom line, I DO NOT LIKE these two Weber speakers in my amp. And I did not like it here in your Princeton Reverb shootout either. I got the amp from a touring country player based in FL and he had the amp expertly built, all hand-wired P2P and it’s a beast. The modified chassis has all the matching original ‘69 trannies and components. I can tell there’s great tone in those bones, but these Webers aren’t delivering it *for me*. Note - I play blues on all archtop guitars, my primary being a beautiful Gibson L-5 CES…a naturally very warm, rounded, and lush guitar. And it takes a lot to make my L-5 not sound great. But these Weber Vintage Series Ferromax Made In USA speakers are just too brutish and “cold” for my L-5 tone, and I hear the same thing here in your demo. I thought your Jensen was much nicer. I absolutely love the well broken-in Celestion Vintage 30 in my ‘66 Deluxe Reverb. It’s like a warm old friend. However, even sweeter is the Jensen MOD15-120 I have in two different extension cabinets! What a beautifully warm and articulate speaker that is. So now I’m considering replacing both of the Webers with a couple of Jensens…maybe one each of the P12/P10 style and the MOD style. I’ve decided that these Webers are just not my sound at all. Too bad, because I prefer made in USA 🇺🇸 products, and Jensens just aren’t.
The webber has a bit of rolled of highs very thick wich is what i like but not everyone. If anybody has personally heard the webber let me know if im right or wrong
Weber to bright, brittle n harsh sounding. Jensen warmer, soft and sweeter sounding. The problem with doing vids on free products is that you have to be a pickle kisser and I can't respect that. You did a master video, God bless n rock on.
Poor mans low wattage 59 bassman - 5watt 68’ vibro champ with a P10q… don’t have to crank to get that bluesy chimney fat sat with a little natural fuzz to it… it’s awesome
The Weber sounded much better and more like the blackface tone that i actually have in mind, that is to say, the quintessencial 60's american psychedelic rock tone, while the Jensen has the annoying high midrange fizz that i don't like at all, and i know very well that some people like fizzy speakers because they like "jangle", but i usually hate it, that's also why i prefer by much a Gibson or Guild guitar with a pair of fat sounding humbuckers or p90s in a blackface/silverface amp over the typical thin sounding single coils.
Did you just try to compare a modern speaker (Weber 10F150T ) that has a driver that is 4x as strong the a Jensen Reissue C10R? Really? Maybe you didn't know that... but I bet the guys at Weber did when they sent you that speaker. In one hand you have a period correct speaker .(which if you went by the vintage designation it is actually the C10Q C7563 ... the vintage R had 15 watts the Q hand 25 watts.. Italian/Sica changed their designations. that stated... when compared to the original. i.e. the C10Q C7563 at 25 watts ... Both the reissue and the vintage have the same cone, vintage c7563 has a VC opening of an 1 inch & inside depth of 1.25 ... The Reissue has a VC opening .98 (.02 off of an 1 inch) & the inside depth of also 1.25 . The vintage C10Q .has inside form length of the vintage .312... the Reissue .310. Magnet strength the same. About the only thing that difference from the Reissue to the original is the dust cap So in one had you have a period correct speaker, the other hand you have a modern interpretation. What do you want? period correct tone ... in your case ... dial the top end off duh.. or Go with the modern interruption.. more frequency response , more dynamics, more efficiency etc. myself... I'm tone anachronistic... I'll take the period correct tone every time.

One is that that particular setting may favor one speaker and second, almost for sure that’s not the best setting for any of the speaker.
Indeed and some pedals you can use to sort of attenuate Crank the amp some and bring the output down on the drive I just moved to a place that's not as sound proof as my old house Miss that Kingtone Blues Power is a great pedal for that
Weber sounds great! I'm a huge fan of Weber speakers!
Thanks Jack! As always, very informative and insightful. I happen to be building a Princeton Reverb kit right now and will consider the Weber.
Oh cool! Who’s the kit from? I’ve been thinking about trying out a Champ kit
@@JackFossett it’s a Mojotone kit. I’ve heard really good things about it.
I did their Champ kit (5F1) a few months ago and it came out great. Fun to build, great sound, and cheaper than buying one.
I prefer that glassy-chime on the original speaker ( although ) I thought the Weber sounded better vs. the Celestion Gold.
I like the clean upper register notes on the weber. Dirt sounds better with the jensen.
Agreed
The question is "why are you surprised?" If you frequent TGP or TDPRI looking for advise on gear, you get your head filled mush... usually by undercover sales reps posing as regular Joes trying to drum up hype about their products.
I think the Weber 10f125 would sit nicely in the middle of the two.
I did,and it's the last speaker I'll ever put in this amp.
try cannibus rex
@@jfar3340
Have never tried the 10" C Rex,but did like the 12" version in my Blues Deluxe, but sold the amp.
I'm sticking with the Eminence 1028K,for my Princeton. Absolutely dig it,and have quite an assortment of unused 10" speakers.
Wow, think you're the only person I've found not to like the GA. I've read nothing but got things about them as a replacement for the stock Jensen
@@iuchilton
For me,and a $100 later,it was not a big enough improvement over the stock Jensen. For cleans,I found it to be better, but it did not agree with a few of my drive pedals.
I have a 12" GA in my Gries 5,and it's wonderful with everything I throw at it.
do you recall which was the wattage of the weber?
The Jensen
Jensen sounds like a Princeton should so I'm with the Jensen
I like the Weber's clean tone. Sounded like someone flipped the "Stereo" switch. Jensen was muted, in comparison.
I like the Weber, I'm thinking of throwing a neo creamback into my champ 25se
I have a Celestion Alnico Creamback in my Princeton and its AMAZING.
@@bobboitt3126 I've seen them in several fenders so I figured it'd be a good match.
I actually had a C Rex in a Super Champ before, 10” and it was a great speaker!
I have the Weber 10F150T in a 6g2 clone and I love it for that, but I much prefer the Jensen in the Princeton Reverb
Jensen for me
Didn't care for the Weber. I just put a Jenson C10R in one of my Super Champ X2's and it sounds great even though it's not broken in yet.
Great vids on the Princeton - Considering a Celestion Gold Alnico myself.
Speakers are where Fender cuts some cost IMO Caps and some other things as well Great demo
the weber sounds absolute perfect to good for pedals the amp is the Best
Still dig my stock Jensen C10R after 11 years.
How about Jensen c10q?
I'm not familiar with Weber. Funny enough, I was recently considering putting a Warehouse speaker into my Princeton
I’ve played a few Warehouse but never owned one - they seem great though
@@JackFossett is this the same Weber that makes the grills?
@@El-Scorcho no - I also tried hamburgers on it, but it worked better in the amp. Cleaning the grease off was tedious 😬🍔
Just remember some speaker's especially Weber's take a while to break in but once they do it's 👍 Some builder's offer a break in service for extra but it's good to know I bought a new Marshall 4-12 in the 90's and said WTH and sold it stupidly cause of that
Really enjoyed the comparison.
Question: which Weber speaker did you use? The 50w or the 25w?
We can only assume it's the 25W as a fair comparison to the Jensen which is also 25W.
@@rossvanuatu2666 watch the video no assumptions are needed😉
Oh and Weber for the win
I put a Weber 12f150t in my '69 Princeton Non-Reverb and love it. I didn't like the sound of the Jenson in the video when breaking up with the SG. Jensen sounds ok with the Tele to my ear, but the Weber was definitely the all around better speaker.
Nice riffs btw!
Interesting. At this end, the Jensen had a more solid low end and more balanced overall. The Weber was raspier and lacking low end.

@@JackFossett hahha
Hey Jack, nice job on the shootout. So, what speaker did you ultimately decide to keep in your Princeton: Stock, Weber, or Jupiter?
Thanks! I went with the Jupiter Alnico in the Princeton, and now I use the Weber in a Supro Tremo-Verb. Stock speaker is long gone.
Heyo Jack... Lately I've been obsessing about low watt Alnico types and wuz wonderin'...
Doesn't Weber make this sort of thing and had you tried this type, or Celestion Blues, etc.
...also in times past folks've had great success with high power types in low watt amps ie
Rivera-era Super Champs w/ EV 12L's and so on....
@@JackFossett a matter of personal taste I guess. Thanks for the video by the way!
@@JackFossett ahh I see. I was looking at the 65 reissue. Amps seems so complicated to me. Truefire should hire you to do a course!
I'd keep the Weber speaker in there, just a tad nicer on my ear.
I agree - I like that there's more roundness to the tone.
I bet it would work! Just have a wider frequency response
Hello Jack! Great demo and fine playing. Is your Weber the 25 ohm or 50? Light dope or regular? Thinking of getting one for my 65 PRRI
Thanks! 25 watt and light dope.
Thats interesting, I'd describe the Weber as richer. The Jensen felt very one dimensional to me with less depth.
Weber less raspy, a bit tighter, Jensen when dirt is pushed sounds a bit “stressed”!
I have the princeton 68 custom with a celestion ten thirty. The mids seem just a bit murky. Anyone have any thoughts on that speaker?
I had that speaker in the Vibro Champ. It’s not bad but I found it pretty unremarkable, I swapped it out for a Weber Alnico.
@@JackFossett usually you can EQ that out but I will go with the Weber classic alnico in my Princeton
Yes I plug my 61 Princeton into a Mojo Tone 2-12 with some old Oxford made Vox alnico 12's and just a great tone
@@JackFossett ok yeah I was afraid of that lol, thanks for the response and I'll check out the one you mentioned.
Jensen sounds better with the Tele, Weber with the SG
The Weber sounded great. Still sounds 100% Fender. Is that the 25watt or 50watt version of the Weber speaker?
25w!
@@JackFossett Thanks for the quick response! That's awesome!
I never been a fan of weber speakers they're just dark and sound like they got a blanket over them....fenders are match made in heaven for jensen speakers you just can't lose with em
Would a 12-inch version change anything? Which do you prefer in a Princeton?
Hi Jack. Did you perceive a significant volume difference between them?
The Weber definitely seems louder, but I wouldn’t say “significantly” - noticeably, but not significantly
@@JackFossett thank you.
Jenson wins...Sounds the way a Princeton should sound... And while we're at it, I'll take that powder blue telecaster off your hands... Sweet!
I like the jensen much more

Weber to bright, brittle n harsh sounding. Jensen warmer, soft and sweeter sounding. The problem with doing vids on free products is that you have to be a pickle kisser and I can't respect that. You did a master video, God bless n rock on.

The Webber makes it sound like the 68 Custom. Too warm.
The amp seems to have a low frequency parasitic.
Weber doesn't cut it.
Jensen FTW
About the only thing that difference from the Reissue to the original is the dust cap
So in one had you have a period correct speaker, the other hand you have a modern interpretation.
What do you want?
period correct tone ... in your case ... dial the top end off duh..
or
Go with the modern interruption.. more frequency response , more dynamics, more efficiency etc.
myself... I'm tone anachronistic... I'll take the period correct tone every time.
I assure you, it’s nothing to be offended by. Each speaker works in this amp and they offer good but different tone. Thanks for the comment though!
