I loved this piece so much! If you don't mind me asking, I was just curious why you painted the initial layer yellow and pink? I was curious because it looks like the final painting turned out a lively and vibrant green! :)
I wondered that too…I think there’s something in that underpainting wash that must lend itself to warming up her palette? She uses it a lot and I’ve noticed her blues and greens all lean warm as well?
Style choice is my guess?
Keep things nice and warm…especially if she’s painting a picture that’s illuminated by sunlight?
Yeah, definitely an underpaint to harmonize the hues. However, she’s using gouache which is naturally opaque. But I find it very interesting that she uses dry brushing to let some of it show through, bringing more warmth into the painting. Another thing it could be for is to remove the bright white of the canvas for more accurate colors. With a direct white page, colors appear darker that they would if the background was black, so using a midtone can balance the tone.
why gouache? is it particularly good for things like illustration?

Because projects like these take a long time to plan and make. Also, she might not get enough commissions to make videos of.
