    I have a PLX-1000 and got it last July to celebrate my 50th birthday. I must say it is a gorgeous turntable and built like a tank. I have always wanted a Technics 1200 since the early 90's, but when they returned to production they overpriced their new products. Their lowest tier turntable the MK7 (priced at $1299 when they first came out and now $999) is not worth the price tag. I have no regrets getting the PLX-1000, it is a fantastic turntable.

      The PLX-1000 is an under-lauded gem. I have one. It’s the last turntable most people will ever need. It’s built to last and sounds great.

    Some things that Pioneer Plx1000 users should pay attention to: 1. Vta's 0 point. 19mm height cardridge 4mm slipmat is the original data. In other words, 6 or 5 millim slipmat is required for the use of 17.3 or 18 height cartridges. This is important for fineline, microline, shibata profile cartridges. 2. If you use Funkfirm or stock technics slip mat in this upgrade, the sound quality is higher than the 4mm original. 3. Pioneer plx 1000 does not ground itself from the inside, this is a habit I do not like. 4. The overhang is 54mm. When you take care of these things, you will notice that when you bring a technics sl1200gr2 home, you will notice that it disappears next to the technics and send the technics back home. Enjoy listening

    Had this turntable for 12 months now and I absolutely love it. The quality of sound that this produces is stunning! I run it with a Goldring 2100 moving iron cartridge and vintage musical fidelity XLPS phono amp. The sound is so rich clear and detailed and has a fullness which will just make you keep reaching for another album. At this price I doubt you will find a better bit of kit, I looked widely before buying and I absolutely know I made the right choice. I intend keeping it for many years and with the level of build quality on this thing it will last the distance!!

      This is only the third turntable I have owned in my life the first was a JVC QL 7 I sold that many many years ago and for very little money. I later bought a lovingly restored Thorens TD 160 my 2, it had been lovingly restored and placed into a granite plinth. I very quickly discovered that I didn’t like the sound of it and as a result found myself listening less. I remembered the JVC sounded fuller and more engaging and enjoyable. I usually place listening above anything and regret not doing that with the Thorens. I took the PLX 1000 from my dealer on a 14 day home trial, installed my new Goldring 2100 and WOW!!!!!! The next day I called my dealer to say there was no way he was getting this back!! Love it and will not be changing this turntable I love it

      Plenty of DJ's have reviewed the PLX 1000 and all say these are great if not better than the old. Pioneer is a modern and improved take of the old so in my opinion these are made to feel similar and improved at the same time. Motor, tonearm, pitch, insulation and sound all better with lot more simple design if you do a teardown. No gimmicks.

    Plx is a nice table for audio but weaknesses exist in the tonearm. The vertical arm bearings on mine needed tightening, this really helped the sound. The loose bearing made the timing sound imprecise - a common complaint for these tables that is blamed on the motor. The motor on these guys is actually quite good. The tonearm wire is really not up to the quality of the rest of the unit. Simon at Audiyo has the best options for tonearm wire. Finally, I gussetted the arm and locktite tightened the fasteners. It is a completely different table now, love it. The bearings and tonearm wire are musts.

    • @paulboyce8537
      @paulboyce8537 Рік тому

      What a load of rubbish. ua-cam.com/video/a0LJ4tEaMsU/v-deo.html Adjusting the bearing is so easy. It is not a fail. Never use locktite as this is something you need to adjust time to time and more often if you transport your gear. This is something that comes loose on transport. 1000 miles on a truck before it gets to you. Again not a fail happens to all turntables. Would be more concerned if it were not loose and locktited. Next to the wiring. The tone arm is better insulated than many of the other more "prestige" tables. If you claim to hear difference changing a wire to a similar wire that's called a "placebo effect" where there in reality is no difference and all is in your head.

    Amazon and Sweetwater have this on sale at $599 for the moment. I ordered it from Amazon and it will arrive next week. I'm a bit of collector when it comes to hi-fi. I currently have four other turntables which includes a Technics SL 1200 MK7 that I spent around $1200 for. For half the price the Pioneer PLX 1000 appears to be superior in quality to the Technics. I'll be able to judge for myself next week. Coincidently I'll be installing the Nagaoka MP- 110 cartridge that I had as a backup to my MK7.

    This one is the bottom which I would recommend if buying new. If buying vintage, even more entry level direct-drive turntables "made in Japan" are perfect choice, but they were not available for 300$ new. At that time price started at somewhere 600$ of today, that is somewhere the same price like PLX-1000 costs today. For less money it is impossible to produce a turntable that works, you can only make a toy. The next rank if buying new would be Technics SL-1200mk7 or SL-1500C.

      Both of those Technics are cheap rubbish at AT level and only fools pay for them. Open up and you see plastic and very poorly made and designed. It is a nightmare if you need to get something fixed. All the main things are old design/fragile where as Pioneer has power, engine, insulation and sound optimized and done with very simple and functional design.

    Ive got the plx 1000’s and the technics mk7’s and this is my personal view on them.
    Pioneer plx 1000 - high torque and great turntable for scratching.
    Technics 1210 mk 7 - better for mixing and blending as pitch fader is better dialled in.

    • @paulboyce8537
      @paulboyce8537 Рік тому +2

      I've read few DJ's reviews about the pitch and my conclusion is that yes it is different but not worse than the other. Just needs to get the brain in sync. When you get use to something the change is always difficult. For example if you would stopped using the Technics for 6 months and then go back to it it would feel totally weird and you would have to learn it again.

    This is one you can easily stick with forever. At price points beyond this, theres not much to gain.
    I would strongly recommend a change of cartridge next, I love my Nagaoka MP200 but the stylus is not great. I run an ATVM95ML until I can get the Nag retipped. Its a fine neutral cart with the best stylus on the market, a steal for the price which they will increase in February, Id suggest you jump on that before they jack the price.
    The anti skate is a fickle topic. VTF is the only installation that can be "perfect", the rest are all moving targets. Id think 4 for anti skate is too high, especially for the Nag, but it all depends on the spring tension in the TT. The easiest test to do is to drop the stylus on a flat surface, like the area around the label and see how the arm moves. Then adjust the Anti Skate so the arm moves slowly in either direction or stands still. Usually that is = to the VTF, so 2 in your case but it depends on that spring tension on your deck.
    I would also recommend heightening the cueing platform a bit, the arm seems to rest pretty close to the record, I can imagine warps being a close call. Simply screw on a screw near the cue platform to adjust it, very easy.

A sonic bargain at it's price and even the arm clip works better! Competes with much higher priced Technics and outperforms the Pioneer in terms of transparency and dynamics. .

    I measured the WOW on both the PLX1000 and the 1210 MK2, on the Technics it oscillated between 0.04 and 0.08%; on the PLX 1000 I measured values between 0.09 and 0.13% (the variations were detected with measurements on different days). this suggests that Technics' analogue speed control with quartz block is even superior to the digital one of Pioneers.

      Ciao, a parte questo hai riscontrato altre differenze qualitative tra il Pioneer e il Technics?

    • @meganoid_9001
      @meganoid_9001 Рік тому +1

      Hi, I have been looking for that comparison for long. Indeed, I have a brand new PLX1000 and an old 1210 MK2. Using Turntable Speed app (on Android), the best measurements stem in the following conditions: 1) No slipmat or anything else than the metal platter; 2) 33/1/3 round per minute speed, 3) Mobile phone centered and laid over a small tape Scotch (1.5 cm wide) centered over the centering pin of the turntable. Here are my figures.
      Pioneer PLX-1000:
      min 33.29, max 33.37,
      drift 0.03%,
      WOW (RMS): 0.06.
      Technics SL 1210 MK2:
      min 3.33, max 33.38,
      drift 0.06%,
      WOW (RMS): 0.04.
      Conclusion: Technics drifts more than Pioneer, the latter is ~50% more volatile than Technics. In my view, drift is not so important because it's just a matter of tuning the pitch appropriately. However, WOW is really important. While a 40 years old Technics is less volatile than a brand new Pioneer, their WOW figure are all below 0.10, which is commonly considered as the threshold below which the spinning is excellent.
      I'd be glad to receive a feedback from whoever wishes to comment on these results. Thanks.

      @@paulboyce8537 Well, the point is that an indistinguishable deviation from the right trend may have a clearly detectable effect of beat mismatching. Indeed, I've made several tests using a digital beat recorded on a vinyl against a beat produced by an electronic metronome. Mk2 allows me to match the beat for minutes, while PLX-1000 always shifts away after no more than 30 seconds.

      @@meganoid_9001 You can find top DJ's reviewing and none of this seem to be true. All rate the Pioneer better but not enough that you should change unless you are getting new. The Pioneer is better option and better priced. You just need to have a peek inside to understand why the Pioneer is so good. Better motor, power, tonearm, insulation where it counts and better sound with very simplified workings. Technics is a nightmare and very poor design if something goes wrong. Personally Technics is hugely overpriced. Under $2000 tables I put it at AT quality. Simply put I would avoid. Pioneer is a modern/improved take of the classic and it shows. It has reliability written all over it.

      This is calculated from the height of the cartridge. If you download the manual there you find the value.

    Funny, my $49 Crosley 'Cruiser Deluxe' arm can be 'flicked' released and the arm lowers slowly... that to me is amazing. Though, the Crosley is NOT a high-end turntable; not by a long shot... it is a child's/kid's turntable. So, if a low budget turntable; say, $200 or more does not have this feature, that's a bloody shame.

    Great turntable, I have one and the first cartridge I used was a Audio-Technica VM540ML and recently I upgraded to a Audio-Technica VM750SH and sound great. In this video it had the VM540ML. ua-cam.com/video/_q2wuPnNxKk/v-deo.html
