This week at our old abandoned cottage in Ireland, we start the prep to build a little off grid living area under our old barn.
We are so excited to be renovating the 200 year old house, but, after demolition started last week, its clear it's going to take a while. Who knows what other problems we are going to uncover along the way?!
We've live off grid in our van for quite some time now and are very much ready to do the same in a stationary way for a while, we think our dog and cat are going to love it. At least we are finally making some progress..

My uncle renovated an old cottage in Co Donegal. He went right back to stone, completely re-did the roof and plastered traditionally with lime plaster etc., but not all perfectly straight, more with authentic finish. It now looks amazing, and has an A rated EPC. He also cut through old overgrown vegetation to reveal a stunning view over the sea. It’s amazing to bring these old cottages back to life, and Ireland is an utterly magical place. Good luck, and very entertaining viewing - we’re full of admiration and definitely not bored!!!

I would call that a blinder of a day, got wood in the morning, painted in the afternoon and aurora borealis at night and we mustn't forget the clothes rail construction, shoe rack next.

Another option for that rusty old metal gate is to wire brush it sand it down and then clear varnish it, two coats, to keep the old look but to stop it rusting further, rather than paint it

This is my life! Feeling overwhelmed remodeling my house and my late mother’s home. Your cottage looks organized compared to mine.

When we first started van life we stopped in a picnic area for a day or two. We watched a man take some oxygen tanks out of the boot of his car and he took the labels off. Then he sanded them down and repainted them. Then he sat and watched them dry. I watched him the entire time. My husband said 'i don't know who is bloody saddest, him watching paint dry or you watching him watching paint dry'. I said 'look, i watched from the start, i am invested'. I was curious too. Like why? Really what a weird place to do that. So I can watch ya paint. I don't even need to question it. Lol.

Bless your heart using a small paintbrush to paint all those. Please use a paint roller. It will be much faster and the paint will roll on more evenly and coat the wood more. You guys are doing an amazing job getting things figured out 🥰❤️

When you were gearing up for the big reveal thought it might be YT Camper Vibe play button plaque. Didn't expect captivating Northern lights, they're breathtaking and unique experience. Was in Alaska recently visiting my sister and got some cool photos of the Aurora borealis too! Keep up the amazing content and happy for you to have a stable place for a while.

I hope someone will lend you a cordless skill saw or sawzall soon too :) Very impressed with your vision for the place and the systematic planning and execution of each step so far. Excited to see the progress next week! (by the way, one of my friends had his chicken wire roll up unexpectedly and one of the ends went into his eye. Hope your wire fence don’t have ends that stick out on its own.)

I once had barbed wire shoot up unexpectedly and the end went up my nose like fishhook. Little bit of blood but a lot of learning. I try and wear safety glasses working with wire now.

I live in the countryside near Valencia, Spain in a house run by two lithium batteries and 10 panels, runs just like being on national grid in UK! (I'm originally from south Manchester) It runs the washer, coffee maker, fridge freezer the lot, honest it's brilliant, lived here 19 years best thing ever! Ok, I have a couple of suggestions, which you probably know already, but just for the heck of it....
When you move into a house, you start by trying to assign stuff by room. That lasts until about your third trip into your house and then your just think, "Screw it! Just put it somewhere for now!!!" Don't sweat the little stuff.
Emily, as long as you're in the "building zone" may I suggest plastic containers to store food? I'm sure you know mice will move in without notice.
Louise, this is why I have a strimmer with an electric cord...200 feet for my property, but I don't have that idiot pull cord!!!
Em, put together an "in house" tool box. Screw drivers, allen wrenches, pliers, a hammer, an adjustable pipe wrench, duct tape, finishing nails and WD40. Leave it under the sink. You'll need it more than you know!
AJ will love his fence so he can run around free. Good jobs ladies! You did brilliantly. We don't care what you film...just show up each week. Love ya!

A cold, rainy weekend resulted in my binging the beginnings of the Camper Vibe channel: the van build, the first trips, the Covid Autumn expedition to France and Spain; and the odyssey of your return journey without Fanny. It was an epic experience that could have defeated and separated a couple, but you both persevered with resilience, good spirits, and love. 💕 Then … today’s vlog appeared showing you both glowing with happiness as you build your home in Ireland.
