On paper Kenshi seems way too difficult. But once you get the muscle memory down about holding R2 or R1 he feels so good and is getting hella meterless damage

A lot of people aren’t doing frame perfect block pressure with sento. Also his sento combos are more difficult relative to the rest of the cast. Definitely top tier but I think it’s only right that he is strong if he’s gonna be a more advanced character.

I use Reiko for the sole reason of his animations, I was a Baraka main at first got to top 800 then switched to Reiko dropped to 4000 but sticking it out with him
I’m a smoke main, personally I play him because I always liked the character, and it was since mk9 that I couldn’t play with him (triborg doesn’t count), I just missed playing with him and was ready to adapt to whatever his playing style was going to be
I also use smoke, but mainly because he just looks cool and I like unga bunga

I've always been a raiden main in every mk game I play, and I never trash talk ppl, but of course I get trashed talked too just cuz raiden is to strong right now and I really hate that, I even try to do combos that are different and not as high damage as the ones ppl spam online, I personally liked it better when he was trash in mk11 cuz it felt rewarding to win with him and I'd get compliments for learning him, but now I'm tempting to not even use him untill he gets a nerf just because how much hate he gets

I agree with most of the characters on this list. Except Raiden. Idk what Raidens you fight online, but I will always get fatalitie or t-baged cause they get a 40% every hit. 😭
Yea, most Raiden I play just need to do their combos twice and they always have almost 50%. They just win the game just like that with no sweat.
As an ashrah main, he is a problem for me aswell. Got to respect a lot of shit, watch out for his teleport, his yeee to get out of the corner, his armored yeee on wake-up, then he does a meterless combo with sareena or cyrax or whatever he is using.....and he finally fucks up, I whiff punish and he breaks cause he didn't use 1 bar on his combo......then through out the match the occasional tea-bags 😭
Great video! I look at Reiko as a tactical player. In my opinion, not every character has to be combo heavy and be considered boring. It's just a different playstyle. I love seeing other players play him at a high level. It's all relative.

I like experimenting with Reiko, everyone pairs him with Darius from what I've seen, but he gets great meterless damage with Jax fr. I have a bread n butter meterless 35% from almost any hit and you can get easy 40% if you can hit in the corner, on top of having Jax as a great setup to open peeps up
50% of Reiko damage comes from the tackle. Another 35% comes from stars. He's dumb
I actually have a lot of fun with Reiko, I only use the projectile to build meter tho, mostly I’m just trying to do my dope command grab combos.
I’m ashrah main and I’m about the opposite of that lol she is an amazing character but I’d never downplay that at all. I think Sonya benefits her combo game a lot. But I think she really blows up Johnny. I think she’s a great counter pick to the top tiers. Thanks for the great content bro!
Try goro bro. That is the true cameo for Ashra. Also did u think learning her was hard? I thought this was funny cuz she was pretty simple to me. But I also have really good memory/ muscle memory so I don’t really find anyone tough. I even would go to say I think kenshis difficulty is overrated. I labbed him for like an hour and got it down but got bored of him. Ashra is the truth. Ppl get so pissed at her range

Dude try her with goro. You can extend combos, and turn her unsafe 2,1 string (the gap in the middle) safe.
I'm not an Ashrah main, but I pocket her, and I feel like what happens is that when you first start learning her she seems really confusing so when you get good with her you think that's you being good and not Ashrah being good. Also, I use ashrah scorpion because she can get some crazy stuff off of scorps
I’m ashrah main her pokes and anti air are pretty good. Raw character bro and you should definitely mess with goro. I played with Sonya and she can extend combos and do more damage I think goro is a much safer pick.
I’m a reiko main and I love how boring he is. I was intermediate at mk11 for the whole life cycle (Demi god peak) I said reiko was perfect to learn this game because combos would be easy. That plus strike Throw mix and my fundamentals carry me against most people.
In mk11, Reiko would problably be a S Tier character

Reiko isn't even boring. That's just his opinion. Playing Reiko really helped me learn the fundamentals of mk1. I've been able to best these high damage characters because of it.
I love the way scorpion feels in this game, doesn’t feel cheap at all, just feels right but a small buff definitely wouldn’t hurt

As a shao main I’m loving it. I find him so fun in this game even though he isn’t great. Sure I’ve punched a few controllers so far but it’s because I have a short temper not because of the character.
He's straight mid. He's not the best, but definitely not the worst. His combos are just so much fun to land. Almost as fun as kenshi 😂
I picked Baraka, because I thought he was cool and I'm comfortable with him. And this was before the HYPE and Cyrax. In fact, I refuse and haven't used Cyrax at all lol All because of that cheese hype and overuse.
Ashrah main here. You are right, she is not a hard character to play, she basically has 1 combo that every one of her good buttons cancels into. Stances are a gimmick, she’s just a push good buttons and win character.

I'm not in the majority of sindel mains. I had mained liu kang and scorpion in mk11 and didn't want to repeat it this game. I genuinely tried different characters and just kind of clicked with sindel. she isn't extremely overpowered and shes a little difficult to play, which i liked. I wanted a good challenge but also be able to have fun and win whenever i deserved the win without using a crazy overly powered charcter.
I was a Kotal Khan main in MK11, Cyrax in X and Sub/Cyrax in 9. I'm obviously a Rain main in MK1.
I want to preface this with i think he is very good probably A Tier in this early meta but has clear weaknesses that i feel most are not aware of because of lack of matchup experience and lack of labbing him, there are not a lot of Rain Loyalists currently. Definitely more to be discovered but feel he will be dropping a bit after people learn the matchup which is normal for most characters.
He doesn't have neutral moves, only his Down 3 reaches but is -13 on block and his sweep knocks them down. Most characters get a button for that range.
His overhead overhead is 28 frames of startup, it does have a throw cancel at 10 frames but it's stubby.
I use Stryker Kameo combined with water beam cancels (feel free to look at my channel to see the combos and cancel pressure)
Very heavy input, pretty hard to learn.
Stryker grenades covers most of his issues, i can throw out grenades to steal turns, make stuff safe, extend combo damage, cover gaps, stop opponents from abusing farther reach in footsies.
I've been saying Rain was damn near top tier (A to A+) since day 4 after official release.
I just don't want him to be considered S Tier or broken. Nothing he has is broke and i can prove it.
On my channel i show you how to punish the Rain/SubZero "Unblockable Vortex Setups" where ye freezes with sub, uses charged water beam into ground toilet into his double overhead. You simply delay wake-up into UpBlock to punish the second overhead.
I honestly hope they don't nerf the characters and if they Nerf Cyrax plz don't mess with his functionality, change the regen of the meter or reduce chip, i understand he is very strong Kameo but Nerfing characters/kameos functionality will start the waterfall of Nerf Everything into the ground like 11

Reptile is probably one of the more honest characters in the game and actually well-designed because of it. Even when it comes to kameos you feel like Reptile has a good selection to choose from since they can enable him in different ways.
I love reptile and actually managed to get to demi god with him but MY GOD does he have to work harder than other characters. As soon as I switched to one of the higher tier characters everything felt so easy in comparison

Yes! Baraka mains are so toxic. It’s like they can’t stand losing because they went into the match thinking that they were using an unbeatable character then they cagey all but hurt. Spot on about how they throw on the mic halfway thru the set 😂
If Kung Lao didn’t have a cheap armored move I think it’d be fine to put him in yellow flag. It’s definitely the dirtiest thing he’s got. Just keep in mind though that Lao is really stubby. He has NO far reaching/advancing normals. Also, ANYTIME he whiffs a dive kick in front of you, he’s going into a down 3. Just let it happen and block lol
Def an easy character to zone. I’m a Lou main and yeah I agree, an armored wake up that can combo is pretty cheap but tbh everyone in this game has a “cheap” move, some more than others. I just think that atm people are still labbing things and eventually people will find out that some characters on the roster can definitely be stronger if they just don’t use cyrax and Selena. For example I’m pretty sure Darius can be very strong with someone like Gerus bc of how you can set up your opponent. Watch a vid and you’ll what I’m talking about.

Reiko is super fun to play honestly. If your constantly spamming shurikens then that shit isn't fun for anybody. I just feel llike everything with reiko hits like a truck and i love it. I agree he could probably use some buffs in other areas to open up more possibilities.

It’s not in MK1 it was only in MK11?
It's the same as in MK11, pressing Square/X or whatever attack button (I think every attack button counts) you want at the same time as every hit of the fatal blow makes that hit do more damage, or less damage if you're the one getting hit. In MK11 there were indicators below the health bar that told you if you got the timing right or wrong in both cases (a skull for attack and a shield for defense), in this one there's no indicator for some weird reason but it still works
I will forever be loyal to my Jax Raiden, I tried Cyrax Raiden, but it's just super boring, and I love the set ups and high damage with Raiden,
Li Mei doesn't combo off of her armored move, except in the corner. Even then, the scaling is so high you top out at like 20% unless you spend multiple bars, both kameos AND FB, then you get like 30%.

Disclaimer: I don't trash talk. I be too busy try'na survive out in these cold streets as Sub-Zerizzo wit my Lin Bae Frosty. I'm not even that good myself, but tbf, it's a little bit deserved if you're losing to Sub-Zero wit a character that can deal over 40. It's completely deserved if you're playing ANY character that can deal 50.
Ok… ima be real here… I’m not toxic as Johnny… I don’t spam as johnny. I actually really chill as johnny.. I say good game after almost every game win or lose. I try to get a second match in with the opponent I go against. Lastly when I land a fatal blow… unlike my Caged brethren. I try to plan how to start another juggle combo… I don’t talk shit, I admit when I get my ass fried by a badass scorpion who can juggle me for half the match. I say good game to my kenshi bros. I say good game to my brakas and smokes (even though y’all gotta chill a little bit bro.) other than that… I guess ima Johnny of a different breed. (That and I played him and erron black in mk11 a little bit before mk came out like 2 months before hand) so yeah… ima little hurt by this… do better Cage bros! Do better.

As a shao main myself, i dont need buffs. I dont mind the lower damage, i dont mind the lack of 50/50 combo starters. Hes just so much fun 😂
Edited: only change would be making his knee a mid. I think that's his biggest weakness.

I was hoping for Kitana buffs at first in the beta but after getting to lab her in the full release… she really doesn’t need that much help. If she got a 50/50 she’d be broken lol. I’m enjoying her tons and haven’t lost and thought it was the characters fault. She can be played ridiculously safe and has a great hit confirmable mid”s”.

There are characters like Baraka, Raiden, Lao, etc. that have 50/50s that get meterless 40% damage off the most basic combos. Kitana has to work harder and relies on her opponents making mistakes to even get in. There’s a reason you don’t see many Kitanas competing in tournaments and winning. She plays a different game compared to most of the roster. I think a damage buff or a better mid would help her. No need for an OH.
I kinda half agree, but I don’t think she’d be broken with a 50/50. She’s pretty slow, which would be fine if she had a 50/50 or even better range for that matter, but she’s slow, lacks any overheads, and her range isn’t super impressive. It just seems like she’s a 1000% Effort character with very little payout.
nah i genuanly don't know how raiden is a green flag, maybe this only happens in grand master and lower ranks but omfg, they're one of the most toxic mfs I have to play against, obv the characther is rlly good especially with cyrax but I swear to god every time I meet a raiden in rank he barely uses command attacks (or skills idk), he always does a fatality in the LAST set, and just shittalk throughout all the sets.

I love Li Mei, my only request for buff or quality update would be to make active frames for lantern to start sooner or to adjust the way 2nd lantern calls can eat your input on certain kombos. By eat i mean she will not call a lantern whatsoever, she will just do a back 2 or whatever the number is for triangle. I'm fine with the 3 lantern max, but that input eating is unneccessary to me if it was intentional. We all know there are double and triple lantern kombos with kam assist, but solo is when the input eating happens. There's a difference between calling 2nd lantern after the 1st lantern explodes immediatly after called and when its on field for a few ms. Easy way to test; in corner position > JI3 (x) > stand 3 (x) > lantern > press any button to start a juggle after lantern hits > try to call 2nd lantern. You'll probably have about 1s or so before you can another lantern.
What if I’m a sub main that didn’t get to experience sub in the beta 😭 high damage sub sounds so fun

I don’t mind sub-zero having damage nerf, i would be happy is his b4 and b2 were a little faster. And also casting speed of an ice ball, very slow right now😢
As a forever Shao main, that really made me smile. Shao ain't ever been great in his playable appearances, except MKvsDC but that game was its own monstrosity. But something about playing the big bad boss of the series and just running down these combos that feel like they hurt even if the damage isn't always there and it's unsafe who cares it's fun and I'm gonna stay there all day everyday. :)
Same. I main Kenshi, Baraka, and shao. Shao was my first though, and he made me learn how to actually play the game 😂

Kung Lao has been the same playstyle for the past 10 years. The only real difference is the spin is now on Kameo so we don't have the option to blow up yolo spins.
Edit: Just got to the Kitana bit and she's who I switched to from Reiko. She seems really good in this game. Not sure who's asking for buffs on her, but it's probably just because she doesn't have mix. She's got some good range on a few of her normals, decent damage, some pretty good projectiles, and her strings are super easy to hit confirm.
If I were to buff anything, it would be to connect the fan nado on connection with an airborne opponent. If you poke someone like smoke out of a jumping attack then you don't have a guaranteed chance to land the fan nado and you watch the fan go THROUGH the opponent. That seems like it's more of a bug, though.
As a smoke main, I can confirm he is saying the truth. Our character is hard to play but when we master the cancels, the mixups become hard to counter.
are they tho? with the exception of b2 and f3, he's all highs and his cancels are all minus. D1 is his kryptonite lol
@@thecoldest4lifefr. Smoke really struggled against pokes with how negative everything he does is and how many holes his strings have. Smoke is normally a free win for me even when it’s a good player. He’s def a scrub killer tho
Smoke main here, the cancel is the key, feel like he becomes pretty doable once you get that, but the strings that you can use become way way way more narrow. He needs some more kids man honestly

Honestly, Diff I think it is crazy how the MK community acts about their Edenian female characters like Jade and Kitana. I don’t really have social media, but when Kitana was not that great in mk11 I was loyal and still used her. Kitana is great at where she is right now in mk1, imo. The one who truly needs buffs in MK1 is Sub Zero. Even tho I have always liked Scorpion as the better ninja my boy sub got nerfed to the ground.😭

Li Mei can’t combo off her armour. The non-armoured version can be used to make a combo with various kameos, but her armoured version has a different hit reaction which prevents you from relaunching. Happy to be proven wrong if you wanna post footage.
I heard about this several times, but seems people just mess it with non-armored version. It can combo, but only near a wall when opponent bounces, and I did not get it working in general case. I also would be glad to hear that I’m wrong and see a proof.
I agree with most stuff I would say reptile is green because a buff I do agree is his force ball stuff if you do two force balls in one combo it scales pretty badly so it leaves reptiles combos very straight and doesn’t expand also raiden I would say yellow because I’ve dealt with a lot of raidens that would just back up and do his Superman and electric orbs all the time because it’s safe and can yolo all the time and rain I would say yellow and im a rain main because of the hard to blockable with the Whirlpool and overhead also we do complain about his stubbiness and his speed which I do feel are problems but he has a lot of good things tho it’s just those two things make it hard against pressure but yeah everything else I agree

I recently dropped scorpion for liu kang after reaching Demi god because he's just impossible to play with against actual good players. He has literally no mixups at all. I know you said characters don't need mixups to be good but for me since I'm not a great player trying to open up players in Demi God is impossible lol
If utilised properly, Liu Kang has one of the best mixups in the game. Not overhead low, but simply his f434 adds so many layers to his game that it is even better than most mix ups. I currently main Liu with Lao kameo, his most ideal kameo. Adding to that the low hat and the throw combo, youll have ur opponents second guessing all game if u play ur cards right.

As a Reiko main, let me explain why, slide grab... when you nail someone with that slide grab and ground-pound them there is no better feeling the world.
Same reason I started playing him 2 days ago , got some of most gruesome and demeaning brutalities and fatalities and I like the wrestle keep my feet on the ground play style to balance out my stylish play style

i play smoke because the first time i played a mortal kombat game was mk3 with my brother on the original xbox and i remember seeing smoke peeking from behind the trees on the living forest map. i never played any other mk that had him in it so i finally get the chance to in this game.
Play mk9 if you get the chance. Smoke was a beast in that game, he got his own chapter in the story mode even.

I’m a Kenshi main, and the only buff I would really want for him is for Demon Drop to become anti-air. Compared to someone like Johnny or Sub-Zero, Kenshi does not have long combo potential. Either that, or I’m just bad. But, making Demon Drop anti-air would open up Kenshi for some serious combos. That’s my only complaint
I'm Kenshi main in my case I'm excited to discover new mechanics and routes even if they are difficult, trying to analyze matchups and other things, even sometimes I use shujinko for fun hahaha.
And I love to fight with good people who make it hard for me, to find out what mistakes I make and so on, I had a long time without having fun in a fighting game but MK1 is giving me a lot of fun 🙌

I main Smoke. I haven't used Sareena with him. I use him mostly because I missed him since he was last playable in mk9. I don't think he needs buffs, although I'm a bit a afraid that he might get nerfs actually. I haven't played much online yet as I do fear getting humiliated.
In MKX he was even coolers than MK9 or maybe I just like all the Troborgs but Smoke as a Triborg in MKX was so amazing to watch and play with...

Smoke just looks fun to me. I've never played any MK game online and I was thinking about using him along with Reptile.
I will happily live that villain life, if it means I can have hype combos and a neverending learning mindset.
Shang Tsung is so fun to play from every standpoint. The age swapping, the adjustments I have to make alongside my opponent on the fly. And then there's stuff I can do when I'm not playing! Every replay I watch, a lesson is there. I can watch streams of other characters and take notes. I can learn so much!
And when all else fails, I can just zone people alongside Stryker and then be told I have no penis.

I swapped jax for scopion with my raiden. More mix ups, garunteed 400 plus damage with one bar. Max damage combo is 56%. It makes him more aggressive than just waiting for a punish and doing 50%. Rather have more opportunity to do 400 plus than a less opportunity to do 500
As a raiden and Jax main expecting to be trash talked I greatly appreciated that 😂

Kung Lao/scorpion main in 9, reptile main in X, Cassie cage/Raiden main in 11. I’m liking reptile and lei mei in mk1. I’m trying to get better with other cameos who isn’t cyrax. Cyrax is a really good cameo right now. I remember the beginning of mk11 where many people picked Sonya, geras, or scorpion. Which Sonya and scorpion players being the most toxic when the game came out.
I don’t get how people are scared of smoke or Johnny or baraka just guard but raiden if you even let him get 1-3 kick that’s like 100-380 dmg sub you gotta hit a whole 10-30 hit combo just for a 200-400 dmg meter
