Thanks much, though you still need to play it and make something that is just yours. One tip is to find a place on a map that isn't a typical starting place. Everyone that records this map starts on the hill with the iron (which is actually a difficult start as so much of it is just steep slopes). Instead head into a corner and find a place that is unique. Enjoy!
It was certainly a surprise as I'm really not doing anything different other than a few weeks ago I reevaluated how I create titles, descriptions, and keywords, and apparently UA-cam noticed. Behind these commercial fronts, the plot would often include living quarters, along with gardens or small yards. Burgage plots were rented from a lord or the king under a leasehold arrangement, with the tenant, known as a burgess, paying rent in cash. This system was distinct from the agricultural feudal system and was a key feature of the urban landscape in medieval times.

game looks interesting. definitely have to give it a try. also your voice is very soothing. like someone else said definitely give off bob ross vibes and im all for it.
I know I'm late to the party, so please excuse. Love the way you do videos and am watching whole series. Great channel. One note: In 5.4 version, there is enough thatch and nails in your initial storage to build all nine houses plus the thatchery. So, ideal build order is forestry, clay pit and nine houses, then thatchery, smithy and carpentry. Building thatchery and farm divert builders from absolutely essential housing. From there maybe small granary and market stall so people who were able to plant their garden (usually first three if you go houses right after forestry and clay pit) can sell food and attract newcomers. You can start the farm in December and it will usually finish late in February and if you pause you can build enough fields to get some harvest by the next Fall. Of course everyone does things differently, which is one of the joys of Ostriv.
Yes, everyone has their own way of starting. I'd prefer to get everyone employed as soon as possible and start building household incomes early. We still finished the houses in plenty of time. Thanks for watching!
Nice job, I like your style, not sure its Bob Ross but good to follow. I hope this village is successful as I'm one who gets down the road and my economy crashes and I go broke LOL.
Thanks! We did well with this little town. Never needed a loan, never lost a family, explored every aspect of the game, and left it in a good place. Enjoy!
I advise hitting that pause button before you decide placing your camp, you lost at least a couple of weeks build time. When ever I start a new map I hit that pause button straight away. Nice calm video.😄

I really enjoy that open world game. If the NPCs didn't cuss so much I'd record a series of it, but they try too hard to prove just how bad they are... I hope they continue it, too. Thanks for watching!
I've watched this type of games being played for as long as i remember, and found your channel today. You're amazing, you're commentary and play style is all great. Keep making this stuff and I'll quit all other creators. Loved you're content, please don't take a 4 year break again 😅❤
The four year break was for my sanity. At near1000 videos I was so burnt out that I stopped playing games even for myself for quite some time. You do the same thing for too long you get tired of it. Eventually I started to miss it again and now it is once again enjoyable. Thanks for watching!
You´re making me want to "binge play" Ostriv again! I do so every six months or so until i tire of it - but it is a cozy, somewhat challenging and different game.
Ostriv is one of those gems that you return to over and over. Few games can do that. This one has just the right balance that keeps things from feeling repetitive. Maybe someday he'll work procedurally-generated maps into the game and all will be complete with the world. 😉
Along with 24 dozen cookies made to hand out for Christmas, I got the second bathroom reno finished just in time for a houseful of company. Still have the last of the trim work in the other one to finish, as well as the need to trim out the entire hallway run around all of the doors. This place was built in 1901 and had a lot of fancy woodwork around everything that I had to pull out, so will be quite a task to put it all back in and paint...later. I'm taking an Ostriv break for now. 😉
I played this quite a lot about 3 years ago, might have been a bit less. It kept crashing once the town got to a reasonable size, and I have a decent computer. Such a relaxing game, I'd play for hours.
Just came across your channel the other day and have now watched both episodes. Great series so far, enjoying your relaxed style. Just before finding your channel, I had started a new game on the same map but across the river on the iron hill. Interesting to see how your village grows in an entirely different spot.
Cool. You grow your town toward us as this one grows toward the iron fields. Let me know if one proves more challenging of a start. I'd guess that long hill over there would make it a harder start once the hilltop fills up...or at least a more creative start. Thanks for watching!
Oh man! I remember watching either you or Vaypah/Vavify play this game years back! It's awesome to see it again! There's so much potential in this game! I can't wait to see what your town looks like! :D
We both recorded this game when it first came out. I just checked, that was 6 years ago! I hope Vay gets back to recording someday. Thanks for joining!
Yes, that has become my calling card as of late. 😉Add to that I have seriously bought all of the painting supplies to one day give painting a try, all because of Bob Ross. He's amazing!
That does help, or at least until there is enough of a building queue to keep the builders busy while setting up any remaining buildings. I never play any game at the fastest speed - the whole point of playing is to enjoy the journey, not race to the finish. Thanks for the input!
Yes, aspects of each. One thing I enjoyed about Forest Village was the ability to go first-person and become one of the villagers. Manor Lords later this spring will let us do that as well. Thanks for watching!
Pause immediately as soon as you see the plot of land to be built on in front of you, otherwise you will not pass the first task. You can always have those conversations.
I'm guessing you didn't finish the episode before you made your comment. We not only fulfilled the base requirements but added a farm and more, all before snow hit. No worries.
Very cool game mate... I'm sold! Subbed! - Do you plan to continue the series? I like the way you present things, explanations of what keys do etc.. Thank you, Happy NY from me in Australia. :)
Welcome! I think my last Ostriv playthrough went 40 episodes, so that seems a likely goal for this one as well. Take a browse through my playlists when you have time. There are a lot to choose from, all with a similar commentary style. The Banished Colonial Charter 1.6 was a similar game and a very popular series. Happy New Year back at ya!
Hey noble! You tube had unsubbed me from your channel.. I watched all your banished videos and even had a character in your last rim World Series.. bill the jealous artist… I’ve checked your channel from time to time and never saw you… until today! You were on my recommended video list.. I wish I’d have known sooner sir welcome back friend!
Hey Bill, good to hear from you! Yep, it took quite some time to get past the burnout of spending so much time making videos. I didn't play any games even for myself for quite a while. Eventually the interest returned and last January I decided to give it another try, taking breaks now and then to keep it from feeling like a job. It is fun again. I've put out 4 or 5 series since then, so you have some catching up to do! 😉
Skibitth mentioned you. Will be fun to compare your different approaches. Loved Banished so just picked this up. I watch these to learn from so, unlike Jeffrey below, I love the slower pace and commentary. Please keep explaining why you make the decisions you do. For example, your explanation of Thatchery placement. I am used to big southern US farm yards around houses -- my aunt used to just move her garden to a different spot in the yard every year. So I tend to make my house yards and farm fields as big as possible. Why do you prefer small ones?
Welcome to the channel! It helps to play this game with the mindset of these villagers in the 1700s. This early in the game there aren't enough laborers to maintain large farm fields, which means by the time they finish planting the first one, then the next, when they get to the final one the growing season will be well underway with little time left to grow. One field will be done well, the rest not so well, the last not even worth doing. Same at harvest time as some won't finish before snow hits and the rest of the crops die. Later as the village grows there will be enough labor to handle either larger fields or a second farm altogether. Smaller fields at the beginning means all of them get done well and there is time left for the laborers to move on to other needed jobs, like refilling the charcoal piles with firewood for the blacksmith. As for large house gardens, the more land they have the larger their land taxes will be when the Town Hall gets built, which increases the possibility that families will go bankrupt and have to move out. So all in moderation. People usually fail at these colony builders because they try to do too much too fast and forget the village is still just starting with very few citizens, citizens that need their own personal time off to take care of their household needs as well. Make sense?
@@NobleRambler Yes it does, thanks. Do house gardens ever need to go fallow or change crops or do they keep their original setting? I was expecting gardens to need fallow space as well as fields. And I have ignored the spoilage factor when producing large batches that I can't sue or sell. Not used to that in a game. That also works against my bigger is better.
I don't see any indication of house gardens being able to go fallow, so we'll assume they fertilize their personal gardens with food scraps, compost, and, well, shall we say chamber pots. LOL
@@NobleRambler I remember chamber pots from my Grandmother's house. Well was in the chicken yard, outhouse in the cornfield. In the large gardens I have made some parts are not always planted. I assumed it was a fallow thing but perhaps it's just because they already have enough of that particular crop.
So the Tannery is likely where it will be used here then. The game tries to be fairly realistic. Wait until you see what it takes to convert limestone into lye. Many steps I'm told. Thanks for the help!
Since you were mentioning games at the end, have you seen song of syx? Its a game where you build city states and manage them and it has good reviews. I haven't played it myself because it looks frighteningly complicated to me.
Never heard of that one. I just took a look at the trailer and yes it does look complex. I doubt I would take the time to master it, so would pass. Thanks for the comment!
The game definitely looks good. Thank you for the relaxing play through. Did you put any benches along the path to the back houses and would any along the trail to the river be used?
Definitely going to 'Bob Ross' this series. 👍 Good winter distraction. I'll take another look at benches as we further along until I know better where everything goes. This episode was just meant to win the race to snowfall. Thanks for watrching!
Yes, that came up. I didn't understand that until I took a closer look at the 'world map' to realize it actually is a vary large island with many cities. Thanks!
I loved the game... I was a play tester but he wouldn't give me a game key like he was supposed to and after all the testing I did I refused to buy it.. I will be content to watch you play..
Ostriv is solid. I put out a series within days of its first release (before Steam) and never had a problem. Perhaps you got the game just as an update was added, which always has the risk of something unintended going wrong. As with most early access titles, you need to be patient. Updates get added, bugs get accidently introduced, and patches fix them until all is right again. You and I are just play-testers. 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Nope, just the economy and your own creativity (which can be formidable enemies in the right situations.) Can you create a town with an economy that keeps everyone fed and in house and home without bankrupting the town, all the while laying things out creatively and efficiently? Believe me, that's tougher than taking down a Skyrim bandit camp any day! 😉 Thanks for stopping by!
Never discovered this game until I found your UA-cam play of episode 1. I enjoy city build/colonization games and this looks good. I am going to buy it because it looks good BUT ALSO because of the Ukrainian connection. My family (ethnic Germans) emigrated to the US from a German enclave in the Ukraine, a region known as Volhynia. With the war going on this, at least, is another tangible way to support the Ukrainians. Thank you for that...and the enjoyable video. (Is there a way where you would get some credit for my purchase?)
At this point it is more important that Yevheniy gets all the credit for your purchase. In fact, he would likely get more if you bought the game directly from his website (rather than Steam) then transfer the Steam Key back into Steam to play it. Check out Ostrivgame.com/buy for more details. Enjoy!
I think you are confused. I'm just playing a game on UA-cam. I am not the creator of the game. As a single UA-cam channel I do not have a choice of where my videos are viewed - only UA-cam can do that. And I doubt even the game designer has a choice about where Steam chooses to sell all of their games - that's Steam's choice.
That's not correct. Only a part of Ukrainian lands (that divided by river Dnipro +-) was under Moskovia occupancy, and they called this lands Malorossia or Little Russia, but other part of lands by most of Europinian countries called as Ruthenia. And the south-western lands that were subordinated to the Poland in 1569 got the unofficial name Ukraina, but officially all territory of Ukraine they called it as Rusini. So it's more correct to call Ukraine or Ruthenia instead of Little Russia or Malorossia
@@texoschannel4907 these lands were never inhabited by Russians. During the time of Kievan Rus, there were many different Slavic tribes. You're talking nonsense. Also, the game takes place in the 18th century, which was much more later than were Rus'. During this time, a lot has changed, not only in the historical context, but also in everyday life. If you do not know the history of the lands on which modern Ukraine is located, then do not try to impose the vision that you read in Russian books
When I went back into the game the white lines went away, so consider them a built in warning system that you need to get up and take a walk. 🤣 Otherwise it truly is a wonderful game. Thanks for stopping by!
@@NobleRambler No it is not. At that time there were Lithuanians, Polacs, Russians, Greeks and Tatars in the region. More specifically, depending on what region we are talking about it was either the Russian Empire or the Polish Kingdom. There were cossaks, which were not an ethnicity(and they extended into modern RF) but a job title, similar to "vikings." This is a fantasy game no different than Morrowind or BG3 in that respect.
dude it took you 20 minutes to put down 2 houses we dont need that much commentary and we dont need to be given every detail about the game before you make a move.......just place the things and get to going.......
That's the great thing about UA-cam. If you find a channel that makes content just the way you like it, stick with it and support it. If the play-style frustrates you, move on. Or do what I did...start your own channel and make it your way, and don't let someone else make you change the way you enjoy playing games just to satisfy them. Make sense?

I haven't played this since the new update so maybe I will see if I can find the time to follow along with you. Good episode! 🙂
I haven't played it since the original update...so it's all new to me! 🤣
Hope you had a fab Christmas and got that bathroom renovation done. This looks a fun a game :)
Wow! How have I Not known about this channel?
Welcome! 2600+ people have found me so far, so only 6 billion left to go... 😉
Just downloaded this game. Can't wait to play.
Me too, but I'm stuck painting a hallway today. 😆
@@NobleRamblerI feel that. We just painted our kitchen and ceilings
Ceilings are tough! Oh the neck aches.
@@NobleRamblerSympathy pains. My neck hurts thinking about it.
I played this quite a lot about 3 years ago, might have been a bit less.
It kept crashing once the town got to a reasonable size, and I have a decent computer.
Such a relaxing game, I'd play for hours.
There have been several updates since then, so hopefully whatever caused that has been resolved. We'll see. Thanks for watching!
You can force your blueprints overlay to stay on from within the overlay menu, located to the right of your map.
Found that. Thank you!
Your voice has a little Bob Ross to it.
Yes, that has become my calling card as of late. 😉Add to that I have seriously bought all of the painting supplies to one day give painting a try, all because of Bob Ross. He's amazing!
You are like Bob Ross of video games
This game looks cool
Key to getting nine houses is to pause game and set up initial buildings then go
That does help, or at least until there is enough of a building queue to keep the builders busy while setting up any remaining buildings. I never play any game at the fastest speed - the whole point of playing is to enjoy the journey, not race to the finish. Thanks for the input!
It reminds me of the game Life is feudal: Forest Village or Banished
Yes, aspects of each. One thing I enjoyed about Forest Village was the ability to go first-person and become one of the villagers. Manor Lords later this spring will let us do that as well.
Thanks for watching!
Pause immediately as soon as you see the plot of land to be built on in front of you, otherwise you will not pass the first task.
You can always have those conversations.
I'm guessing you didn't finish the episode before you made your comment. We not only fulfilled the base requirements but added a farm and more, all before snow hit. No worries.
Finally, someone who cares about aesthetics. GG sir! o7
👍
One has to care, otherwise why are we doing this? 🤔
@@NobleRambler You are an artist. Thank you.
I name you the Bob Ross of Ostriv.
LOL. I hear that's the general consensus. I've thought about taking up painting...
Bark in real life is used to tan leathers and make dyes.
Thanks for watrching!
must've been a couple Amish folk in that opening scene. They raised that barn super quick :P
They certainly are amazing barn-raisers!
In the real world a tannery uses bark.
Great to know. Thanks!
Not sure if anybody mentioned this yet, but "ostriv" is Ukrainian for "island".
Yes, that came up. I didn't understand that until I took a closer look at the 'world map' to realize it actually is a vary large island with many cities.
Thanks!
Did I find the Bob Ross of video games?
There will never be another Bob Ross.
(in the mean time I am growing out my hair...)
😁
I loved the game... I was a play tester but he wouldn't give me a game key like he was supposed to and after all the testing I did I refused to buy it..
I will be content to watch you play..
It is an enjoyable game, relaxing. This is going to be a fun series to create. Glad you're onboard!
Which is better? This or Farthest Frontier?
That's like asking which is better, red or blue? They are both great games, and I enjoy them both equally.
Banished is released yet.
huh?
Is it any good now? Last time i tryed, i coulnt even open the game, so i got my money back.
Thanks for watching!
Are there any enemies to fight in this game?
Nope, just the economy and your own creativity (which can be formidable enemies in the right situations.) Can you create a town with an economy that keeps everyone fed and in house and home without bankrupting the town, all the while laying things out creatively and efficiently? Believe me, that's tougher than taking down a Skyrim bandit camp any day! 😉
Thanks for stopping by!
@@NobleRambler Alrighty, thanks!
Enjoy!
Did as you recommended. Thanks.@@NobleRambler
Why did you ban this game from certain countries?
I think you are confused. I'm just playing a game on UA-cam. I am not the creator of the game. As a single UA-cam channel I do not have a choice of where my videos are viewed - only UA-cam can do that. And I doubt even the game designer has a choice about where Steam chooses to sell all of their games - that's Steam's choice.
is not in french?
I don't know. The designer is from Ukraine, so I'm thankful it is even in English. 😉
In the game’s timeline there was no Ukraine, it was a Russian land called Malorossia
Which very few people today have ever heard of, so it is much easier to use the name Ukraine as everyone has heard of that.
@@NobleRambler not arguing at all, just adding my 2c for educational purpose
That's not correct. Only a part of Ukrainian lands (that divided by river Dnipro +-) was under Moskovia occupancy, and they called this lands Malorossia or Little Russia, but other part of lands by most of Europinian countries called as Ruthenia. And the south-western lands that were subordinated to the Poland in 1569 got the unofficial name Ukraina, but officially all territory of Ukraine they called it as Rusini. So it's more correct to call Ukraine or Ruthenia instead of Little Russia or Malorossia
@@ViGreen1 you’re incorrect. All that land was once called Rus, it was populated by Russians until Mongol invasion.
Ostriv is the main reason I despise Putin right now. Leave our boi alone so he can keep working on this beautiful game in peace!
It would be wonderful if this war could end soon!
thanks for watching.
Thx for playing in Ukrainian games!
You're welcome, though I'm primarily playing it because it is a great game (no matter where it was created).
It is a wonderful game, except for the white lines that still appear on the ground and drive my mental state down the drain. :D :D
When I went back into the game the white lines went away, so consider them a built in warning system that you need to get up and take a walk. 🤣 Otherwise it truly is a wonderful game. Thanks for stopping by!
Don't do cul-de-sacs. Bane of modern life. Stick to crossing streets, it's far more efficient for movement.
Oh, the cul-de-sac served its purpose to fit the available space at the time. But I see your point.
Thanks for watching.
This is definitely a fantasy game since Ukraine didn't exist in the 18th centuary.
It is just another way of saying that particular region and culture of the world.
@@2005OEFArmy Ukrainians were called Ruthenians. And during that time was the Cossack Hetmanate.
russian imperialists and nazis always come running to express their xenophobia towards Ukrainians
Дякую за Український вміст. Так ви мене не зрозумієте, це просто для просування.
Перекладач Google допомагає мені зрозуміти. Я насолоджуюся цією грою вже багато років. Євгеній чудово попрацював над його дизайном.
dude it took you 20 minutes to put down 2 houses we dont need that much commentary and we dont need to be given every detail about the game before you make a move.......just place the things and get to going.......
That's the great thing about UA-cam. If you find a channel that makes content just the way you like it, stick with it and support it. If the play-style frustrates you, move on. Or do what I did...start your own channel and make it your way, and don't let someone else make you change the way you enjoy playing games just to satisfy them. Make sense?
your video help me to understand the game. Thanks A lot...
coming here from @Skibitth's channel
Welcome! Skibitth is a lot of fun to watch. I only just discovered his channel. He certainly puts a smile on your face!
