  • WOOLWORTHS STRIKES
If you walked into a Woolies this week in some eastern states, things might have been looking pretty bare. Many shelves across Woolworths stores in Victoria, New South Wales, as well as the ACT, are looking pretty sparse right now, and it's all because of this. Yep, for more than a week now, lots of Woolworths employees have been on strike. And now, they're blocking some of the supermarket chain's biggest distribution centres which means it's pretty hard to get stock in and get stock out and onto shelves. The workers are demanding a pay rise as well as more realistic performance targets, which they say are dangerous and unsafe. While Woolworths argues their performance targets actually prioritise safety and fairness, and says the wage increase they're asking for is too high. So far, Woolies says it's already lost about 50 million dollars since the strike started, and many are hoping a deal can be reached soon, so workers can get back to work, and shelves can be filled in time for Christmas!
    BIDEN PARDON
US President, Joe Biden, has given his son Hunter Biden a presidential pardon. That's a special power given to the president, which means they can forgive a person for committing a federal crime, and the person won't face any legal penalties for that crime. Hunter Biden was facing sentencing for two federal cases, including not paying his taxes, and even though President Biden said he wouldn't pardon him, he changed his mind just before leaving office next month, sparking a lot of controversy and debate.
    BLIND MODELS
Now it's time to head to Adelaide, where blind and low-vision students are using 3D printed models to take their learning to the next level! From navigating a birds eye view of Uluru to feeling the unusual shape of a puffer fish, these students are using 3D printed models of objects to create mental images with their fingers! The models, which were created by researchers at Monash University have been a real game changer here at South Australia's school for vision impaired, and these students say they've helped them to better understand what objects look like in real life compared to traditional raised line drawings. And they've also been a big help to teachers who used to make their own models by hand, which took up a lot of time, and weren't as detailed. But now, with 3D printing, the models can be made quickly and shared to kids all over the world!
    YOUNGEST COLUMNIST
First up, to the UK, where 8-year-old Aneeshwar here has just become the youngest newspaper columnist in the world. He writes about animals for a kid's newspaper called First News. Some of the editing steps his work goes through are very similar to happens here at BTN. Aneeshwar also holds the record for the youngest documentary presenter. And along the way he got to meet one of his heroes, Steve Backshall. What a resume!
    PANDAS
Now to Hong Kong International Airport, where two and a half thousand little panda sculptures have taken over the tarmac. Over the next few weeks, these pandas will pop up around town, greeting tourists and locals.
    DOG PARADE LONDON
And finally to St James Park in London, where 130 pets and their people have gathered for a Christmas jumper parade. Of course, there were also prizes for best dressed, but, just looking around, how could you pick?
