I love how Four Tet just put soft touches around the edges, without putting any of the usual gimmicks he's known for. You really feel how much he respects Madlib's craftmanship

0:00 - There is no time
Just this title alone instantly brings my mind to the end of Madvillain's Shadows of tomorrow
"Another place in the universe, up under different stars
That would be where the alter destiny would come in
Equation wise, the first thing to do is to consider time as officially ended
We'll wake on the other side of time"

This song is an Afro-Cuban anthem written in Cuba by the mother of the more well known Ignacio Villa, a Black Cuban pianist more famously known as "Bola de Nieve."
Curiously the refrain that the young vocalist repeats after the chorus (which sounds like "Ee'go" or "I'go" sounds similar to what Jim Morrison of the Doors sang on the track "Break On Through (to the other side)" after the section that says "Every-body... loves-my-baby (2X)."

Since the time I was fortunate for my son to introduce me to Madlib, J DILLA, MF DOOM and so many other classic US musicians, I have followed their music keenly. This is a bomb of an album. Madlib yet again shatters our preconceived notions of sound, sequence, tone & texture to re-create musical codas as we accompany his voyage to a new land. I'm captivated by this entire album at first listen. Another one from the master!

You can hear the echos of hundreds of years worth of culture and music history in every track on this album. So many beautiful melodies and textures from every era, background and lineage compiled and collaged together by a couple of true heads. To say this album is a masterpiece really is an understatement..the spirits of all the greats, from jazz musicians to brazilian funk drummers, alive once again to create the ultimate afterlife supergroup album. I can definitely feel Dilla and DOOMs presence here too. Enough waffle but it made me feel the same as when I heard Untrue for the first time. Chills. Thanks.

Got off work yesterday excited as hell to listen to this album and ended up playing it 4 times start to finish since then... Absolute masterpiece in the upper echelon of Madlib's expansive discography. Four tet did a killer job with the sound engineering. Project sounds so polished in comparison to the lofi hip hop standard present on MOST madlib projects. Perfect album start to finish and a true testament to the longevity of Otis Jackson. I know it took a few minutes to convince the average bug-a-boo, but lets stop talking about DOOM, and give madlib the credit he deserves. Mans produced 90+ projects, 1 of which was with DOOM, and now the laggards can't do anything but talk about DOOM when Madlib just dropped EASILY one of the greatest hip hop projects in the last 10 years.
Hats off to Otis Jackson and Kieran Hebden. Brain dance meets hip hop done right.

      Maybe Irrelevant...but the Point is:
Madlib can rock an MPC or SP404 or an EMU or whatever Kind of Sampler. AND IF A YOUNGSTER wants to step in the Arena of sampling, he should begin with a Machine like that and should check out the history of Music...should check out how pragmatic geometrical Conducted Loops are working...! That's my Opinion, but also the Opinion of many other Cats. First the Duty, then the Cure.
