Do you mind if I ask you a question: How does it feel to have DID and how severely does it affect your life? I'm just curious but trying to stay sensitive.
@@itsmaddogofficial No worries, that's a big question though. In the beginning it was a lot like you see in this episode of MK, weird little things that add up until you think you're going crazy. People calling you the wrong name, saying you scheduled a date, etc. The vegan thing actually happened to me lol I used to be vegetarian but my alters would eat meat so people said they saw me eat meat and it was so confusing. Also similar to MK with the cellphone, I always found social media accounts on my phone under different names, with very different personalities. But the thing is I had some awareness like 20% of the time someone else was fronting. So the way it felt was that I was pretending to be someone else online, and I happened to black out when I was pretending. It sounds dumb but I didn't know any different so I genuinely thought other people blacked out a lot and hardly remembered anything. Then after I was diagnosed it opened the door, I wrote notes to my alters and responses started appearing. We started working on communication, and doing trauma work ofc which helped us grow closer because some alters were/are "hid away" to protect the rest of us from knowing their bad memories. Now I have blackouts a lot less but they still happen. If I'm close to an alter I will remember, for example where they went or who they talked to, but not the details. Otherwise switching in is like waking up. Kinda similar to the show in that, I don't go anywhere in between, my consciousness just skips ahead suddenly. But the show is pretty dramatized, it is more gradual and fuzzy, not just BOOM I'm somewhere else. Sometimes it happens in the middle of a conversation and I have no idea what I just said. Sometimes I still have dumb moments like, my alter will order a coffee and then later I'll ask whose it is (I don't drink coffee). But mostly we are good at communicating and keeping track of stuff, we all have our strengths and come out at different times, and we work well together.
@@Richie___Rich thats really interesting, and the way you write to yourself is really smart. Im glad its getting better for you! I love how the Anubis type creature is chasing Steven trying to kill him and then when he turns into moon knight the creature is scraping at the door trying to get out like nope no thank you
@@thenameless7810 What do you think Anubis is? He is the jackal headed God of the dead that's why I said Anubis type creature because it's not just a regular jackal
In the lore Anubis is like a judge, he judge whether you are worthy to live, if failed ammet will then devoured the victim. Anubis is a god not to be mistaken as a jackel. There are multiple jackel deity in the Egyptian legends.
I LOVE how on every reaction I see of Moon Knight. The reactors say the same thing I did watching the car scene " FINAL DESTINATION". We as a soceity have all been traumatized by those movies.
Just wanted to say, schizophrenia is having hallucinations and paranoia. Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is having multiple personalities within the same individual. They are very different things.
There is a trope in some of the comics that he IS hallucinating, that Moon Knight and Khonshu arent real. Unreliable narrator type stuff. So its implied he has both.
@@ryanparker4996 which you CAN have. You can have both schizophrenia and DID because they have very different symptoms. I know a few systems who have multiple mental health diagnosis...a few with schizophrenia and DID.
I agree with Rick about Gus the one-finned fish dying of starvation. it seems like Steven went to sleep, then Marc woke up and went to do a bunch of Moon Knight stuff in western Europe (including scarab stealing) but it took longer than he expected to get back due to Steven's interference. By the time Marc got back to England, Gus was dead. So Marc bought the new fish to cover for the excess lost time, then went to sleep. Then Steven (whose last memory was of the final destination logs killing those 2 guys) woke up screaming. Which is really kind of sad. I know it can be hard to keep goldfish alive even with daily care, but poor one-finned Gus didn't deserve his fate. Superheroes need care plans for their pets, their jobs are too unpredictable.

Yeah, they have pretty different symptoms. But you CAN have both disorders be comorbid. So you can have them both at the same time. But yeah, in this case it's just DID.
@@AnxietyRat it may well be both in this case, he sees a bloody Egyptian God, shouldn’t that point to Schizophrenia? Or do DID persons also see things that don’t or shouldn’t exist?
@@dlilwon They can. It's not super common but it can happen. That's the one gripe I have with the show. The dissociating is visually looking more like hallucinating...and they are not the same experiences. But yeah, some systems can visually see their alters in the world around them but most just communicate internally. Alters can also sometimes see their internal apperance in mirrors and not see the body. But other systems do see the body in mirrors but don't identify with its appearance... like looking at a stranger. It's a very varied disorder. Each system functions in different ways so it's a hard disorder to super accurately portray. As it's slightly different for each person. The Egyptian God would point to schizophrenia IF we didn't know that in this universe gods actually exist. And in this case an actual Egyptian God has chosen Marc to be his worldly Avatar. We meet other gods Avatars in a future episode from what screenshots have told me.
@@AnxietyRat in the current iteration of the comics Marc had schizophrenia signs as a child, and then when he became empowered developed DID because of the trauma.

With how DID actually functions there is no original personality. Because the trauma that happens to create DID happens before the personality is fully formed in a child. They are both equally real people.
@@Fivreld From the comics Marc is the host. he is the one the body is named after(that's not the case with every systems host but in this case Marc is also the host) and who has the DID diagnosis.

Man, Eric is so cavalier about his eye. I recently had eye surgery, not only to remove a cataract and implant a lens, but to remove the oil they put in the back of my eye during my previous surgery to reattach my retina, both of which involved the removal of the vitreous gel in my eye. My eye is a bit swollen and gnarly and red.

Just so you guys know there is a real mental disorder called Disassociate Identity disorder (DID) which include multiple identities within one body known as "alters" and stems from childhood trauma. Many of the memories of the alters are not shared which can mean loss of time for some. There are positions in this system but the one I want to talk about is "The Host" which is essentially the alter which is clueless to the existence of the system and is created as a defense mechanism to be able to life their day-to-day life without the burdens of past traumatic memories. While in real life DID comes from repeated trauma to children under 7ish, if I remember correctly, I believe that in the case of Moon Knight this is a result of the original Identity gaining the powers to become Moon Knight. Also as a side note people who have DID sometimes consider terms like Multiple Personality Disorder or referring to different Alters as "Personalities" outdated and offensive since although they split off from one mind they are full people with their own complexities and quirks. I am a friend of some people who have DID so I'm glad that so far Moon Knight has been able to present a piece of media that portrays the condition mostly accurately. Otherwise, loved the reaction, been watching for a while. :)
A common misconception is that moon knight itself is a separate persona like Steven, but it’s actually just Marc with an extra thirst for vengeance, same with mr. Knight except he’s a more calm and collected version of Marc, while Steven and his other personality are completely different identities
I think we're gonna see Marc's perspective. How he killed those people and the car chase scene and I think the broken jaw was caused by him falling from the castle.
The girl asking about the reeds I’m presuming was actually asking Marc, since in the comics he actually dies and is brought back by Khonshu (the bird skull in mummy rap) and that’s when he gets his powers, how she knew about that and if she really is a just a random little girl (unlikely) idk tho
The reason Marc was telling steven give him control because he knows how to use and summon the suit and whenever Steven passed out while driving the truck it was mark fighting because he was a mercenary before he became moon knight, and the dude calling steven a parasite was konshu the moon God
Um... these guys are not well-informed with Moon Knight and his origin. Let them find out about who the "God" is when the show reveals it to them organically.
"What else makes sense!? That he went to Germany, saw someone's life-force get eaten, when in and out of consciousness..." Why, yes, Aaron. That is exactly what happened.
Also it is not called Split personality or multiplier Personality disorder any more it is now called Dissociative Identity Disorder or DiD. and it is when a person, most likely a kid goes through repeated trauma and the mind can't handle it anymore so the brain creates an alter to protect itself from harm. and that alter is know as a protector. But, the alters do have real memories and they are also real people. This was a good way of showing how involuntary alter changes are. For what I know about DiD, you can really lose days even when one of you alters decides to front. Seems Steven is a fairly new-ish alter so whatever happened to Marc to make Steven take over for so long must’ve pretty large trauma (which alters are born/created which is through Massive trauma). I appreciate the fact they (the host and alters) Haven’t made an “Evil” alter yet. Again DiD is about managing trauma not causing it. Yes, some alters (known as Protecters) can be rougher on the outside ( aka in front while the host is in the mind). But, never straight-up causing problems on purpose only to protect the host and the other alters. And Marc is the host as for Steven he is the one who is the most out aka in front so he can have some social life. Also Marc always had DiD as a kid/teen he has 4-5 alters
Omg someone who knows what DID is and didnt say split personalities. The amount of reactors/commentors iv seen call it split or multiple personalities is astounding. Also I think Jane from "Doom Patrol" is also a good exmaple of an alter fronting majority of the time. Im glad the shows are doing there work when it comes to disabilities & disorders.
Steven does give permission for Marc to take control at the end, so there’s a chance he actually is aware of what’s going on at the end. But maybe not, I doubt they’d want to have all the Steven being confused storyline end at episode 1. Not sure though.
Just to clean up Aaron's thoughts/questions Speculation/Potential Spoilers - - - - Steven and Marc are in one body. They are a person who has DID. However, Marc during some sort of mission doing whatever he does was possessed by a God or something that allows Marc to become Moon Knight, but Steven can not.
@43:45 IIRC this was the premise of a short-lived TV show, "My Own Worst Enemy", starring Christian Slater as a mild-mannered family man with a split personality that's a Jason Bourne type.
Oscar Issac killed it in this first episode in a matter of 40 minutes we went from not knowing anything about him to character development for this guy and felt for him and were rooting for him.
If you ask me, Moon Knight feels more like their getting back to their Netflix MCU roots, making me think they could’ve introduced Moon Knight a lot sooner and on Netflix with Daredevil and co
The mummy you guys see following Steven around is actually the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu who gave Marc Spector his Moon Knight Powers. It's his voice we hear throughout the episode instructing him. Also if you guys notice, every mirror shot of steven has 3 reflections, this is deliberate as there are 3 alters in that body, Marc Spector, Steven Grant and Jake Lockley. I'd say we learned about Steven in this episode, in the next one we'll learn about Marc and get a glimpse of Jake, and in the third one we'll learn about Jake and the show will go full auto from there.
26:22 Schizophrenia doesn't have multiple personalities. They can have delusions, the can have hallucinations, they can be disorganized or maybe kinda emotionally flattened affect... but split personalities is not schizophrenia
22:40 - There is more than just Steven and Marc. During the scene at 7:40, the voice knows it's not Marc... yet it only realizes it's talking to "the idiot" a few moments later.
When he is on the phone. What if he is talking to Marc!! Leaving messages and then marc can listen to them when he is in control so he knows what Steven is doing!!
I’m pretty sure Konchu, Marc and Steven are all existing in the entity. When driving the truck, Konchu talks to marc, “Wake up Marc! If he (Steven) loses the scarab, I will kill you both.” When Steven threw the gun, Konchu says to Marc, “Did he (Steven) just throw the gun?”

Just wanted to say, schizophrenia is having hallucinations and paranoia. Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is having multiple personalities within the same individual. They are very different things.
Yeah, most people use the terms interchangeably. It doesn't bother me, I don't blame anyone for not knowing everything.
You don't need to have paranoia to have schizophrenia. You need a combination of negative and positive symptoms to have schizophrenia.
@@AnxietyRat Do you know if it is possible for an Alter to have schizophrenia and others not, in the same system?

Not Schizophrenia, it's Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Schizophrenia is something different.
Yeah, very common misconception which Eric mentioned. But you can still relate his experiences of schizophrenia like hallucinations and voices in your head or thinking you're someone else.

With how DID actually functions there is no original personality. Because the trauma that happens to create DID happens before the personality is fully formed in a child. They are both equally real people.

Dissociative* don't worry 90% of the time I can't spell that word either lmao
@@jaytiny8 bro ngl i spent 5 minutes on that word alone and stll spelt it wrong lol
A common misconception is that moon knight itself is a separate persona like Steven, but it’s actually just Marc with an extra thirst for vengeance, same with mr. Knight except he’s a more calm and collected version of Marc, while Steven and his other personality are completely different identities
Aaron singing and dancing “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” is the best thing ever
I think we're gonna see Marc's perspective. How he killed those people and the car chase scene and I think the broken jaw was caused by him falling from the castle.
The girl asking about the reeds I’m presuming was actually asking Marc, since in the comics he actually dies and is brought back by Khonshu (the bird skull in mummy rap) and that’s when he gets his powers, how she knew about that and if she really is a just a random little girl (unlikely) idk tho
Maybe the girl is just in his imagination in his head since Steven really wants to be a tour guide.
One of Mark's personalities is a little girl ... I think that's her
The reason Marc was telling steven give him control because he knows how to use and summon the suit and whenever Steven passed out while driving the truck it was mark fighting because he was a mercenary before he became moon knight, and the dude calling steven a parasite was konshu the moon God
Um... these guys are not well-informed with Moon Knight and his origin. Let them find out about who the "God" is when the show reveals it to them organically.
So Konshu is the God that lends “Moon Knight” (aka Mark) his powers correct?
The rare Aaron prediction being dead wrong (that he was dreaming, no way it could have been real, etc).
"What else makes sense!? That he went to Germany, saw someone's life-force get eaten, when in and out of consciousness..."
Why, yes, Aaron.
Thank you very informative. I also recommend a youtuber who has DID. I can’t remember the name but they did in an interview with Anthony Padilla
