There are few people who frustrate me more. I would just want to hold them by the shoulders and very firmly look them in the eye while I say "Get this through your fat head, being overweight does not mean you belong to some sort of discriminated minority group. I was even bigger than her when I was at my max weight, it would have been nice not getting beaten up because of it, and by that I mean actual violence, not words because and this is important to get through your fat head. Words are not violence. The reason I was fat was simple, I put more unhealthy food inside my body than I did healthy food and I didn't exercise. It is a slam dunk not more complicated than that. Is there some kind of mental component to it? Of course, for example I still felt like I was fat even when I had my six pack, I needed to get fat again and then get a somewhat normal looking body before I could then finally see that I was a normal human being. But at the end of the day no matter what, there is no such thing as being healthy no matter what your weight is, just like there is no such thing as a healthy way of drinking or doing H or coke everyday. You want to keep being fat, that is okay, that is your choice you get to choose what kinda life you have and what kinda body you want, you do not however get to tell other people just because they don't find you attractive that they are now biggots because of it. Why did I suddenly have a shot with women who previously would never have looked at me twice when I was a gym rat?"

She started a health journey, not a weight loss journey. Her focus was getting healthy. Her weight loss was a side effect of that, but you get the sense that even if she didn't have a physical transformation it was still important to her to make those healthy changes in her outlook, and I admire her for that.

I get what you're both saying. My meaning is more that her weight loss came from a place of healthy changes. A lot of people in the public eye put the focus solely on the weight loss aspect and try to reach their goals with fad diets or unsustainable habits, so they may lose weight but they aren't maintaining their health.
Focusing on health means that you're not solely focused on the numbers on the scale going down - you're focused on your breathing getting better, on your appetite stabilising, on your joints working better. Those are the wins, and while looking great in a swimsuit is another win, it's not healthy if that's the main goal that needs to be reached at the cost of health.

@@moonlightbae6143 If losing weight was the sole focus, she could have done those fad diets or those teas that are basically laxatives. She would have lost the weight, but her health would have been trashed.

Genetic doesn't make anyone naturally obese, eating too much does, hormone imbalance could make someone sluggish-> moving less and slightly bigger. Genetic could be a factor to food addiction, frame size(I haven't yet seen a human with a horizontal build so this is limited as well). But none of those causes obesity without eating an abnormal amount of calories. When people said they eat like 1600 calories a day at 300 pounds I'd call them saviors of the world, they should go to the doctor, get a Nobel prize because their science defying superior genetics could end world hunger and food shortages 😜

To all of y’all saying that this shows real body positively because she “doesn’t glorify obesity” I hope you realize that Rebel isn’t saying anything new. She said that she looked great at all sizes. She talked about the bias the world shows against fat people. She said that there is no point in fitting a beauty standard and that everyone should explore their health at their own pace in a way that’s right for them. She had an unhealthy relationship with food that she worked hard to overcome and she set an incredibly difficult goal for herself at a time in her life when she had the time, energy, and resources to do so. She didn’t do it when she was in law school, or when she was building her career in the U.S., or when she was recovering from the loss of her father, or any of the times in between. She did it when she was ready. The Rebel Wilson that was in law school, building a career, mourning her father- and ALL moments in between- that Rebel deserved to feel proud and beautiful and respected in her body, too.
!! ** Allowing fat people to love themselves will not make obesity the beauty standard nor will it erase the health risks and physical limitations that come with it. There are ways to discuss these issues so that they aren’t linked to the shame or devaluation of the people who have fat bodies. Weight-related health factors truly should be a medical conversation saved for such spaces- like here, where Rebel is willingly opening up a dialogue about her struggles with health - not an Instagram comments section debating whether or not a size 18 woman at the beach should be allowed a compliment. But this is because people rarely want to talk about obesity in its medical context. They want to talk about obese PEOPLE, framing medical concerns as an evil that obese people represent and pose the danger of inflicting onto others- as a justification for why these people should be considered an undesirable population and prohibited from engagement with certain objects, places, and experiences that are well within practical means. It is a prejudice that we have yet to grow past as a society because it allows those who are not fat to feel both internally/externally superior to fat people as well as in control of their health.
I’m happy for Rebel and I’m thankful for the way she handled this topic. I wish I could say that she’d be met with the same respect if she had brought this up as a fat woman, but sadly I just can’t see that happening. Regardless, I’m grateful that she is able to talk about it now, and I hope her words will inspire others to see that the health concerns related to obesity are scary, but we don’t have to insult fat bodies or suppress the self-esteem of the people who inhabit them to tackle it.

I hope it’s not too late for me. I will say at my heaviest I weighed 314 pounds that was approximately 45 years ago. Life goes by so quickly and I did lose 102 pounds approximately 40+ years ago… But I gained it back in seven years. If anybody out there wants to say one or two prayers for me that I do better, I would appreciate it greatly. 😢

@rebelwilson was and still is an attractive woman for many reasons other than physical. Her movie roles have brought joy to all of us. Good on her, though, for recognizing an issue with her eating and correcting that mentally in her life. Her journey through this has inspired many, and I hope she finds long term peace & fulfillment in her life.

Her self deprecating wit was just one of the many glorious things about Rebel. Now she's a vision of perfection that won't fly anymore. I hope she will find other ways to entertain with her dazzling personality and unbreakable confidence.

I'll be honest, I've struggled to be a fan of Rebel because I simply don't resonate with her "comedy" (just not funny, to me), yet I've always been impressed by her intelligence and her naturally STUNNING good looks. Her face shape, teeth, eyes, smile, just simply beautiful. Now I just hope she allows herself to be vulnerable and to emerge as a beautiful soul and to let go of the attitude. I say this because I have an attitude that few people warm to, but they don't know my vulnerability or the totally fkd up journey I had to endure to become the Me that I'm learning to love and fully embrace. My channel, Vox Femina reflects my journey or in part, the journey I see so many women taking... And if I can help change the life of one woman through my 5 minute videos, then that's my commitment. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

She has always been very attractive. She looks amazing now, but she was still pretty when she was bigger. I think that her reasons for doing this are great though. She wants children, she is taking that seriously and she wants to be as healthy as she can be. Good for her.

The way I see this very deep story as is Rebel will always have a huge huge fanbase of when she was this funny quirky big girl who flaunted her stuff and didn't care who cared, because it was very relatable to many many women out there.. People want that confidence. People want this old rebel back to suite their own ideals of her and her character, and keep that as relatable to themselves as possible, but she knew for a fact that she wanted more. She got healthy. She changed physically and got HEALTHIER. She is still her. I applaud her every movement, and so should everyone else. I absolutely fell in love with her as her bigger girl comedic self, who really did shape people's outlooks on themselves. But I see too many comments and too many people expressing that they don't support her change or journey and want this old rebel back. Shame on you if you're that type of "fan". Who she used to show herself as was enough to gain the interest of many people on the same boat, and now she is going the further mile to show them all the next step in improvement. Society now will overlook every good positive thing you do, and prey on you until you make a mistake and that's what you become known for. Disgusting.

One could see that , even though she was chubby, she was pretty. Now she is beautiful. Acting wise there will be changes, I suspect, but also new opportunities. As for her fertility I hope she finds love first as children are not toys. They are us, people. So , we can't plan everything and relationships do break down but planning helps. A family will always be the best foundation for a child to grow into, as nature intended.

As a person who became a mother earlier than expected (I was 22) and gained a lot of weight because I wasn't surrounded by people who were ever familiar with the disposition of pregnancy --- It's so cool to see a "celebrity" lose weight for a positive reason. She didn't lose the weight to get a role etc. She did it for herself. I gained about 50 lbs over what a normal mother is supposed to gain during pregnancy. As a woman at 5'2, this was really hard for me to live with. But those hormones totally took over.
    I couldn't walk like I used to ---
my partner describes that time in my life as me "waddling."
I hated how I looked in the mirror obviously.
But one day I just said to myself NO. I'm NOT going to look like this for the rest of my life.
There was a time before then where I couldn't eat much due to being poor, and I decided to just re-do that "diet" to get myself back to close to my pre pregnancy weight. I went from 177 to 135 in 7 months of intermittent fasting. No exercise. Nothing else. But I had to almost what felt like starve myself.
I am 29 about to be 30 in 2 weeks, and I stress my age because extreme intermittent fasting is dangerous for a lot of normal folks. But it worked for me. And I am so grateful to be 130 today, 127 on a really good day at the doctor, lol.

I have always felt for so many celebrities who are treated like the 'fat funny' one. It happens to a lot of them and you see them consistently landing roles that encompass that. I totally understand why she wanted to strive for health and transform herself. I'm especially proud of her for losing weight the way she did purely out of exercise and eating healthy, that's really good to see.
