Today we are reviewing late Summer of 2021 purchase for mysef, the Seiko Turtle PADI edition, SRPA21.
I think everyone should own a turtle at least once in their lifetime, so I got one.
A true classic and almost a one to one copy of the legendary 6309, it really is a beautiful and timeless watch, while the PADI part brings some cool colors to the turtle lineup.
How did I like it and did will I keep it?
    Watch and find out!!

@@garynico9872 Yeah. I mean, it's a great entry level piece but I just found better things and never wear it anymore. The movement is great, great accuracy, can't complain about that. The bracelet is awful, the crown is ridiculously small, a very big negative for me. It's not actually an iso certified diver like the skx is or other entry level pieces. I've come to feel like Orient watches just feel cheap to me. They don't have that weight or feel of quality when you're holding it in your hand like other watches do. That's not to say I don't still have good memories with Orient, I love the Bambino, I've got three of them. I just don't think their diver style watches are very good anymore.

I scratched my particular Seiko diver itches this summer with an SKX009 and a slightly modded SNE518 Prospex "Save The Ocean" Tuna. The Tuna is clearly the better watch and despite what look like enormous proportions, it actually wears really well on my 6.75 in wrist as the lug to lug is so short. The SKX is flawed but I love it, not despite that, but because of that. I'm one of those odd people that believe machines can have a soul; the Spitfire is the prime example of a machine that transcends its inanimate object status into something almost visceral. I owned an Alfa... not because it was a great car but because it was flawed... beautifully hopeless. The SKX isn't hopeless; it is far from perfect but it has a soul and it's precisely because of that, it will remain in the collection indefinitely. I would recommend both, even if the Tuna is more of a holiday romance.

I've owned this watch for around 4 years now and its always in my weekly watch rotation.. I say that but I cant stop wearing the Seiko Willard at the moment. I love the Padi branding and it wears perfectly on 7.5 inch wrist.

This watch is a workhorse, I have put a lot of time diving with this watch and it has never failed me. Love the nod to the Captain Willlard, would love an original but the juice isn’t worth the squeeze as it would not be something I could dive with.

I agree, my SKX 009 is a much better watch. I got rid of my Nemo because I didn’t like the Prospex branding, I think it cheapens the watch. I also didn’t like the bracelet. They are solid but not as comfortable as the older, tapered bracelets. My 6309 turtle is still the pinnacle in my opinion. Great review.

This watch was my second Seiko PADI after the SUN065 (Kinetic GMT), I sold it after a couple of months, just didn't connect with him like with the Kinetic.
Cool watch, wears nice even on a smaller wrist due to shorter lug-to-lug, just wasn't getting any wrist time.

I bought one when Seiko first released the turtle. At first i loved it, but then after a week it started losing 40 seconds+ a day , then i noticed the well documented misalignment, but the main thing was and I can’t put my finger on it, i just fell out of love with it very quickly, maybe it was the size maybe i was expecting too much as far as quality was concerned, I don’t know, but its what annoys me about modern seiko in the £300-£1000 price bracket, they flatter to decieve too much

  • @Splash111

Seikos are the Glock of watches. Decent, nothing lines up, no sapphire...solid performance but much better choices out there. My CZ and Beretta will shoot a nats eyelash out...I've shot Glocks....same with Seiko...super unimpressed for what you pay.

I had the same experience. I love the Turtle, but Seiko did not have to upsize the case. Even on a 7 inch wrist, the watch is too big.
I ended up buying a Mini Turtle.
All these Prosex watches have too much text in the dials, and the Prospex logo sucks.

I happily scratched my SKX itch with its replacement the cognoscenti all hate. The only downside is the downside most automatic watches have, which is that they expect you to wear them everyday. I'm not referring to the movement, but rather the needless inclusion of a day/date complication. And complication is a perfect way to describe those features.
But even before smartphones became the norm I struggled to understand why anyone would need to know what day it was or the day of the week when under water.

i want an skx013 but its hard to pay high second hand prices for such a crummy movement. also, im not sure if i could trust the water resistance without paying for a service and id want to get it wet regularly... any thoughts on something similar?
itd have to be 38 mm or less, so there really aren't many options. i also hate fully lumed bezels so all of the long island watch skx copies are no good for me.
