    Those ACS-64s seem to be pretty powerful. I hope someone turns their design to a freight version to run on the NEC just like how GG1s did their part in the 70s.

      I imagine what you are talking about is the future of trains. I think they will work and look mostly the same, but they will mostly use overhead wires, go about the same speeds, because, lots of the tracks that already exist today will last a while, and there's nowhere else for the tracks to go! Also, non-electric locos will still be largely used, because there will probably be a large amount of routs where overhead wires will be too hard to manage.

    • @turnerdeedo4633
      @turnerdeedo4633 4 роки тому

      @@eastcoastrailproductions5559 Probably you could pull freight with a loco like that, but not at very high speeds like the passenger locos can, and the trains would have to be shorter anyway to handle traveling at 90-100 mph.

    6:07 A diesel? Raritan Valley Line ?
    A platform only on one side of the tracks ? And a short platform on a curving short spur track to some factories ?? A turn back for trains to go back to Newark ??
    I saw a full length train pull into the spur track at 31:28, and back out at 35:57. That must be a bitch to cross 3 tracks of a race track railway to get onto it's operating track back to Penn Station ? How awkward it must be oftentimes for scheduling. Aarre Peltomaa

      @NortheastRailroadFanner Рік тому

      Ok so, The diesel was a equipment move most likely going to Morrisville yard. The other platform is located on the side of the nec so trains have to reverse over 4 tracks and go back to what they were doing on the other side.

    (Googles MP20-B)
    I see it has an MTU 12V4000 prime mover. So a smaller version (12 cylinders) of the 16 cylinder engine used in the HST re-power project. Not as good sounding as a Valenta of course, but still half-decent, especially under load.

      Electrification was started on the nec at the height of the Pennsylvania Railroad, New York central, and New Haven railroads. That itself took a while. If you want high speed electrified trains in the whole US, then it’s gonna take billions of dollars, a countrywide effort, and people who want to ride trains in the first place instead of cars. It’s gonna take the same effort as the interstate highway. Not to mention the tracks elsewhere are old and worn out. Some parts haven’t been replaced in over 100 years. But it would be nice to go from Philadelphia to San Francisco in a largely reduced time though.
