(Chaikov'skij Pjotr Il'ych) Édition Jurgenson Fréres, SACEM
as shown here, it can very well be applied to certain 20th-Century pop compositions such as:

Nice to see these old dances being kept alive. However - Galop (with one l) is how you spell the dance. Gallop (with two ls) refers to a particular gait of a horse.

Thank you for the note. Gallop is short for the full name Gallopade which wat integrated into many quadrilles as an 8 count slide.

Your are quite right about it being shortened. However the spelling is usually Galop (1 l) shortened from Galoppade (one l and 2 ps). Spelling was very irregular 300 or more years ago, so there may well have been several versions of each word.
