  • This video is an overview of preparing and installing a submersible well pump for a home application. This video is not a how-to video; it is just to show the process of installing a pump for the do-it-yourself crowd.
In this video, you will see the Aqua Science service technicians prepare the pump by attaching the wires, applying the heat shrink splice kits to seal the connection, attaching the pump to the poly pipe, and attaching the torque arrestor. They then lower the pump into the well, securing the wire to the pipe at a set distance. Finally, they attach the pipe to the pitless adapter, creating the connection to the house.
*Please note that they are only using electrical tape to secure the wire to the well pipe incrementally because they are installing a small "Simple Pump" (hand pump) next to the main pump. In a normal installation, we would recommend using plastic wire guides instead of tape*
    This system includes:
    - 10GS07 (10 gallons/min, 3/4HP) Goulds Submersible Pump (bit.ly/2uQjezG)
    - 180' Submersible Well Poly Pipe (bit.ly/2tutObD)
    - 180' Submersible Wire (3 wire w/ ground, twisted) (bit.ly/2tDjimG)
    - 10' Direct Burial Wire (3 wire w/ ground) (bit.ly/2tDjimG)
    - 1" Stainless Steel Pitless Adapter (bit.ly/2gXdkHb)
    - Clear Heat Shrink Splice Kit (bit.ly/2upMADP)
    - Torque Arrestor (bit.ly/2upMADP)
    - Hose clamps (bit.ly/2upMADP)
    - Various Stainless Steel fittings (bit.ly/2mDHsIt)

When you push the two ends together it becomes like a diamond shape , which in turns places friction on the side of the casing . Keeping the pump from "spinning " when there is a call for water .

I add a check valve at the pump along with a torque arrestor over the wire splice and definitely a poly braided safety rope! And a few more wraps of tape securing the wire to the pipe, but other than that, nice video!

I agree, a better Video would show the torque arrestor importance and setup and also installation of marine grade rope on the Pump to pull it next time. I also used Well grade flat wire that has (in my Well) four conductors and large conductor Stranded Wire. (I pulled my Well twice to repair power wires from the original installation). 100% Stainless Hose Clamps instead of the cheap ones is a must also? Our Well is 400ft. deep and the pump is down 135ft. Also, our Well head is down 3 feet from the surface with a small "manhole cover" so we can mow over it without a Pipe sticking up and no fear of frost or debris. Aqua Science is a great company to do business with, thanks for the Video and allowing customer input!

Dear Austin. I have been installing submersible pumps for a very long time and what I pointed out was that good practice was not employed . Firstly, if the poly breaks or becomes detached how do you recover the pump? If the cable snaps while trying to recover the pump you have a pump in the hole to try and recover, this is why a stainless cable or rope is used to pull the pump easily and safely. The staggering of the electrical connecters gives a lower profile as well as additional isolation of the joints. Mate, you might se this as nit picking but I can assure I have never had a pump failure but have pulled pumps that have had "flashovers" from joints side by side. In Australia industry standards demand double insulated powers cables down hole. Anyway as long as you thought it was great thats all that matters.

Had it happen one time and pump got hung up. Took a heavy weight and beat it down to the bottom of the casing and then just put a new pump in and left the old one at the bottom lol

    Hello I have some questions.
Why are you not using PVC coated 4 core (Cabtyre)? From what i understand you should be using a marine grade cable. Usually blue or green in color.
Do your pumps have a thermistor on for over temperature?
Do you not put on a cooling shroud over the motor and pump to force water flow over the motor? ( It happens that the water on the pump remains stagnant and pulls more from the top. also the flow usually has to be 0.15 Cubes an hour over the motor.)
Why do you not use a resin join kit on your electrical connections? That heat shrink cant be waterproof to more than 10 meters .
Why are you using electrical tape? Is it a waterproof tape ? if not all it will do is end up in your pump.
Don't you guys get issues with pump twisting as it start and braking wires off ? maybe leaving a bit of slack towards the bottom end will help with this.
As some one mentioned you need a support cable. A pump in a bottom of hole is nearly impossible to get out.
Thank you for taking the time to make the video i just think a few things could have been to regulation.

I, for one, really appreciated this video.... (yah, I've endured/learned from lots of the long-winded install videos, but here, just cool to have the images, as a detailed, yet efficient review, nicely done, with jazz...) One question: What's the 2 inch tape you're using? (The install I'm replacing had a significant cable nick, about 3 feet above the pump.... (75 ft down) So yes, I'm with you in wanting to use extra tape -- creating a bumper of sorts. I started today with 3M "rubber" splicing tape...... but oh my, what a pain to use... (1 roll not near enough) Looks like you're using a 2+ in wide tape.... Can't quite make out the name? Also 3M? Is it rated submersible and/or waterproof too? (The pump I'm replacing - yes -- had bits of black electrical tape that had fallen off then got stock around pump intake.... so yes, serious question about what tape you're using. thanks)

While I’m sure this install will last many years I would like to see an extra check valve above the pump, actual conduit not pex as well as a safety rope. Btw that guy likes his tape haha

    • @codykelley2446
      @codykelley2446 4 роки тому

LT Wilson even if it has a cheaply made check valve inside the pump, it is still going to force water up into the standing water right? That creates water hammer I’m pretty sure. The only thing about this pump install is that it looks to be only about 100 feet of pipe so it may not need a check valve as bad

    • @jsaud2

In any bore hole over 20' depth it should be at least 10% above the bottom of the bore, up to about 30' above bottom of bore hole on wells deeper than 300'. That's a general rule of thumb- the closer it is to the bottom of the bore the more likely it is to be affected by sand/gravel/mud etc.

while I will use a torch in less demanding applications on wire shrink connections (say on a 12v connection that was never going to get wet) I would never do so if I thought it was important (like a connection submersed in water). A heat gun/blower would give a better seal and not run the risk of comprising the factory sealed rubber around the wires.

Drilling and casing the hole in Texas runs about $15 per foot. My well is 180 feet deep.
A Franklin or grundfos pump run about $800. The wire to go down the whole is about $2 a foot, And schedule 80 1 1/4" PVC is also about $2 a foot. Pipe couplings for every 20' section I think of run about $6. At least one check valve is needed. .. not sure how much for that.

Also, we've been installing pumps for over 35 years and the pvc pipe tape stays on like a pro. So far so good. Be sure to touch base with us again in the future to see how we're doing. Thanks.
