So far it's been 10 amazing episodes, here is what we know. There are 3 fishermen, first one being Peter patzer, the second one was Average Joe, and the last one wad Bobby Fischer. They are all friends, with one exception, Bobby has the highest elo with estimation of 2800, Joe has a elo with estimation of 1400, and Peter has the lowest elo with approximately 700 elo. They were first seen stuck on an island, where another fisherman appeared. He had 2 boats however he could only take one of them. Bobby got the boat and we didn't hear from the other 2 until episode 3. Bobby solved the sea monsters chess puzzle while sailing. And was suddenly swallowed by a whale with his 2 friends. They solved a puzzle and got out. Basically the rest is solving puzzles and going south. Going through crystal caves and now is in enchanted garden with a talking mushroom
"They are all friends, with one exception". So, which two aren't friends? With the mention of their Elo ratings which follows, are you suggesting a 2800 Elo cannot be friends with a 700 Elo? From the story as told by Nelson, I did not get the impression their friendship had an exception, nor that their Elo ratings played any role in their friendshipness.
must now wonder; will they get off the island and go home like they want, or will capablanca send them on the quest to one of the other dozen or so locations to complete this fancy map? time will tell. cant wait. love the saga of the 3 fishermen
One point omitted in the final line where black does not play d6 early: after Kxa4, the trick of playing Qxf3 Ka3 Qc3 doesn't work, because Bxc3 is NOT stalemate, since black still has d6 available as a move.
At 4:43, kxb3 doesn't work because qe3 pins the bishop to the king and there's no checkmate threat. It's a common technique, where a pawn is used for the king to be hidden from checks, and at this certain position, from the pin.
Hey man great video! I think it would be cool if the puzzles were given with some context. For example, instead of having the mushroom king say "before I tell you where to go, you need to solve this puzzle," you could have him say "I've been having trouble with this puzzle for years now, if you help me solve it, I'll help you find who you need." It's a small change that would help add to the sense that the fisherman are completing quests on their adventure. Really enjoying the content though, you're easily my favorite chess channel on youtube!
Then black could move queen to a5 forcing us to take the pawn woth the king and after that he could give us perpetual check or could move queen to b4, forcing us to take the queen with the king and that's a stalemate becaus black can't move anything Perhaps black could even find a way to win the game with the right checks, although I can't see it EDIT: or black could go to b4 directly, one move earlier, forcing us to take the queen and stalemate them

They are talking to giant glowing mushrooms. The giant glowing mushrooms are talking back. I believe that the little old lady put magic shrooms in their meal and they are all tripping. 😂😂 Great puzzle. I just couldn't resist the magic mushrooms joke.
Old lady is probably an evil Hansel and Gretel style witch, planning on luring the fishermen, and definitely drugged them. Nelson introduced her as a "friendly" old woman, but she was willing to let those men starve if they didn't play her game (fall into her lure), she's evil!

@@kuahkokyew6316 1. Kc3 doesn't address the promotion threat of the c-pawn. Black pushes and queens with check, and if White's knight takes the b2 pawn retakes and Black doesn't get another queen, he instead would get a knight and protect his other b-pawn, then White's playing to at best draw unless blunders happen. 1. Nc1 is the only way to stop that promotion while creating mate threats.
I could be missing something, but first move as Kc4 seems simpler. Black still has to do a4 to protect the b pawn, then Kb4 with the idea of Ka3 and Bxb2#. Black can stall by pushing the d pawn or promote the h pawn but we get mate immediately after promotion.
If 1. Kc4 right away Black DOESN'T have to push 1. ...a4. He can promote his c-pawn to a queen or rook, which would be check. If the knight takes, 2. ...Bc2 creates an avenue of escape for the Black king while maintaining other promotion threats. If instead White takes on b3 with the king, Black moves his queen/rook to c2 and the attack on b2 is all but evaporated.
For the first move, why did it need to be the knight move first? Why not move the king? That avoids the discovered chess, and the knight can still take the new queen
White just stays on the long diagonal with the bishop. Black would be in zugzwang then. None of his other pieces/pawns can move and the queen has to surrender defense of b2, allowing the bishop to mate.
Because the only piece that black can move is the queen, and is black's turn, so black is obligated to move the queen, and when the queen moves, it stops defending the B2 square, and the bishop takes the pawn and white wins
That's my total, too. (Having all the Black pawns on the board helps here.) The minimal amount comes from situations like the g-pawn ending up on c2 (or the g-pawn ending up on f5 and the f-pawn ending up on c2), the e-pawn ending up on b3, and the c-pawn ending up on a5. There don't seem to be any other "usual" clues, but it *looks* legal to me.
