About Us:
We are a family of 6 currently building our dream home our 20 acre homestead in North Idaho. We garden, raise rabbits, chickens, sheep, homeschool, and do just about everything that we can ourselves to achieve a self sufficient and debt free life for our family.

Melissa, you were smiling with such wild abandon, your face must hurt from being so happy!!!! It was so smart to get two, so you can safely ride in pairs. Everyone in the family will learn and as the seasons progress, I wouldn't be surprised to see another trailer coming up the drive with more horses for the family. I watched your video and my thoughts went to my 91 year old aunt. She loved her horse Lacey so much - their bond was so pure.and impenetrable. I think Lacey is 28 and my aunt got her when she was 7. My loving Aunt had to be restricted from riding her just this past 5 years for health reasons and passed quietly this morning to be with our Lord. Thank you for such a heart warming video.

You just gave me hope Kerry.... gained a lot of weight and stopped riding our horses years ago, now I'm 70, but trying again to lose weight. If your aunt rode till she was 86, maybe I will too.... Our last horse is 28, had him 22 years so far, a pretty, grey, half Arab..... who knows? Wasn't this a great video?

Congrats! I love horses. I worked as a trail guide and my horse was a palimino. He was rescued and afraid of males. I worked on retraining him and became the best horse. He lived to be 29.

Jeremy, you better be careful. At our house it started out as my wife always wanted a horse after having them as a child. So we got the place fenced in and got our first horse. Now we have 4 horses and it is awesome!
You can tell that you're happy. It's seems you have a lot to be happy for. What a place to live and raise your family. I'm so happy for you and Jeremy, yall have a love for each other and it shows. Your children all seem so happy and adjusted to this lifestyle. And then add your horses, they seem to love it there, it didn't take long. Thank all of you for sharing your home with us.
Huge congratulations!!! A special day!! Remember, a horse can feel a fly land on it, they are very sensitive, so I would go easy with the hand slapping. I don’t do it but know it’s a human habit that horses tolerate. Give them a little scratch or firm massaging rub, which they do really like.

I gently disagree here for your children's safety Melissa. Gently swatting your horses all over their bodies will help desensitize them. When trail riding in the woods around you there are always tree branches that will swat your horses suddenly. It's safer to have a horse desensitized to sudden swats than be riding a runaway freight train in the woods. Many injuries to both riders and equines happen due to lack of training in this area. You have beautiful horses with a great start in their training, but a horse can never have too much training in all disciplines.

Hard to watch while I'm balling with joy watching you take these rescue horses. They are so beautiful!
A video is only 2 dimentional but this one projected so many sides and dimensions!. The joy and passion is palpable and it's rubbed off to your family. I remember growing up, the work associated with horses and that's all a part as well - I know that'll be included in the entire process there. So very happy for you all. The breadth of their (the kids) education has just grown.

What a great day, brings back so many memories of my youth and young adult days. One memory I have is my son asking for a horse as a child, so we brought him a rocking pony. The next year he asked again for a horse, and we reminded him about his rocking horse collecting dust over in the corner, and he said, no dad I want a real horse. Enjoy

When I was a teenager living in upstate NY I had an Appaloosa mare, I used to saddle her up and just head out into the woods during a snow storm, it was soo peaceful, your horses brought back memories, and the longing to get out of the concrete jungle and to be able to ride again in peace and quiet, with only the sounds of nature

Horses are a lot like kids in a way, they react to the love they are shown. My father showed me this for we raised livestock when I was young.

Greetings from south central BC. We had horses for 15 years here. The fly masks are a good idea. Keeps the suns rays away as well as the bugs. We have ear flies here so they'd hang out in a 2 sided shelter with a roof - the flies didn't go under a roof somehow. The shelter kept them out of the wind and rain too if they wanted to. Lots of good reading out there on horses - Joe Back's "Horse Hitches and Rocky Trails" is a must if you want to learn to pack them. Good luck and all the best.
