9:30 - To answer they're date palms, yes they have roots that explode above the surface for nutrient transfer, but the bands on the trees are either metal or perspex, loosely fitted, to discourage the possums (brush-tails) from climbing. The possums are native wildlife, but make a mess, the trees are not.
Yes, the roots at the base of the palm trees in the Victoria Gardens just look like that. The metal casings around the trunks of the trees are there to prevent the possums climbing up. There's lots of possums in the many parks around the Melbourne CBD. They're friendly; you can feed and pat them.
… I’ve been bitten by one too…
That tree in the Victoria Gardens is just how they look and the metal band around them is to stop possums and/or people climbing them.
Missed the state library, and shrine of remembrance, MCG and Moving Image film exhibit in the Federation square.
Mabu Mabu is a first-nations run restaurant. It's one of the only restaurants in Melbourne that's really showcasing indigenous ingredients and cooking techniques in a contemporary way. Most Australians haven't even tried a lot of the ingredients that they use. It's brilliant. As a Texan, you'll have to buy a jar of their desert herbs seasoning - it works great as a dry rub on beef for BBQ. If you do get to Melbourne, HMU and I'll take you on a food-street art-cultural tour of the CBD and inner-city neighbourhoods! Show you some local gems and the 'real' Melbourne.
We had them cater lunch at work today, it was great!
The posts in the water are the remains of an old wharf the metal caps do two things they stop birds (mostly seagulls) from sitting on them an crapping all over them and they stop rain water from settling on the end of posts and rotting them out from the inside.
You should definitely check out One Pack Wanders and Renata Perriera as they are currently travelling Australia and both have produced some fantastic videos about my home town (and other parts of my beautiful country). Melbourne has consistently been in the top 10 (sometimes top 3) of the worlds most liveable cities.
Melbourne is also concidered by many to be the world's music capital and has10x the amount of venues compaired to Sydney.
The Yarra River walk to Deep Rock at Yarra Bend is gives you a taste of the Australian bush too. You can see a big colony of 1,000's of Flying Fox (bats) roosting in the trees below you at the Boathouse footbridge.
All cities are unique in Australia and you can't miss with any one of them. Wherever you go you won't be disappointed.
Phezz, Melbourne is an absolute must. I've lived in nearly every major city in Australia (currently in Brisbane) and Melbourne hands down is my favourite city. Incredible food, architecture, arts & music scene, sport, gardens, bars, people and COFFEE!!!!! You'll regret it if you don't visit. :-)
Sky Deck is only place I’ve never been to, never will, too high lol. I worked in the city of Melbourne, years ago. Walked through Block Arcade to get to work, always thought it was beautiful. Walked through and sat in the gardens, stunning. My husband worked in Melbourne Town Hall, he was a civil engineer for City of Melbourne. Some things they changed I didn’t agree with, some I did . They threw out quite a bit of stuff from his office. He bought some home for me, books, old black and white copies of photos. Copies of original drawings of toilets, old carts and so much more from way back. An old marker, peg, I use as a door stop lol. Yeah, I love Melbourne, it’s beautiful old architecture combined with the new architecture and gardens so close to the city. Haven’t been into the city for about 4 years, must go in again.
A lot if what he showed is close together and free. The gardens of Melbourne are beautiful and I was surprised he did not show The Shrine of Remembrance located in the gardens. Probably a further walk.
Phezz, if you broke out Google Maps and plotted where his first six places are, it's literally three corners of the one intersection (the fourth is an iconic pub), a lane way in the next block, a building a block further, then an arcade around the corner. The Gardens are the other side of the river backtracking from the Federation Square.
Really, with the exception of the Gardens, then Southbank to Docklands its 100m radius from the Flinders Street and Swanson Street intersection.
ahh, part of my commuting path in the starting thumbnail
MATE.
It should be a no brainer. A worldwide group voted Melbourne as the "WORLD'S MOST LIVEABLE CITY," seven years in a row.
As usual video presenters leave so much out. In the city itself is the famous, "Queen Victoria Market." Less than 1K away is the home of AFL, the stunning Melbourne Cricket Ground, MCG. Capacity, 100,050.
A little more than 30k's from the city is the , "Dandenong Ranges," which some tourists call the enchanted Forest. Quaint little towns dotted among fabulous rainforests with adorable little restaurants housed in amongst the trees. Lyrebirds and other fauna roam the area.
Just over an hours drive is the world-famous, "Great Ocean Road." The road follows the cliff face, hundreds of feet above the ocean below. It also features "Bells Beach," Home of the Rip Curl world surfing championships.
Phillip Island for penguin watchers. Wilsons promontory for fabulous beaches, stunning scenery, with abundant wildlife such as kangaroos, Wallabies, wombats, emus, and more.
What Melbourne and Victoria don't offer, you don't need. Cheers. 🇦🇺🦘🐨
Melbourne was voted the most Liveable city in the world 7 years in a row.1 to 1 and a half hrs out of Melbourne there is fantastic day trips .

Brisbane. Weather is closer to Texas
at 12:54 , the lake in middle of shot is Albert Park Lake, the home of the Australian Formula 1 race.
Melbourne
Phez we have different coloured architecture it's stunning! We have incorporated an outer west town called Melton raising Melbourne to the most populated city in Australia over Sydney! Depends which servey you believe! I love my home town of Melbourne and I'm a proud Western Suburbs resident!
- Flinders Street Station was not built in 1856. The station was established in 1856 but the famous building was built in the early 20th century.
- The bands of metal around the trees are there to stop native possums from climbing the trees and damaging them (Non indigenous trees are softer then native animals are used to so their claws rip them to shreds
- The NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) is an art museum rather then a history museum. Melbourne is a little spare in good historical museums but we do have the Immigration Museum in the city as well as Soveriegn Hill, a kind of 1850's theme park that teaches about the Gold Rush in Ballarat (About 1 hour outside of Melbourne) Scienceworks is a great museum too as is the State Library.
- Docklands? Eww? People have been trying to push the docklands as a place to go but nobody wants to be there including the people who live there.
I get the feeling that this guy is missing a lot. Most of the places are shopping places and not even decent ones but high class boutiques nobody ever shops at.
Melbourne is a lovely city but it's huge, you can't see it all on foot but although I don't have a driver's license I can get around by train or bus or our iconic trams.
Melbourne 🇦🇺
Yes...plenty to do, see, eat and its my city. Best place in OZ.😊
Melbourne is my city. I live in Port Melbourne, it has heaps of good things, great cafes, coffee.sport music. Theatre. Ok beaches. Good shopping. It’s a nice place. We have some great old buildings. I go the dentist in the MancHester unity Building a great art deco building. Pick. Your visit time on the sport you want to see.
One of the teams that play at Marvel Stadium is the favourite Aussie Rules team of Chris Hemsworth. Easy to get Marvel on board when you have Thor on your side :P
Definitely go to Melbourne!
Yep purple building some blue or green even an invisible one and a leaning one looks like an earth quake got it but no just another different design....the designers also designed some of the newer tall buildings in New York ...we like our citys clean if we do see rubbish we look at each other like wtf who left this here..if it's really busy some bins might be over flowing with rubbish around them from to many Australian and international tourists..
All of his video is within a ten minute walk of Flinders Street station. Marvel Stadium is just a sports stadium with a roof. It's just sponsored by Marvel , banks and a phone company previously sponsored it.
G'day Mate! Where you go should be where ever the thing YOU want to do and see are eg:- if you were into the arts and fine dining then Melbourne would be a must but other places have their own awesome stuff to offer...If your kids will be with you then consider what they would like to see and do...I have my favourite parts of Australia but they might not be of interest to you guys so please do a bit of research on what's on offer that fits with your likes and loves...Cheers!
Hey Phezz just a quick video suggestion..Top PSA for Australia/New Zealand....cheers
2:00 Melbourne actually has two transport hubs. Flinders Street Station and Southern Cross Station (formerly Spencer Street Station).
10:00 National Gallery of Victoria is actually a state gallery
Im from Newcastle NSW so naturally I'd advise you to spend your visit here we are Australia's 5th largest city but the area also incorporates the districts of Lake Macquarie! , The Hunter Valley ,and Port Stephens, in this area we boast pristine beaches, award winning world-class vineyards ,subtropical national parks ,The Wattegan Mountains and Lake Macquarie the largest salt coastal lake in the southern hemisphere. Newcastle originally a convict settlement used the prisoners to produce coal and quicklime now exports millions of tons of coal from its busy port . I could go on and if asked will happily do so , but ask any Australian where to visit and they will recommend there own area it's only natural , but you have to be practical, you will probably be like most Americans and have only a short vacation time and considering that it takes a day to get here and a day to get home ,then you won't have time to travel round the country . So if you want history ,icon tourist attractions world recognised buildings and proximity to zoos , wildlife parks and the famous Blue Mountains then Sydney is the place for you . If your looking for restaurants ,bars, clubs ,theatres sporting events and world famous venues then Melbourne is the place . Brisbane is the gateway to the Northern holiday regions the Gold Coast The Sunshine Coast the Great Barrier reef and its holiday resort islands the undisputed whitest sand beach also the most beautiful in the world, also Queensland has the world's oldest tropical rainforest . Adelaide is the city of churches and festivals and is close to some of the best vineyards in the world and is the gateway to the true outback with stunning back country scenery as well as pristine beaches and beautiful parks and gardens. Perth is a city everyone should visit givebn the chance its Australia's most isolated city closer to south-east Asia than Sydney but its a vibrant young city clean safe beautifully designed and landscaped with an abundance of parks and green spaces , a Perth trip if planned well and lead you to places such as Fremantle, Margaret River, Kalgoorlie (the world's largest open cut gold mine) and the Kimberley region, This comment is turning into a novel so I won't wax on about Darwin, Hobart, Alice Springs ,Cairns, Geelong ,Wollongong ,Canberra etc all have definite must see places and there's even more to see and do much to much for a single short visit . So take your pick visit all the tourist information sites on the Web and good luck pinning down an itinerary .
@@tomwareham7944 Lake Macquarie confusingly owns the south riding of the Newcastle metropolitan area
Hey Phezz. My ex'z sister rented in Southbank. Looking at the price now. The apartments rank from around $850+ per week. Remember, that's AU price's. So at the moment that's around $1247 US 😂
Plus, I'll be at Marvel Stadium in Feb for the Pink tour 👍 I'm in Melbourne, obviously 😂😂
You got it back to front. The Aus dollar is only worth sixty seven US cents. That's about five hundred and sixty US dollars not $1247
By all means spend a day or 2 in Melbourne but Sydney is better and Brisbane is warmer lol plus the blue mountains are just 2 hours train ride from central station in Sydney.
Of course you should come to Melbourne! Is that even a question?
Compare Yarra River to Sydney Harbour and the Blue mountains or the Daintree in Queensland nah you may as well go to Mexico oops it is Mexico
Should I go to Melbourne - No - Lo lol
Error overseas tourists make is viewing Sydney/ Melbourne and believing that they have visited or seen al Australia That may be belief of those places but they do not represent the nation so comparisons are not accurate not even scratching the surface Visiting Cairns is not only place to view Barrier Reef and annual Humpback Whale winter migration as anywhere along Queensland coast these are available. Uluru is beautiful area but not all of Outback Nullarbor Plain longest stretch of road and rail globally Cities are just cities
As a Sydneysider who loves her city, yes, you should definitely go to Melbourne. It is a beautiful city with so much to see and do.
Gofundme will get you to Gold Coast Australia 🇦🇺? How much vacation days can you get off? Phezz?
I plan on taking 2 weeks off. Unfortunately they will be unpaid but I feel like the content might pay me enough.
think he missed a lot of stuff in Melbourne
I thought you fell asleep due to your diabetes?
Why would I have diabetes?
