- Large Black-maned Lion marking territory close to Afsaal Picnic Site on the H3 towards Malelane
To be so close up to these big cats is truly a humbling experience as humans we are extremely vulnerable "man to beast" and when you do make eye contact with these magnificent animals it feels like they look right through your soul.
This male was marking territory and stopped every now and again to mark a bush or to smell on the road. This is one cat you do not want to be in the way of at all.

Carol V Black maned Lion is a Prime Lion. You can tell if a lion who has it’s black mane and if it’s old or in its prime. This looks like a healthy prime lion FULL of testosterone

Love all big cats in particular the male lion. I understand tourism brings in money. But it’s sad to see so many vehicles in the park.
Sure but without tourism, the conservation of these Park and animals will not be possible and we would lose them all to poaching and land grabbing for agriculture etc. So we are in a very difficult situation as we have to look after them and protect their land and of course their existence. Also, lions have a lot of space to move in Kruger National Park at the moment officially 2,1 mil hectares and then another 1mil hector of the property opened to the Kruger Park. So if the lions want to walk on the road that is their choice hehehe. Thank you for your comment.

Yes, around that age.
Based on nose pigment, I'd guess 8-9. He's still in his prime, but closer to the end than the beginning. It's hard to tell sometimes, though. Nguvu Othawa looks like he's 7 or 8 in some pictures, but he was just born in 2015.

Nguvu means "woman's skirt" in the local language. Even Ranger Rob said it. Just a heads up and no disrespect intended.
