Whiny people who can't appreciate everything Dave has done for the bushcraft community, beans weren't from scratch! Dave hold my mead I got this! Love all your videos Dave keep up the great work!
Tammy was done cooking a pound of bacon for her beans when I asked if I could help by pouring off the ton of grease in that heavy iron frypan. "Pour it off? No way-- pour it all into those beans," yelled Tammy. Everybody thought they were great beans, and there were no heart attacks.
I doubt the individuals complainimg about the canned beans have even ever camped outside much less cooked baked beans from scratched in the bush. Good job Dave, those look delish.
Need some good corn bread to go with those beans, nothing better on a cold rainy or snowy day than a bowl of good beans, slab of good corn bread with butter and honey, and a hot cup of coffee,,,,,YUM YUM lol.
Beans are looking delicious Dave Canterbury, old school, like like this, wished there was more video on the Mead making, but over all well done. Would like to see u make shotgun shells recipe Dave Canterbury 👍
My brother-in-law has made his own wine (mead, Sake, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Shiraz, etc... )for the last few decades. He purchases his supplies from Label Peelers in Ravenna, Ohio. If you're serious about making your own wine, you might want to check out their inventory.
well...that's a fine looking recipe....but....thinking maybe ..the true wagon traveling pioneer family.. wouldn't have all those ingredients....but heck ...I do ....thks David
My grandmother would make them , i remember that dark molasses and brown sugar with big hunks of ham. So delicious. A full meal with a couple fresh buttered buns .
Brought back memories of Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill in the old TRINITY movies...always scarfing down obscene amounts of BEANS!! Thanks Dave, keep on rocking these out bro...👏
Looks good Dave. How about a small hint of Green Bell Pepper and some chopped Jalapenos? With or without, I could take them and put them away fast. Mmmmmmmm! P.S. I saw the version using Bush's beans as a starter and I'd gladly scarf all those too!😁
wow that looked amazing Dave. I know you say how much of what ingredients you put in. Would you be able to put the amounts of everything in the description, for future recipes? Enjoying the videos. Thanks.
Basecamp Cat likes beans & mead! 😻 I love baked beans. Grandpa would make them with ham saved from Sunday dinner. He would add chopped jalapeños, but then again he added jalapeños to just about everything. 😂
You outa do a show on pie irons and Shawn Kelly's. Palo bead I travel and camp on my quad due to past injuries I camp cook on pie irons almost exclusively
For those that are a bit nervous, Bay leaves may be eaten without toxic effect. However, they remain unpleasantly stiff even after thorough cooking, and if swallowed whole or in large pieces they may pose a risk of harming the digestive tract or causing choking. Thus, most recipes that use bay leaves will recommend their removal after the cooking process has finished.
Regarding the comments about using canned baked beans in this series. I would like to use a phrase that you used years ago on one of your videos when slicing through summer sausage, "let the haters hate". Please keep up the fantastic content!
Definitely gonna try that recipe. You picked the perfect day, Chuck wagon beans on rainy day. No relation, but just picked up a Genuine Norlund tomahawk and hung it with a 25" Ames handle.
Bay leaves can be left whole for the same result and easier to remove, they don't soften and can taste very bitter (tannins). Thanks Dave! I will try the apple cider vinegar next time, looks amazing 😋
I missed it if you mentioned what variety of beans you used. They look like Navy beans. I have been using a variety called Cranberry beans. Also called October beans. Look like Pinto beans but have purple streaks. That disappear when cooking. Have a more creamy texture and the skins don't fall off. Cook like any other bean variety.
How does that siphon work? You would think that the whole tube would have to be lower than the container you are draining from. What makes the liquid go up in the tube?
Can you stop with the cans already?!?! Lmao I'm just joking. Solid video brother. I guess next time you'll have to do a video on how to can tomato sauce 😂😂
I saw the title and thumbnail and wondeted how you cook baked beans in cast Iron without stripping the seasoning. The only baked beans i've eaten are in a tomato sause that is acidic. I like the look of this recipe, more of a bbq sauce.
Right, so I'm from the UK. I think our experience of baked beans is from a tin covered in tomato sauce. I've watched several videos about making traditional US baked beans. Are they supposed to be very sweet with a slight savoury taste from the bacon or a balance of the two? It just seems to me that the amount of sugar that goes into this dish makes it more of a desert than anything else. This is a genuine question. I would love to try traditional beans, I'm just curious about the taste. Great video as always.
beans beans good for your heart the more you eat the more you fart the more you fart the more you eat them old beans are good for your heart. yeah! baked beans. keep ye powder dry
I'd make them with the bacon I just finished - Honey Bourbon Maple Syrup cherry wood smoked. Never have I ever eaten better tasting bacon. You will never see this stuff in any store, either. What happened to Matt Mercer? Haven't seen him post a SRO cooking video for a while.
I'm still loving these cooking videos.
Thank you 👍.
Beans are good for food when one is hiking. They dont weigh much. I allways bring them with me when I am outdoors.
Is everyone happy now that Dave has proven he can make baked beans now?
Whiny people who can't appreciate everything Dave has done for the bushcraft community, beans weren't from scratch! Dave hold my mead I got this! Love all your videos Dave keep up the great work!
My old appalachian mentors back in the day in the 70's added hare and squirrel meat and maple syrup to their beans.

I made the last beans you showed. Don’t let them push you around! Those last beans are F***ing addicting!!
I was just thinking about the mead project, before I clicked on the tab for the beans and bam.... and update nice touch, and thanks.
I doubt the individuals complainimg about the canned beans have even ever camped outside much less cooked baked beans from scratched in the bush. Good job Dave, those look delish.
The longer you can let it age the better it is
Thanks Dave

I bet those would go good with some cornbread & good portion of butter.
A good helping of baked beans like that I could handle every day.
Great video
Loving the cooking series, but I would like to see some more trail cooking meals that I could make while backpacking
well...that's a fine looking recipe....but....thinking maybe ..the true wagon traveling pioneer family.. wouldn't have all those ingredients....but heck ...I do ....thks David

That cat is going to HATE IT when Dave finishes up his cooking series.
That looks awesome but it’s so complicated.
I started with one of those also. Then did a 3 gallon carboy of it. :D
It looked so good. I can't help but think that Zahn has some potent stools.

Watching these videos on an empty stomach has me raiding the fridge!
Basecamp Cat likes beans & mead! 😻 I love baked beans. Grandpa would make them with ham saved from Sunday dinner. He would add chopped jalapeños, but then again he added jalapeños to just about everything. 😂
Thanks Dave. I've always wondered how to make baked beans not from a can. I've only known them from tins.
Hi Dave... when is a cookbook coming out? Your recipes are great!
You outa do a show on pie irons and Shawn Kelly's. Palo bead I travel and camp on my quad due to past injuries I camp cook on pie irons almost exclusively
They look beautiful. I never thought about making homemade baked beans. Our have always come out of a can.
Yours looks much better.👍🏼

Beans look amazing Dave! Nothing like cooking in cast iron i won't cook in anything else.
Definitely gonna try that recipe. You picked the perfect day, Chuck wagon beans on rainy day. No relation, but just picked up a Genuine Norlund tomahawk and hung it with a 25" Ames handle.
Looks good 😊 👍
Can I have some
Wow that looks great! Thank you so much for taking us through the process.
I was expecting the classic
crusty top beans, but that
still looks really good
Just need a hunk of cornbread and
a bowl of greens to go with it now
Bay leaves can be left whole for the same result and easier to remove, they don't soften and can taste very bitter (tannins).
Thanks Dave! I will try the apple cider vinegar next time, looks amazing 😋
Bay leaves can also be dangerous. Really shouldn’t eat them because those hard edges can do damage to your digestive tract.
I CAN SMELL IT COOKING!!!
Dave you're making me hungry lately
looks really good would definitely like to try that
i miss homemade baked beans every sunday when i was a kid
I missed it if you mentioned what variety of beans you used. They look like Navy beans.

My cat mustard use to love baked beans too she sadly passed couple weeks ago
Great as usual Dave ! Much love from southwest Virginia
What? No cornbread? Lol
Holy crap ! 😂 well Dave , that looked pretty darn good, thanks.
Almost positive this is the same stuff they ate on Oregon Trail back in middle school
#Floppy
Dave,you still rocking the morakniv?
Just missing some cornbread or biscuits
Dave rules
Looks just right!
How does that siphon work? You would think that the whole tube would have to be lower than the container you are draining from. What makes the liquid go up in the tube?
Any thoughts of using a pressure cooker in the bush?
Can you stop with the cans already?!?! Lmao I'm just joking. Solid video brother. I guess next time you'll have to do a video on how to can tomato sauce 😂😂
👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
could i just buy the beans
Hey Dave where did you start the mead at? which video? And what service were you in?
I don't see the issue. I'm a big foodie but there are 2 things I'll always prefer from a can. Baked beans and tuna. Idgaf
Wow we have bees and I'm actually drinking Meade ATM. GREAT VIDEO
Now we’re talking
Those sausages and bacon would be a lot easier and less messy to cut if they were a little more frozen. Hope all is well mate. Dope content.
Love this!
I saw the title and thumbnail and wondeted how you cook baked beans in cast Iron without stripping the seasoning.
The only baked beans i've eaten are in a tomato sause that is acidic.
I like the look of this recipe, more of a bbq sauce.
They do look delicious brother! One question, do you fish the bay leaves out? And if you don’t, are they bitter?
I just leave em
