  • This old Tru-Temper No. 20PP rock hammer once belonged to the channel's first Super Fan. His grandson handed it to me with the story that his grandfather had survived the Scotia Mine Disaster, which was one of the deadliest mine disasters in the nations history. This old rock hammer would have probably been a part of his daily tools, so it very well could have survived the disaster with him. No matter the history of the hammer, it was found in his building with his initials carved in it, and his grandson wanted to know if I could get it back in shape so he could display in his home. And always being a sucker for old tools with great stories, and the fact that his grandfather was a superfan and got tremendous joy out of watching my videos, how could I resist. This isn't a lengthy restoration, as the hammer was in really good shape. But the tips I share can help you at home if you come across an old family item you want to place in your own home for display. Don't be afraid to try something like this on your own, or to give me a shout if you need any advice. But for this video, sit back and relax, listen to a good story, see a restoration, and find out a little about the channels first superfan. Thank you all for stopping by, and I truly hope you enjoy!

Thanks man! There’s just something great about bringing this old stuff back to life, isn’t there? Btw, I’m headed over to your channel now to start binge watching. Meant to do that for a while now. Thanks for stopping by

Thanks bud. I kinda liked the intro format too, so I might stick with that. And that’s exactly what I’m hoping to do with the restorations trying to tie them and history together. Just experimenting like we all do

It’s a dirty job usually, but for a lot of these things it’s very fun finding out how they tick, and very rewarding when they get done to see the before and after

Thanks. Sometimes these restorations are my “zen” time, so I don’t mind……unless it’s a forge blower 😂😂😂

Someone else who wears nitrile gloves while applying linseed oil to handles. Nice. So many use a clean paper towel or cloth, which soaks up a bunch of oil that never makes it to the handle.

I usually try to either use gloves or put it on with my bare hands. Gets a little messy at times, which usually why I use the gloves. But I agree, using a rag or paper towel soaks up so much, then you have to put it up and let dry so it doesn’t become a spontaneous combustion nightmare!

Thanks. If anyone wanted to see Corey, he was in my overnight kayak trip video. He’s a fellow paramedic, and a man of many talents just like his grandpa was. It was definitely an honor to restore it

He’s an awesome musician, cook, and paramedic. Jason and I have wanted him to do a UA-cam channel with his cooking stuff. He even has his own pull behind bbq smoker. Love being his cooking guinea pig at work 😂
