- Organic Pool Off-Grid. DIY step by step. Sheep Farmer's Dream Dip.
On the dry chalk downs of South Wiltshire, a sheep farmer and her family have created an oasis which has transformed their lives. This stunning Organic Pool is even more impressive for being totally off-grid.
The music: Show Of Hands, The Falmouth Packet / Haul Away Joe.
This DIY pool was made with my (David Pagan Butler) Organic Pools system. For a free DIY PDF see: organicpools.co.uk
I'm from Kerala in India, which had such an abundance of natural pools that communal bathing pools were the cultural norm just a few decades ago. Most of those were lost due to urbanization or just got completely neglected, and for the past 7-8 years, the government along with a lot of community volunteers had been on a mission to salvage and revive the remaining one's mainly to improve groundwater recharging and to facilitate more swimming training to kids.
However, since all of them are groundwater fed, they have only just cleaned up all the settled mud and completely wiped out every single flora in it, as part of revival. It was probably because drowning from getting entangled in aquatic plants, still happens here. But, I still do wish they had incorporated the shallow part for Wetland plants. I'm not really sure how long they can keep these ponds well, without the Wetland flora
Helps clean the water. Seems necessary.
a very welcoming sight and i'm sure your dad will be grateful.
That was just a magnificent presentation. That woman's smile just glows and fills the entire screen. With an extra gleam when she's talking about her children.
Everybody needs a Frank or Hilda, Jo, the name doesn't matter. Lovely example of your skill, thanks.
It's always nice to watch a new success story... encourages me to go for a natural swimming pool/pond... Congrats for the video!!!
I was like “who’s frank and why is the pool calling him?”
Then I watched the video lol
Beautiful lady. Reminds me of Natascha McElhone! :)
So great to watch you latest video. Iv'e been subscribed for years and its just a joy every time you post something new. (Slight side note, the volume between the spoken interview and then the loudness of the music was a bit jarring and a tad painful through my earbuds) Cheers and look forward to what comes next.
Absolutely beautiful organic pool and a great choice of music for the video!
brilliant! loved seeing the kids use the full length of one of your natural pools. invigorating.
Yes, they loved it.
What a brilliant tribute.
Brilliant, I will be building one, sooner than later! Thanx for sharing 🙏🏻
Fabulous so inspiring...
Fabulous.. so worthwhile
Cheers Oliver
Wow - what a bootiful swim pond
Awesome pool
They had the vision to make such a stunning example
Frank looks fantastic!
this is excellent
Incredible!
That's a beauty. Well done.
So beautiful!
Stunning 🤩
Beautiful
Very uplifting indeed
Love it, I definitely need one on my property!
Fecking awesome!
Awesome...👍😊
Also, I’d “crown” the middle so things collect around the sides and would go towards the airlifts. With trees nearby those can really put a lot of organic matter in.
I have a swim spa and would love to create an external organic filter… consider how many sales you could get from conversion projects and you may have a Revolution on your hands sir
I SO LOVE IT
Great 👍 video
This is beautiful! I haven't been in a chlorinated pool in years and something like this would keep me out of one forever. However, where I live, (Ohio, USA) that pool would soon be full of frogs and geese -- they just appear on their own and take over. How do you keep these out?
fence, use less plants, keep the planted zone in a different lake and circulate the water using waterfall.
I'm so envious of countries that have water
We are lucky although sometimes we don't appreciate it enough.
Amazing build... A couple of things, I only counted 2 bubble pumps, is that all there are in this pool? Also did they lay the oak sleepers / planks straight on top of the liner? Thank you
Hi there awesome job congrats! I would like to ask some questions if it is ok for you. We are in a project to create an organic pool here in Patagonia, Argentina and we wonder about you using wood in regeneration area as wood and water are not very friendly on the time. Thanks
OMG, super!!! how big and deep is it?
2m deep and 15m swim zone approximately.
Hola.david... como consigues situar los aireadores fuera de la zona de nado???. Gracias saludos desde Argentina!!!!
Lovely pool. Must be near me if its in Wiltshire. I have few questions.
They don't seem to have used sacks filled with concrete above the concrete wall. How did they get the pipes through to the swim zone? Were there just holes left in the wooden wall?
From above it looks like they have a wooden platform in part of the swim zone. Is this to make a shallow area where the kids can stand up without being out of their depth?
What are the big black tanks for?
You can see the pipes rising directly upwards from the drainage pipes at around 05:14
Can you please do a budget video on say a small medium large pool. We would like to build one in the next 12 months
Hey David, we're digging for an irrigation pond on our farmstead to water our market garden of 2000m2. In your opinion, would it be possible to implement a natural swimming pool like this and still use the pond for irrigation purposes?
I am confused and don’t catch how the airlift system can work properly if it is completely implemented inside the regeneration area. To me, the length of the vertical pipe that draws the water from underneath the gravel cannot be sufficient to generate the water flow necessary for a good filtration. David himself explained in one of his videos that he recommended pipe heights equal to the depth of the pool. Can someone clarify this point ?
I was thinking the same thing, I don't see any vertical pipes down into the swim area, and for that matter I don't see any output opening in the regeneration area either. All I can make out, at about the 5:10-5:15 part of the video, is what looks like several closed loops each assigned to one vertical pipe with an airstone in each. Any clarification on this would be much appreciated.
Aside from his olive and some bubble line, it doesn’t look complete… is there an alternative design here?
"Organic pool"
Gigantic plastic liner would like a word.
Is this actually cheaper than a regular pool? It looks more expensive to me.
The lift pumps appear to be in the plant zone. Is that a option?
I'm curious how warm these pools get in the UK. Children can withstand a lot lower water temperature than adults!
you could always add solar heater panels or a wheelbarrow fire pit to the pond to heat
@@randicampbell1530 It would be rather counterproductive to pollute the air with smoke burning a fire in an area where people exercise.
Wouldn't solar water heater panels have to be enormous to heat a pond? They'd probably have to be the size of the pond! Too bad there's no practical way of covering the pond at night to keep in the warmth til sunrise the next day. But that might mess with things.
There is a solution though: Move to a warm climate.
How much did it cost aprox?
A lot! But worth 100x it's cost.
@@bastogne315 would you say more than an average conventional pool ?
Not sure - I guess £15k DIY
@@organicpools-davidpaganbutler Hi David, Great to meet you if only virtually… really love the pools you have built, really inspiring going to build one here in Southwest France at some point.
Hello do think it is possible to build a swim pond of 3m x 9m?
Dimensions?
Build time?
Thx.
15x5x2m approx and few months.
what about maintenance
Organic huh, looks like your standard petroleum liner fools
