Thanks for the narrative on the legendary talent behind each of their classic polkas! We left Morton, Texas in 1968 and although I wasn't born in Texas, I never abandoned the music, culture and food.
Proud to see this homage and learn about our music roots. I'm always happy to hear my dad Joe Mejia recount his time with Tony De La Rosa from 1963 to 1970 as the bass player for the group. Later Freddie Martinez would invite Joe Mejia to join his Orchestra and my dad would lend his songwriting and composer talents and after writing Te Triago Estas Flores and many other hits the rest was history. I also became a drummer and bass player and have my special memories of sitting in on the drums With Gilberto Perez y Ruben Vela.
It is a great honor in seeing 2 legends who has brought so much conjunto music to our beautiful city San Antonio Texas they are the 2nd generation of the great santiago jimenez sr
Listening in 2018 and enjoying some of my cultures musical history. This music... no matter how old I get... no matter how much times may change... this music will always bring me back to times of a simpler life...times which I wish I could relive. Thanks for recognizing our late conjutos artist who most people forget where our tejano music came from' The great legend like Don Valerio Longoria who I will always remember him for teaching me how to play the accordion as a child. All artist mention on this song were the founding fathers of Tejano music. So please don't forget our Tejanos roots of our heritage, tradition, & culture. Can't be embarrass of your blood of latinos. Atta Boy Mr Villareal. You did a fantastic job on this video. This was Conjunto history lesson of the music made in Tejas. Remember Conjunto music came before Norteño music. The conjunto and norteño music came from the German, Polish and Czeh immigrants who settled in Texas including the miners along the border. The accordion bass was switched to bajo sexto and later came the drums/bateria. The polkas, schottis/shotix, waltz/Valz are from these European countries. Tejanos expanded the accordion music as Mr. Villareal indicated. Thank you San Benito for post our American Tejano Heritage!

Narciso Martínez nació en Reynosa Tamaulipas, Y Santiago Jiménez Senior en San Luis Potosí México, es el dato que yo sé por documentales que dicen eso,si estoy equivocado, una disculpa sinceramente, porque en wikipedia encontré la biografía de Narsiso Martínez, y ahí dice que el pionero de la música de conjunto tanto tejano como norteño nació en Reynosa Tamaulipas, en 1911 y falleció en San Benito Texas en 1992,y lo referente a Don Santiago Jiménez padre,creo que me confundí, por el vídeo de Los Texas Tornados, con el tema soy de San Luis, en el programa de "On Nashville Show"

Respect to the original raza that started this trend back in the 1920's/1930's all over South Texas. It's continued and evolved and we're all better for it.

Música de Conjunto nunca morirá, y aunque existen subgéneros derivados de ellos,(Tejano y Norteño) jamás los superarán ni remplazarán.
