Sonoran Desert Wildlife: Trail Camera Videos in Arizona

- This is my first attempt at getting trail camera videos in the lower desert areas near my house in a while. I expected to get at least one or two mule deer, but it was all Coues deer here. I also thought the rut might bring more bucks through the area, but I'm guessing the does I got on camera weren't in heat, so all I got were videos of young bucks. I'm happy overall with this video haul and very pleased with the new trail camera model I used for this video (Recon Elite HP4). I am checking a boatload of cameras in the mountains soon, so check back in the next week or two. Thanks for watching.

So Michael have you captured a Mexican Gray Wolf that you know of on film? I looked up that it's apparently endangered in AZ. That would be really cool. And I was pleasantly surprised the Gila Monster was not endangered, I guess it's just very rare to come across them in the wild. Reptiles are a blast to see out there as well. I liked your previous snake footage.
No I haven’t. They’re well North and East of me. I have seen a Gila Monster in the wild once.
I’ve never seen those piggy looking things around Vegas before. Cute in their own way. You can keep the skunks 🦨 lol

I grew-up in Arizona and love these videos you do. I think I’ll just look at it for a few minutes and then 3 videos later I’ll realize how calming and interesting they are. The photo capture of the javalinas is as close as I’d ever want to be to a javalina!! Once had a friend lived on southwest side of Tucson who had a lot of javalina troubles.
Incredible how many animals depend on these isolated pockets of water.

Wow Michael, that was the quickest 18 minutes ever! It was also the best 18 minutes to watch just before bed in UK. Lovely to hear just the natural sounds (tho I love your intro guitar music too). The deer are so nervous yet so elegant. The flamboyant skunk with his feather boa tail is magnificent. Pigs look really healthy and one was very happy to give you a full face portrait for his audition! I've missed out the birds and the fox or coyote... It was all beautiful. Thank-you so much. I hope you are pleased with it.
I am pleased. I do my best to capture as many animals as possible, but try not to “grasp” too hard for the perfect video. That would rob me of the experience of being out there in nature. I do my best, then just take whatever is offered. Thank you for the nice comment. Howdy from Arizona 👋

The pig-like animals are Javelina. They aren't pigs though, they are peccaries.

Apparently the fawn doesn't think much of the water either; "Aw mom, do I have to? It gets stuck in my teeth!"
Javelina drinking clean water from a footprint left by a previous drinker.
It RAINED? Hallelujah! And then froze? Anyway, a lot of algae got left high and sort of dry.
That little spike buck doesn't know what to make of it. Probably his first go with ice.

Another amazing video. Never had any idea there was so many different species in the desert. Camped in Quartzsite area and never saw anything.
They are tough to find with the naked eye. Experts at not being seen.

I wouldn’t recommend feeding them by hand. They rip people open every year here in Tucson.

Funny to see those doves sitting on it when the pond froze over. I remember those freeze warnings! Those clips are really sharp on the new trail camera, especially the night ones. Great work as always!
Thank you. Of all the clips, I think I liked the doves on ice the most. Simply because it’s not something I get to see being in Arizona very often.

I watched a couple others where the temperature time of day and date were available at the bottom of the screen and being given that kind of information was so informative. So far my favorite is the little skunk who seems to make frequent appearances in other videos too. A real stinker of a star! This was amazing to watch from the skidishness of the deer to the adorable little skunk stomps.
Also loved the javalinas. I didn't know they could jump though. That shocked me!

The ice skating doves 😂 Also love one of the early skunk bits with just the eyes of the (probably) deer looming off to the left like some specter.

Looked like cactus barbs sticking out of the first deers hide. The colors in the background were beautiful and delicate looking.

Natives living here in AZ since 1955, including myself. Also living in Wikieup circa 1958. Went to school with the son of the head of game and fish in Kingman. Burro Creek was where they were originally planted.

This is very entertaining! Your first deer 2:42 we could call Thorny. He seems to have a lot of spikes sticking out of him (or into him). I assume those horns (not yet antlers) mark him as a 1-year-old male. Another possible name is Skittish, but that's every deer. He seems to be on his own. I think that's typical of male deer, once they leave their mom. There's a lot I'd like to say, but I'm struggling with a skittish laptop and a flaky mouse. Do you think you could list the animals in the video description, for the uninitiated or forgetful? No timestamps needed, unless you want, just an inventory? :-) Thanks for the video!

Yes, a one year old male. Deer have antlers, not horns. Horns (like a Big Horn Sheep) are hollow, while antlers, on deer and elk and moose, are solid.

The audio is so clean. Have you cleaned it up or does this camera return this quality audio? You can hear only the animals, its wonderful! Quality of night footage is super sharp also. The animals do notice the low glow but seem to tolerate it.
This is from the camera. It’s pretty good. Sometimes it deteriorates as the camera gets older.

Hi Michael, I’m over in pitcher rocks area and created a water hole for the local animals. All I’ve ever seen were javelines, coyotes, rabbits, snakes. You must be higher up or more north. Beautiful

It was interesting seeing the furry pigs, I didn't realize you had them in Arizona. And I wonder why the deer are so afraid of the water?
They are javelina. A distant distant old world relative of pigs. The deer may have been reacting to my camera. Not sure.

These are actually javelina. They’re native to this area. Plenty of coyotes here though.
Get some wolves and puma. Then it'll be fine.
Actually I bet we do have wild pigs in MD. I'd have to research that..
@@dorothygillespie4466 according to DNR there are no wild pigs in Maryland. There have been instances of domestic pigs getting loose and not being re-captured however they are considered feral not wild.
Surprised the Javelina showed up during the day.
Little history, growing up we never had javelina in Az. The Game and Fish got the bright idea to import about 50 of them from S America. Those 50 have spread to Ca, Nm, and probably in Utah as well by now. Certainly they are a interesting addition to the "wild life"...

I barely ever see any Havelina here in Tucson. They’re mostly in the populated areas, not out in the desert.
There are plenty in the desert. They just aren’t accustomed to people like the ones in the city are.
