    Agree on everything except the big drawer under the sink… we love it! Bonus functionality is to get the auto-open!!!
    Every other kitchen we visit, we tap with our knee out of habit and it’s weird when it doesn’t open.

    • @kitchensbyrannes
      @kitchensbyrannes  5 місяців тому

      Yeah, the kick-opener is pretty cool.
      Not a lot of people are buying it though. Probably because of the cost 🤔

      Do you have it the full height of the cabinet, or just half height? How is it holding up? I feel like having a high drawer front is going to pull too much force on the drawer.

      I understand that perspective, but the truth is we’ve almost never pull on it with the tap to open feature so it’s holding up good as new after five years plus… And it goes up three-quarter height to the counter
      … the entire cabinet follows the same motif of small drawer at the top medium drawer in the middle large drawer at the bottom… On the sink cabinet the top small drawer piece doesn’t move. Hope that makes sense.

    I'm relieved I came across this video after visiting my local IKEA store today. I just finalized my kitchen cabinet and countertop orders. While my design doesn't include the first four items mentioned in the video, it does include the last one. After watching the video, I've decided to modify my design by replacing the wire basket with drawers. This video is very helpful for sure.

      @@kitchensbyrannes I showed this video to our local Ikea store staff. Here is their response in regard to the wire basket. ".. in terms of the wire basket quality, we have not seen it being as flimsy as it is in the video. if the rail is installed properly, the basket will never wobble up and down like that but rather pull in and out very smoothly."

    I'm currently remodeling my kitchen. No way will I have the trash and recycling pull-outs under the sink. I've lived here 25 years with this old kitchen, and I'm sure it's been many hundreds of times that I or someone else has said "Excuse me" to get the person at the sink to move over so that we can access the trash. An absolute pain in the neck. In my new kitchen, the pull-out is going next to the sink, to be easily accessed by someone standing at the sink or anyone else who walks up and needs access, without the person cutting the veggies or washing the dishes having to move over. So, trash and recycling on one side, dishwasher on the other, and cleaning supplies/detergents/etc. underneath. Perfect.

      That's the great thing about Ikea kitchens. They can be fitted to suit everyone's preference.

      I currently have this set up. A nice big kitchen sink with a normal cupboard underneath to house my dishwasher tabs and extra soaps/sponges. To my right is a pull out cabinet with my trash and recycle cans. I can be pulling the tops off strawberries or tomatoes off the vine as I rinse them and toss it all I go. My kids can throw things out while I'm doing dishes. Really, it's fantastic. In the rare instance I have one kid blocking the trash cupboard while another is trying to toss something it's so annoying. I couldn't imagine dealing with that all day, every day!

      @kitchensbyrannes  2 місяці тому

      Exactly, there's no law making you put your trash under the sink, in an upper drawer by the sink is much more practical, even for cleaning. As to the big drawer under the sink why don't put two smaller ones on top of each other. Takes a lot of cleaning utensils, extra recycling bins for plastics or whatever you need.

    For the inside utensil drawer, I used magnets to draw the smaller drawer out

      Thanks for the tip. I thought about doing the same in my apartment as I only have inside drawers. I'm a tenant and I guess the landlord didn't know my preferences 🤣
      My problem is that the handles they put in are not great and require a fair amount of grip strength, so I'm concerned that pulling two drawers at the same time will be even harder.

    I find it amazing for how many people it is about looking good and not about function. When I planned my kitchen, it was all about function. And then at the very end I selected 3 possible "colors" and let my girlfriend decide which color she wanted. Like: Do you want glossy grey or not so glossy grey. Design done. When all the cabinets have the same color and grips that is enough for "good design".

    Do you have any recommendations / options for microwave oven? I want to remodel and my current kitchen has an open shelf for the microwave. I would like to do the same with IKEA cabinets but they do not have a similar cabinet. I am not a fan of microwave in a base cabinet and don’t have a lot of room to have the tall cabinet built in microwave. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Than you.

    • @kitchensbyrannes
      @kitchensbyrannes  3 місяці тому

      For clients who wants the microwave inside a wall cabinet I either recommend them to get a small microwave which fit, or I cut a panel to fit and use it as a deeper shelf.

      @@kitchensbyrannes thank you for taking time to reply. I think I will take an over the range microwave and install it under a cabinet, no range. I’m going with 40 inch uppers and plan to use a 30 inch upper cabinet at the location where I want the microwave. I will attach it under this 30 inch upper

    Good video as usual. Those Ikea garbage bins you showed are a joke. We would have to empty those 3x a day! Utensil drawers are essential. I'm curious what you think about the newer shallow drawer vs. the old. My 10 year old kitchen had maybe an extra inch more on the low drawer compared to Sektion. It is a little tight now for things like a ladle.

    • @kitchensbyrannes
      @kitchensbyrannes  5 місяців тому

      Thanks, I'm glad you like it....tge video, not the bins. I like those bins, but I live alone, so I don't produce a lot of garbage. It suit my needs.
      I see what you mean with the drawer height and your big ladle, but I don't have a useful suggestion. Smaller ladle maybe 🤔😊

    I do agree that the pullout under the sink could block the way if other people try to put garbage while others is doing dishwashing. I personally am not bothered too much as we are only 2 in the house. But I had to cut the support to use only for the two 10 inches front panel and only make the top one fixed. Ikea gave the brackets when you buy the ventilated heavy duty top bar. My sink is 10 inch deep, so making the top front panel fixed is a good way. Due to plumbing underneath, I had to cut out the back metal to avoid hitting the p-trap. So I have an undermount sink 60/40 from Kraus, to support it besides silicone which will not hold forever, Ikea sell the support bracket for inside cabinet microwave or the like, I use it to put a 3/4 plywood under the sink and level it to fit tight under sink so it will never fall even if you have both two bowls full of water. Anyhow, I love it because of hiding the garbage and recycle bins making it handy. Just finished doing grout for backslash, it will not be long I can show some pics. Still watching your channel. Keep it up for sharing more, you have my kudos for so many kitchens installation, i have done only one and it's plenty enough.😂
