One thing I've tried with some success on several cities was make a highway exit on the submap closest to the edge (since it takes funky mods to build outside of the purchasable map area), place a parking lot/parking garage next to a metro (or train) station, and then run the metro (or train) to the areas they are wanting to go to. It has cut down on passenger cars coming in from outside the city by quite a bit. Anytime you see it starting to affect another area, add another metro/train line to that area connected from the edge station(s). So it doesn't look so out of place, can use some industry or something in the area to look like a small developing area.
FYI: TM:PE has be be completely unsubscribed to then search the workshop for V11 Stable, NOT Traffic Manager, the subscribe. Really great work. Thanks!
When placing lane arrows on two lane junctions, it is generally speaking best to have right and straight on one lane and left on its own lane (for right side driving)
A good way to avoid traffic going into small roads, instead of using the main roads, is to make some small districts and put the "old town" restriction on, that way they will only go in there if they have business to do there. Particularly useful for avoiding industrial traffic in residential areas. Just make sure your main roads are up for the increased traffic.
I'd love to see elevated metros in Teaville, you should consider looking at implementing Metro Overhaul in the city. For the Olympic park-style area the modern-looking concrete tracks and surface-level/elevated tracks would suit the area best.
If cars are driving on the right, you need to separate the left turns, since they are in conflict with oncoming traffic, while right turns and straight traffic go well together. It seems like the automatic separation in TM:PE is doing this wrong, as well as the base game, which always separates right turns instead of left turns.

Connecting highways via side streets is a guaranteed traffic nightmare. Yes, I like to use grids for my cities, but if I break them up, I can have better traffic control. Would you agree with that?
I'm not going to blame Biffa for this, but it always bothers me when, visually, a Cities: Skylines city turns into being a giant jumble of infrastructure instead of a collection of buildings linked together. It's like cities get to a certain size in this game and traffic just multiplies itself out of control and the player can only try their best to do everything they can to contain it, and ends up looking nothing like a real city.
I agree. That's why I reluctantly tend to create a ton of underground connections and highways in the end in order to avoid these ugly asphalt jungles.
@@_araminta_ I always leave lots of empty space between city parts. You need a big map, but it really helps traffic to sort itself out travelling between areas. And it gives extra free space for future stuff.

Another tip when setting up all of the mass transit is that if you have advanced parking AI switched on in the tm:pe options it will show you red/green buildings when you are in the transit view. Red are high demand buildings so you can place your stops/stations near these buildings. There's a toggle button to see outgoing demand or incoming demand so remember to check both so you can maximize your transit usage.
I'm loving this much more than other people's cities fixing. But I honestly would expect an almost perfect traffic from your own city. I wouldn't mind to see more traffic fixing before expanding again to follow the needs bars.
@biffa please take this suggestion and see the difference for yourself. Regarding the metro's line 1 was successful because that is exactly how it is supposed to be built unless you are building a loop in tight business district it won't make much difference. @23:05 you mentioned the way private vehicles are moving across the city that is your cue to build the metro line in your city follow the same route with multiple stops but not a loop keeps it like line 1. For line 2 instead of going all the way out pls add stops in prospect district and then end at current. then just extend line 1 and close line 2.
Bought the game because of these videos. Bought a new computer because of the game. May need a new partner soon because of playing it all the time. Arrggh.
Your link to the park area (when you added a cross over station) when you extended the original line missed the stop by clicking first and last station only thus there’s no link and the metro just goes through without stopping to the main line
Biffa there is a Metro Sation mod you might like called (IIRC) "2 Platforms Parallel (4 tracks)" which is actually fantastic for setting up district "loops" so that passengers can change lines at one station without the metro trains backing into each other.
All TM:PE instructions instruct the monorail too. I noticed your monorail stopped at the lights 14:00 - Also if you do a shift-S for Hugo's it will affect monorail too. I love TM:PE, without it CSL just wouldn't and couldn't be the same. I play left-hand drive (UK), so another thing with TM:PE is be aware of no left turns. It is US equivalent of UK no right turn, so as a lefty I often wonder why traffic is not making simple left turns .. doh! .. be nice if TM:PE had a left/right-hand option setting to accomodate all that. Love the videos, it is YOU who is ultimately responsibe for stealing large chunks of my life! 😑🤣😁
Quick question! If I want to begin watching the building of this city, should I go back to Kerrisdale? The first episode on teaville already starts with a build city, so I'm very confuse @_@
In that square you bought to put that one off ramp, why not build out a proper 4 way junction to let people transfer highways right there instead of making weird bypasses through the middle of your city?
11:00 - Wait, wait, wait!... So that's why you make 2 station connectors between your metro loops instead of one long connector that bridges them all? You're just fundamentally opposed to long metro routes that don't loop?... Honestly, I find that truly bizarre. What an arbitrary fine distinction to draw... Lol
Good job Biffa, you are coming to the traffic light side, good, very good. Also, when are you going to take care of the waste int the ocean, and you have all your demands for residential, commercial, and industry maxed out.
Hey man, why dont you ever use the multiplatform metro stations? They are pretty useful saving a little space and they are also more realistic i feel than normal 1 awning stations
with all those multiple route metro stations is it worth finding some metro stations with four or more platforms on the workshop to try and keep each line separate whilst still maintaining interchange within the one station?
I'm re-watching the entire Teaville series. I noticed that, since around February, Biffa has been laying fewer roundabouts and more timed traffic lights. Roundabouts are even rarer in Teaport. Biffa, can you discuss when you decide to use which solution?
It was a dark and stormy night. Tea in hand I realized something needed to change. The rain battered against the window like the conflicted thoughts inside my head. What would prevail? Roundabouts or timed traffic lights? It was going to be the toughest decision of my life so I put the kettle on for another brew and settled in for some hard thinking. Hours passed. I decided, changed my mind...over and over I went back and forth but just couldn't make a final decision. Ultimately, each had their own place in a city, a place where they could each shine and show off their unique talents So that was it. Roundabouts and timed traffic lights were both here to stay... Or where they...?

Also it never hurts to future proof your road network if you can afford it.
I almost spat my tea when I saw that!
11:20 there's no metro stop
yeah they cant switch becaus ther isent a stop on the other line.
And as proove 18:10 - 18:13 you see the metro pas the station whitout stopping.
I noticed the same thing
All of this ‼️⬆️⬆️
Message from Hugo There and Hugo Through:-
"Many thanks to the new Vietnamise helpers, the Pings, especially Kon Trul Klik Ping."
😂
11:00 please add the stations at Yorkshire Tea Farm ... The trains are just going through :)
yeah and thats probably why there are so few people on a line to Oriental Square
Loads of timed traffic lights, and Biffa forgets what a roundabout is called. Did I wake up in another dimension this morning?
Another tip when setting up all of the mass transit is that if you have advanced parking AI switched on in the tm:pe options it will show you red/green buildings when you are in the transit view. Red are high demand buildings so you can place your stops/stations near these buildings. There's a toggle button to see outgoing demand or incoming demand so remember to check both so you can maximize your transit usage.
Thank you! I needed to know that!
Well poop thanks man, i didnt realize that, it hought they were red from poor access.
Those high contrast color lines for the manual lanes is really nice as well. :)
Really pleasing to the eyes. Thought I was seeing things when I 1st saw it.
Also, really pleasing for us colorblinds! Helps a lot!
I'm loving this much more than other people's cities fixing.
But I honestly would expect an almost perfect traffic from your own city.
I wouldn't mind to see more traffic fixing before expanding again to follow the needs bars.
on 20:50 you make a interchange in one direction, but you should have done it in all the directions
No One:
Litterally no One:
Biffa: we're gonna do a bit of lane mathematics
So why are you here if you didn't wanna watch tho?
@@_Professor_Oak i didn't say that
Albus Dumbledore that’s not what the meme means really. Good to see you survived!
@@_Professor_Oak Hugo there
Only if Hugo shows up!
6:35 - Ooof, one sharp turn fixed, the other one forgotten!
Anvilshock glad u noticed it too omg I was like erm the northern curve was still sharp
Love watching these videos. I don’t have the game, and never played it but I’m literally hooked!!!
😁
Same lmao
Chris, I bought this game just because I love watching these videos 😆 totally worth it
I would love to buy it, not sure my 2015 iMac would support it though.....
Bought the game because of these videos. Bought a new computer because of the game. May need a new partner soon because of playing it all the time.
Arrggh.
"If we pause the game and delete that van"
So that explains how I got to this dimension...
Your link to the park area (when you added a cross over station) when you extended the original line missed the stop by clicking first and last station only thus there’s no link and the metro just goes through without stopping to the main line
theres alotta psots about it , so hopefulyl hell fix it
any1alive I think we all posted about the same time lol
Biffa there is a Metro Sation mod you might like called (IIRC) "2 Platforms Parallel (4 tracks)" which is actually fantastic for setting up district "loops" so that passengers can change lines at one station without the metro trains backing into each other.
When he deletes cars like that I sit here wondering... Who's dad, mom, or child won't be coming home...😐
I have this mental health problem, its called "i-watch-too-much-biffa-ightous" Maybe because Biffa is a Legend ;)
Hi, welcome to the meeting.
My name's Bob and I am a Biffaholic
Quick question! If I want to begin watching the building of this city, should I go back to Kerrisdale? The first episode on teaville already starts with a build city, so I'm very confuse @_@
Start at the other end of the playlist (it's a long story don't ask) ;-)
You should build a full custom interchange in the square that you just bought. It’d be really cool to see how you’d handle the interesting topography
In that square you bought to put that one off ramp, why not build out a proper 4 way junction to let people transfer highways right there instead of making weird bypasses through the middle of your city?
I likely will at some point :-)
11:00 - Wait, wait, wait!... So that's why you make 2 station connectors between your metro loops instead of one long connector that bridges them all? You're just fundamentally opposed to long metro routes that don't loop?... Honestly, I find that truly bizarre. What an arbitrary fine distinction to draw... Lol
22:54 timed traffic lights came and all of a sudden biffa cant remember how are roundabouts called
Good job Biffa, you are coming to the traffic light side, good, very good. Also, when are you going to take care of the waste int the ocean, and you have all your demands for residential, commercial, and industry maxed out.
Watch the video 😉
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines I have
I’m a truck driver and after watching you for a while. When I enter a busy intersection I use the term horky Borky a lot
Hey man, why dont you ever use the multiplatform metro stations? They are pretty useful saving a little space and they are also more realistic i feel than normal 1 awning stations
Maybe an expressway bypassing the whole city so the people going through don't clog up the junctions.
22:55 I actually silently farted exactly at this time. Exactly as Biffa made farting noises. I was like "OMG THAT WAS TOO LOUD"
gross
with all those multiple route metro stations is it worth finding some metro stations with four or more platforms on the workshop to try and keep each line separate whilst still maintaining interchange within the one station?
Ultimately, each had their own place in a city, a place where they could each shine and show off their unique talents
So that was it. Roundabouts and timed traffic lights were both here to stay...
Or where they...?
