  • Baking soda is a very important product to have in our food storage. It has hundreds of uses from deodorizing, to cleaning, to freshening clothes in the washing machine, and also many food-related uses. It is fairly inexpensive and can be purchased in large quantities. If you have not yet added it to your food storage, now is the time.

I always heard that baking soda removes enamel from teeth, so you should only use it occasionally to help whiten, but then I heard an actress mention that her father, who is a dentist, made her brush her teeth with baking soda, and she never had cavities. So I've brushed with nothing but baking soda for over a year, and not only do I still have all my enamel, I no longer have any of the problems with my teeth that I was having. Apparently baking soda balances the PH in the mouth which helps eliminate the bacteria that cause cavities and gum issues. Guess we weren't supposed to know that.

My childhood dentist did used to use a pressurized jet of water and baking soda for our cleanings (and it stung like having a mouthful of bees) but I think, as with everything else, the effects vary from person to person. If I brush with baking soda more than a couple of days in a row it makes my teeth hurt, no matter how sparing or gentle I am with it.

Here is another fun use for baking soda: Next time you have a clogged drain, instead of reaching for a caustic drain opener, grab your baking soda and vinegar. Dump about a quarter cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a cup of vinegar. Watch the bubbling action bring up the clog! Let it work for about an hour, then pour several gallons of boiling water down the drain. This nearly always works to completely unclog the drain.

    • @pubcollize

Make a mixture of two or three tablespoons of baking soda, a teaspoon or so of dawn, and drizzle in peroxide until it creates a nice foamy paste. That mixture will clean almost anything! I use it the most on laundry that has stains. But it works on stove tops, sinks, countertops, showers, and just about everything else. I even took sharpie marks out of a fabric seat cushion with that stuff. I just have to use an old toothbrush, and I can get just about anything clean with that mixture. Give it a try!

I've recently used a mixture of two tablespoons of rubbing alcohol, 1 teaspoon of dawn soap and one cup of warm water to spot clean some very nasty tar like stains from my beige carpet. My husband obviously tracked something yucky in on his workboots. I thought the stains were hopeless due to the tar like consistency. I lightly sprayed the mixture on the stain and immediately vacuumed it up with my wet/dry vac since the alcohol isn't good for the carpet. No more stains in my living room. It's amazing what we can do with such simple inexpensive products. And it's fairly easy to spend over $100.00 each month buying commercial cleaners. My new favorite thing is actually Murphy's oil soap. It cleans walls and doors like a champ!!! My husband suggested it and I've been quite impressed with all it is useful for.

This makes it easy to shake the baking soda where you need it for cleaning. You could also use an empty spice container. The key is to use a dispenser with small round holes!🧂I just refill the dispenser from the large bag as needed.

Cancer cells love sugar, so after watching another video, everyday I would fix for my sister and myself a cup of water (room temperature) a teaspoon of baking soda with a little sweet syrup. If the cancer wanted the sugar it was going to have to take the sodium in with it, cancer does not like sodium--does it work and does it work on all types --don't know but what I do know is the doctors ask what we were doing and they said whatever it is keep doing it.

I am sure, you could have given us a list of 500 things you can use baking soda for, but just in case someone isn’t aware, I will share a few of my favorite uses.
When making fresh tomato soup, I put just a scant pinch of b soda in to help cut a bit of the acid
If I burn something in a pot or pan, I rinse out, drizzle some Dawn, then add baking soda and make a paste. I let it sit, minutes, or hours, depending how bad it burned. I then add some water, maybe 1/2cup for a small pan, and I let it boil- but watch it closely, because it will foam up as it boils. After a few mins, I take a pad and scrub the pot. It will look like new. If it did not, repeat, and maybe let the paste sit overnight. I have never had this fail !
If you have something (such as a flashlight or radio, or anything that uses batteries), and the batteries corroded, throw away the batteries, then simply brush off as much of the acid as you can (be careful of your eyes). Then make a paste of b soda and water. Using a Qtip, or old toothbrush, and gently scrub, until the corrosion is removed. This can also be used on your car’s battery.

  • @Lou.B

Here is ANOTHER use, learned from an Italian cook!
Instead of adding sugar to your marinara sauce to cut the acidity of the tomatoes, add a couple of pinches of baking soda! Then stir it through and you'll see the sauce start to foam for a bit, and the result is a mellower sauce where the subtle flavors can come through!

Suggestion on the floor. Warm or hot water might open the stone and make it more receptive to cleaning agents. Being in the shower the stone was likely sealed but I suppose sealants eventually wear away. I once did everything to clean the limestone around a fireplace. I had a floor steamer with a hand steamer attachment ($50 or so at Lowes) When I steamed the stone, the black smoke residue was released. It ran down the white limestone like mascara runs down a crying woman's face. It was amazing. The unexpected result was the faint smell of smoke that always lingered in that living room was completely gone. The stone looked beautiful; I'd never realized how dirty it really was.

One of my favorite uses for baking soda is as a body deodorant. Cheap and effective! I only need to use every other day or so since it is such a powerful deodorizer. It can also cause the area to become over alkaline, which causes redness and pain. Then you need to apply a toner and stop usage for a few days til it heals. But I love the fact that this prevents cancer growth since it prevents an acidic environment, plus stops the usage of chemical aluminum-laden store-bought deodorants and antiperspirants.
It's also great as a bath additive (preventing an acidic environment), an antacid, and for occasional teeth whitening and cleaning (too often breaks down tooth enamel.)

I speak from experience when dealing with shower tiles... I cleaned truck stop showers...😬👀
You'll need to let just the vinegar soak into the grime to soften it up. Then try the combo dd/vinegar and soda combo and scrub but don't rinse right away. Let it sit at least 10 minutes, reapply, scrub then rinse. You may see better results without too much elbow grease.
Alternative is not nontoxic; but it will 100% work. Dollar stores carry the product Awesome, it's yellow in color and some have bleach (I don't bother with the bleach additive one) You'll need ventilation if sensitive to fumes (I personally don't have an aversion to it but it can depend on room size and what Awesome will be mixing with... Soap scum/dirt I don't notice a smell. Urine with past cleaners or urinal mints it can get smelly.) You spray it on and let sit 15 minutes, reapply at least 3 times before scrubbing and rinsing. You'll swear you remodeled. Thank you for the vid!

I put baking soda in a jar with a shaker lid and add some essential oil. Sprinkle it on carpet and grind it in before vacuuming.

Watching this video got me thinking why not add lemon powder as an acid either alone or with cream of tarter for double acting? Love all your videos. Thank you. You are an inspiration.

Great demonstration and awareness brought today. Thank you.
I try to use all natural cleaners, so I am a fan of baking soda and vinegar. I have out on my counter right now to make some aromatic shower melts with baking soda, a bit of citric acid, witch hazel and essential oils.
My appliance repairman who is well seasoned said those who use vinegar as a rinse aid in dishwashers and washing machines will find their rubber seals breaking down from vinegar. So I'm leary of vinegar in those uses, but love it for other uses.
I do try to use all natural cleaners but sometimes what works and is most convenient is what I've gone to. I use my not so natural dawn dish soap for so many things. I was taught to heat my 2 c vinegar before adding it to my 1.5 cups dish soap sprayer. But yours looks just great! I love it for shower cleaning, grills, shirt collars and when I'm not filling my sink with dishwater, I spray it on my pot. Anything I can rinse well after spraying it.
Hygiene and cleaning can not be overlooked in our preparations. Thanks!

They used it on our bee stings or mosquito bites too, I'm your age Rose :) I've used it in my Swimming Pool also. Rose I pour straight Baking Soda down My Drain Then ADD Vinegar to it and you can hear it bubbling CLEANSING the GOO inside the PIPES, all those oils and such that cling to the inside, I do it with all my sinks, Tub, and Toilet. I allow 30 minutes or so to give it a chance to go through the whole piping system before I run my faucet or flush the toilet. Vinegar also helps to break down micro-organism in my septic tank which helps in how often I need to pump it out. The drain field/Leach bed is also safer without so many harsh chemicals being placed into the environment & water supply.

Great video Pam. I also love the many uses of baking soda. Wish I could find big bags like that here. It’s also great for putting out fires. Since we heat with wood, we also have baking soda by our wood furnace. Thank you for talking about this valuable product

Baking soda is great for an upset stomach. Better than pepto . A teaspoon in a glass of water does wonders.

Thank you so much! I love your videos. Also, try equal parts of Dawn with (hot) white vinegar and baking soda on grout. On the grout, you put down the Dawn / vinegar mix and then the baking soda (for abrasion). Let sit for 15 - 25 minutes, depending on how bad it is., and use your grout scrubber. I sometimes use a toothbrush, though. Use the same Dawn / vinegar mix on glass shower stalls to cut soap scum. Let sit for around 15 minutes before wiping and it's a huge difference.

"Reveal" is a battery operated scrubber a little larger than a toothbrush but the brush is round and it rotates. it works great on grout! cleans so fast!

Thanks for sharing this information. I also use Baking Soda and water for a severe case of heart burn. It is much quicker than the pills or even Tums. (a heaping teaspoon in a half a glass of warm water and stir. Drink it all down.)
