It was great to have Darren 'Kolchak" McGavin on the panel. Leland Shaffer played for the NY Giants in the 1930's and 40's. He was raised in... Dodge City. R.I.P. Betty White. No salute from Bud again when introduced. Thanks for the video.
He called the Magnum 357 the "375"!! ...he probably would get his son an air rifle for Xmas instead of a real gun. Gavin said he collects guns too (!!!)
there is a rare outtake never seen......at one point Sue Ann Nivens flirts with Johnny Carson and Carl Kolchak accuses her as a witch and proceeds to drown her
As it turns out Bud's comment about traffic accidents is very appropriate, as one of TTTT favorite panelists just died recently from a traffic accident. RIP Orson Bean
25:35: I’m a bit surprised by the plug for seat belts, in 1961. A few years earlier, in 1956, Ford had tried promoting lap belts as a $16 option as part of their “Operation Lifeguard”safety blitz, but they dropped the campaign after their marketing people discovered that the belts scared buyers away, implying that FoMoCo brands were unsafe. Belt installation in new vehicles didn’t become mandatory in the US under Federal law until 1968; and a legal requirement to use them came along, state by state, much later, beginning with New York State in 1984.
I'll bet there was more crime when this guy was marshal of Dodge then when Earp was marshal. Just think, this was filmed only 32 years after Wyatt Earp's death.
I don’t know why Darren McGavin expected a police officer to know why .45 caliber handguns were developed and actually has the arrogance to accuse him of not being a real officer. What’s funny is that he claimed to be a gun collector and obviously considered himself to be an expert, but when he asked a question about .357’s, he said .375. Haha. I wish the Marshall had corrected him; that’d been a terrific poetic justice moment.
The real Indrani was truly *lovely*! I also would have voted for her because of her height, which I think might have been a factor in performing traditional Indian dances.
Round 2, contestant #2 said he's from Santa Fe and is in the AF. I don't think there was ever an AFB in Santa Fe. The ones I know of are in Alamogorda and Clovis, NM.
Being from Santa Fe doesn't necessarily mean he is stationed there. He could be up one state north at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Colorado has Air Force bases all over the state.
Gravydog316 Actually it would be true during this era. Foreigners were not as catered to in those days as they are now. So yea if you didn't know english, or hard to understand you would have issues with your Professors for sure. Especially if they were white.

And today the government morons frown upon hormones for men and women while still selling tobacco products openly. Which is one of many reasons i ignore everything they say.
Betty had the most beautiful smile. Always enjoyed watching her.
Thank you for all the great shows!

I love that look on McGavin's face when asked about owning guns! Very softly with a smirk: yeah..yeah...I have a few hand guns...yeah...
Darren McGavin....the dad from the Christmas story movie!...love it!...thanks for posting as always these episodes are truly enjoyed!

This is gold. Thanks for posting.
Remember when Johnny and Betty later played Tarzan and Jane on the Tonight Show?
"Good night and God bless you". Don't hear that on television these days.
😮💨
anytime the Great Carnak, Sue Ann Nivens and Carl Kolchak are on the same panel...damn that's amazing
Ralphy's dad of "A Christmas Story" fame!
And the host is the radio voice of Superman!
How’s Chester? 😂 Johnny Carson was such a card. I miss him and enjoy watching his clips on YT.
Yep. Johnny was the best! 😝♥️
My dad's name was Joseph Anthony. RIP.
Liked Darren McGavin in everything I saw him in, very likable actor.
Always loved Johnny's quick wit on this show!
He was rude to the Indian ladies
Sad that only the magnificent Betty White is still around but then, that's one of thecmany reasons she was so great!
I love seeing Betty White in the panel. This panel is my fav.
It was a great panel. Any time Orson Bean and Peggy Cass are not on the panel is good.
"Every 14 minutes, someone dies in a traffic accident. Now... go smoke your carton of Salems!"
I bet if Betty White knew that she’d still be alive in 2021, she’d really have a good laugh. 😝
I think McGavin was talking about the '45 automatic being invented for use in the jungles of the Philippines... I think.
Betty's necklace looked like two feet.
Kitty Carlisle's husband, Moss Hart, died a few days before this broadcast.
Dec. 20, 1961 to be precise. Kitty would not return to the show until April 2, 1962
ccbsnyc The death of Moss Hart, Kitty's husband, must have been a terrible shock to her and her children!

My grampa bought a new car back then, & still talks about how they forgot to charge him extra for the seatbelts haha
Brought to you this week by Salem Cigarettes!
I'll bet there was more crime when this guy was marshal of Dodge then when Earp was marshal. Just think, this was filmed only 32 years after Wyatt Earp's death.
I thought the number three marshall guy was the true one also, because he seemed quick and sure with his answers👏
great story.

McGavin was correct sir
It sure is great that the contestant are each given a carton of Salem cigarettes.
The real Indrani was truly *lovely*! I also would have voted for her because of her height, which I think might have been a factor in performing traditional Indian dances.
Today, Frumpe and his crazy right wing followers would have chased her out of the country...If she could have gotten in that is!
@@felixmadison5736 You assume too many facts not in evidence. Quit watching left wing news networks. You might learn something about true patriotism.
Round 2, contestant #2 said he's from Santa Fe and is in the AF. I don't think there was ever an AFB in Santa Fe. The ones I know of are in Alamogorda and Clovis, NM.
On this, and other games shows, people don't always work where they are from.
Being from Santa Fe doesn't necessarily mean he is stationed there. He could be up one state north at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Colorado has Air Force bases all over the state.
Being from somewhere doesn't mean you live there now
Kirtland AFB is located in Albuquerque
I was just about to turn 13 years-young on January 17, 1962, and we used to say: "If you can't smoke 'em, SALEM'.
Man #3 in Game #1
Man #3 in Game #2
Lady #3 in Game #3
Hello out there! Can anyone tell me: with Joe Anthony, what was contestant two's answer about his work?
Whatever he said got some good laffs!
He was a waiter at (sounded like) Ruby Fuenta.
Yes, I had a hard time with that too, so I replayed it a few times, and he was a waiter at (I think) Ruby Fuenta.
@@rmelin13231 Thanks.
(I used to know a restaurant years ago in Montreal called Ruby Foo's.)
Guess it was an "in joke".
First game: I knew it was #3 just by the way he said his name. Turns out it was #3 in all three of them.
retrorex thanks for spoiling it for the rest of us
Your welcome! Remember to NEVER read the replies BEFORE you watch the show!
Cool
I knew it was 1 or 3. Because they said he was college educated in america. So his english HAD to be good.
not necessarily
Gravydog316 Actually it would be true during this era. Foreigners were not as catered to in those days as they are now. So yea if you didn't know english, or hard to understand you would have issues with your Professors for sure. Especially if they were white.
Marish Long
yeah, thats true. 99% of teachers now are foreigners lol
Bumpuses!!! Amazingly prescient to have Darren McGavin on the panel for the show that aired on Christmas. But who was watching TTTT on Christmas Day?
I thought the same, until I considered that it would have brought a few smiles to a lonely person without family or friends.
You'll have to excuse Lois. She often writes (comments) before she thinks things through.

Bye Darren lol
All Asians look alike ha!
Haven't grown up yet, have you?
Funny talking about traffic accidents and they advertise cigarettes
And today the government morons frown upon hormones for men and women while still selling tobacco products openly. Which is one of many reasons i ignore everything they say.
Cigarette companies regularly sponsored tv shows in the 50's and 60's.
Oh Great, give them a CARTON OF CIGARETTES. And it's good to see someone from Hollywood collecting GUNS.
Darren should've asked about BB guns
10:16-- welcome to America! ...have a case of cigarettes!
Only a carton.
